I think lets just wait what apple will do. This thread won't do anything.

Evidence suggests that you're wrong about that. In the past, Apple has shown that it is very receptive to feedback from users.

Video recording, smudge resistant coating, and several other features were heavily requested by iPhone users and then made their way into the 3GS.

So I think threads like this DO make an impact. They tell apple what it's userbase/fans would like to see, and then Apple often works to make it happen.

I doubt they change the screen size aren't most apps in the appstore developed with the current screen size specs? all of those developers would have to tweak their apps and put out updates, I don't really see apple putting so many people through that for an inch more in screen size.

I "think" that Apple has been advising developers to make their apps "resolution independent" for some time now, so that they can scale up (or down) depending on device screen size. In fact, I think it was this announcement by Apple that first fueled some of the rumors that an "iPhone Lite/Nano" might have been coming earlier this year.

That isn't a problem now a days, at least it isn't if they handle it right.

I think that the next update will be so drastic, that the 3G might not be able to handle it.

The reason I think it'll be so significant is because, frankly, the current iPhone OS is getting a bit old.

Really? I think it is perfect right now. Easy and simple to use. The only major UI change I can see happening is the addition of a file hierarchy of some sorts.

I hope they will release 4.0 pre-release in march or even now cos I just lost my iphone due to no wi-fi grey issue and in the UK my iphone is an ipod

I've added a rumor list at the bottom of my first post. This rumor list is meant to give some kind of indication what you can expect.

Yes, it are still rumors but if the 'big guys' report these kind of things than it's more likely to come (like a 64 GB NAND-flash chip from Toshiba).

It could be I missed out some things in this list, if so, please post it over here (also post a url to the article with that specific rumor).

I hope it isn't, and I think it is unreasonable to expect the new OS to work with a two generation old device. I have no desire for Apple to cripple the operating system so that it will work with the antiquated hardware of the 3G.

Well you are aware that they could provide different builds depending on the hardware right? They've been doing this with OS X for sometime now.

Such a device, like the iPhone, has a life span from at least 2 or 3 years. The iPhone 3G is still being sold so no worries: firmware updates will be released.

This isn't feedback from users. If you want to provide feedback to Apple, you need to do it on the Apple website, not here.

Why is lower capacity equated with 'low-quality'? Is Apple going to have 8-year-old kids build it instead of the 12-year-olds?
Well, not low-quality but just like what they did with the iPod Touch.

The 8 GB is a lower end model, it doesn't have the graphic updates like the 32 and 64 GB iPod Touch (and iPhone 3Gs) got and some other features but it's cheaper.

Thanks for the assurances, I just hope that my friends iphones arent too good because they have att and I have t-mobile, so there available for upgrades, hope it aint too much. But I would laugh at them if it wasnt jailbreakable.

I'm worried that 4.0 won't be as snappy as 2.2.1.

It won't, so just upgrade.

nice aggie, cant wait for him to finally see it and respond

NOTHING will EVER be as good as 2.2.1 on the 3g. I don't know why you people can't get that through your heads! :p

You guys are hilarious!

Anyways… if 4.0 is compatible with the iPhone 3G then there is NO reason that it won't be compatible with the original iPhone since they're running the same processor speed and memory configurations.

Yes, 3.0 was available for the first gen iPhone but never before have there been two VERY different hardware configurations for the iPhone. The iPhone 3GS is 600MHz with 256MB of RAM and a better video chip… they can do so much more with the iPhone 3GS than the iPhone 3G. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple took advantage of all that power.

By the way. I'm still loving my 2.2.1! Nothing beats it in speed and reliability. My brother restarts his iPhone every few days… I never need to restart mine. Hah!

What are you expecting/hoping for?

720p Video Recording

5.0 Megapixel Camera with Flash and a much much bigger lens so that it actually takes decent photos even in very low light situations

Backlit OLED Screen with 720 x 480 Resolution

Dual Core Snap Dragon 1.5 Ghz HD Capable Processor

4G Capable

Wifi N

Bluetooth 3.0

64 GB

1 Ghz of Ram

HD Antenna and TV Tuner (There are constantly hd tv signals being broadcast by ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox. Why not let us tap into those signals so that we can what hdtv on our phones wherever we are)

HD Radio Tuner & FM Transmitter

HDMI TV Out/Projector Out So We Can Run High Res Movies & Slideshows Stored on Our Phone on our HDTVs.

A Low Reflective Screen Mode For When You Wish To Read Ebooks On The iPhone

Not as much real estate wasted on the front of the phone as current iPhones (The black part on the top and bottom of the iphone need to be much smaller, basically, almost all of the front of the phone should be the screen) It's ugly how much space/real estate is wasted on the current design of the front of the iPhone

Front facing camera so that we could make videocalls, atleast while connected to Wifi N

iChat Support

Flash Support (I want to access hulu from my iphone damn it!)

RFID Chip & IR Chip (So that you can use it as a universal remote)

Removable/Replacable Battery

Over the air sync with Macs, Apple TV, PC Servers etc, so that we can stream HD Videos off of our PCs to our iPhones anytime we have WiFi Access, and Can Even Stream HD Content from Our Phones to our HDTVs

Louder Dual Speakers (I'm sick of accidently covering up the speaker while playing games)

A sexy looking gamepad addon that adds dual analog sticks and dual triggers to the iPhone so that gaming on the iPhone actually becomes FUN

Available for T-mobile, Sprint, Verizon & AT&T

If the iPhone 4G pulls this off, I could easily see it leaving Nokia, Blackberry, Andriod and every other Smartphone in the dust.

If you don't think this is going to happen, please tell me what specifically don't you think is going to happen.

Almost every feature listed above is a feature that another smartphone already offers or is scheduled to offer starting next year. So why won't a near future iPhone offer that same functionality?

Remember, Apple gets paid $700-$800 for each iPhone. ($200-$300 from the end user and another $500 from the carrier). Plus, Apple makes a boatload of money on Apps.

Every single feature above can easily be implemented into an $800 device by next summer.

jesus dude, just get a netbook.
