Sorry, but none of this milk-addled, vegetable-fat bloated sugary nonsense for me...

Dark chocolate, thanks. Hold the nuts, beans, fruit, and other related bits... Lindt, Green & Blacks, anything Belgian etc.

Real chocolate. Don't mind if I do... cheers.

I loved how the EU tried to make UK chocolate manufacturers stop calling their products chocolate and rename it:

Chocolate flavoured vegelate.

Mmmmm, sounds good!

I have the good luck to be living in France right now, so finding chocolate is no problem.

'Mass produced' = Valhrona -> by far the best, used by all the best pastry chefs

'Mall chocolatier' = Jeff de Bruges -> awesome Belgian chocolate, not a local mom n' pop chocolatier, but very good (and pricey).

'Around the corner' = Chocolaterie/patisserie/viennoiserie down the street from my apartment, makes the best truffles I've found.

I'm always on the lookout for more chocolate.

I'm a vanilla man, myself, never been too wild about chocolate. Dark chocolate is just plain nasty.

I'm partial to peanut butter chocolate. Call me cheap, but Reeces are the best chocolate candies in my opinion :).

Well, if not, Click Here.

No, not joking! Wonder if it's one of those things that's never made it over here. You can invite me over next time you're going to make some and I'll try one. :)

I'm sure it isn't the best, but GHIRARDELLI is my favorite American chocolate.

Agreed. It's not the best chocolate but it's the best mass-produced American chocolate that I've tried. Hershey's is 'ashy' in the mouth with a horrid texture.

White chocoloate doesn't deserve the name. I like chocolate with a high % of cocoa solids like Green & Blacks, 85% Lindts etc. There's a fabulous chocolate shop on Kings Road called Roccoco which make amazing bars - some are flavoured with cardomon, lavender etc. Sound foul... and admittedly some are, but others are gorgeous! ;)

I've just read through this thread and can feel the lure, unfortunately I'm trying to loose weight so I'm off the chocolate right now.

I don't think I have a favourite chocolate but a (non-complete) list of stuff I love would include;

Kinder Bueno
Cadbury's Dairy Milk (all varieties)
Cadbury's Mini Eggs (in my top 10)
Cadbury's Dipped Flake
Cadbury's Buttons
Mars' Galaxy
Mars' Galaxy Minstrels
Mars' Maltezers
Mars' Twix
Cadbury's Green & Blacks
Lindt
Milka
Hersheys Cookies & Cream
Nestle's Milky Bar
Nestle's Caramac
Nestle's Kit-Kat
Nestle's Munchies

best chocolates

i. koko black (only melbourne people REALLY understand this one- there has never been a chocolate shop like it)

[ daylight ]

ii. chocolateir (from my home suburb of ivanhoe)

[ now onto the generics ]

iii. lindt is pretty damn good

iv. terry's chocolate orange

v. cadbury snack

vi. anything else from cadbury

vii. perfection chocolates from my quasi-home in rose bay, sydney

I agree with you on the Roccoco ones - I got bars of Lime & Basil, Salt, and Black Pepper for Christmas. I thought my Dad had finally flipped but they were pretty good.
Lindt 85% for me. Strong and dark. Mmmmm.
I also use it to make Chocolate Caramel Squares. Pastry base, Dulce de leche and then dark chocolate on top. Every man should have at least one good chocolate recipe in them, and that's mine.
And brownies from Flour Power City at Borough market.

The cocoa butter in chocolate is a saturated fat. According to recent studies the body is able to turn the cocoa butter fat into monounsaturated fat in a process similar to pressing olive oil. According to Dr. Andrew Weil chocolate appears to be neutral in regard to cardiovascular health and may actually lower serum cholesterol. In addition it contains strong antioxidant activity, equivalent to that of red wine and green tea.

Dr. David Katz, a nutrition expert with the Yale School of Medicine agrees with Dr. Weil. "There are some unique health benefits in chocolate," said Katz. “These include an array of antioxidants that have been shown to give some protection against cancer. In fact, cocoa has more flavanoids — an important antioxidant — than green tea. It's probably the richest source of flavanoids in our diet," he said.

So they may not be too good for your diet, but heck! Reserve a small chunk of very good chocolate as a reward for your good eaing habits. It won't hurt. :D

I absolutely love the Cadburry mini eggs that come out at Easter time. I don't know what it is, but my mouth just starts drooling every time I think about them. I'm SO looking forward to going shopping the day after Easter when I can get big bags of them for like $.20.

That, and Cadburry Flakes, Cadburry Dairy bars, Cadburry eggs. Hmm... just love Cadburry.

And Ritter Sport, Toblerone, Lindt.

They had a thing on the Food Network a long time ago on different types of chocolate. One of the segments talked about a company in Wisconsin called Swiss Colony. I've been meaning to try them out.

okay okay maybe hershey's are good for smores :) but I just dont like the plain taste to it. I'm more into chocolate that melts in your mouth and Hershey doesnt really do that for me.

I will give you this one jakochampolska- Hershey's chocolate is great for smores. Yum! :D

British chocolate kicks ass.... much more cocoa, less waxy and pure HEAVEN.... especially anything made by cadbury, their flakes rock my tartan-coloured boxer shorts. milka is good for big binge-sessions, but cadbury really is the king of the choccie world.

its all in the snap and thud

i do on the whole agree with you fairy lights. You can always tell the quality of chocolate by the sound that it makes when you break it, cadbury has that lovely 'thud' customary of cheaper chocolate, whereas brands such as lindt, Green & Blacks, and of course the produce of smaller belgian chocolatiers has more of a 'snap' sound when you break them.

For eating lots of chocolate, it'd have to be cadbury's, although i am more of a smarties or buttons person rather than a flake (big kid i know)

dog chocolates in the UK tast better than Hershleys!!

Galaxy all the way, if you cant get your hands on some 'green and blacks'.

Cadburys have bought Green & Blacks so it'll be more widely available in future I guess.

:( No eggs yet... but Nutella can be found all over! I know Cost Plus has it, wouldn't be surprised if Trader Joe's does... I think I may have even seen it in a Safeway.

TJ stopped carrying Nutella, but has their own chocolate hazelnut spread. I still prefer Nutella.

You want me to check on the eggs? I'm sure they'd survive the trip for SB to the bay area...

 I would love them!!!!

Seriously, the last time I had one was in 1994. I was in France, and they had a series of toys called, Les Petits Pingos-- ten different figurines of penguins... I collected all but one. (It took an obscene number of eggs!)

Okay, now that's some good ****. Its good on just about anything you would otherwise spread butter (or peanut butter) on, not to mention that its yummy when just eaten out of the can.

*starts drooling*
