Software: The ability to have wishlists in the itunes app and app store (just like we can in itunes desktop version).

Higher-res screen, 480X320 is poor. However with Apple releasing this rumored tablet I'm not sure..

I guess we won't see multitasking, as the iPad didn't get that either. But maybe, in March with iPhone OS 4.0, they will announce it for both the iPad and the 3Gs or a new iPhone?

That's VERY likely. There is simply no way in HELL apple lets the iPhone not have it past June. Simply impossible.

Or possibly the iPhone would get more features to make people buy the phone, the phone will still be a revenue generator. Apple won't get the kick back from the mobile networks for Wifi iPads and I guess with cheap data plans for the pad the kick back will be minimum.

Aluminum uni-body design

It seems that the iPad has debunked the claim that the 3G antennas forced Apple to make the iPhone 3G/3GS out of plastic.

Considering that, what do you guys think the odds are that Apple goes to an aluminum uni-body design for the next iPhone?

Personally, I hope they do. My iPhone is cracked around the speakers, the plastic is pealing back (about an inch up the body) around the 30pin dock.

The 3G iPad has an ugly plastic cover on the back that even wraps around to the front. So therefore the iPad 3G is not all aluminum and glass.

I have the 3gs. For me to upgrade, I want 1ghz or better processor. I want 64 gig hard drive, better graphics, oled w/ backlit light. I want apps to be stackable like photos on the ipad. I want the a2dp to be fully functional. Both front and back cam would be great. to have a motion gesture would be nice via camera.

I've also got a 3Gs, and if they want me to upgrade it should be a really good one. Otherwise I'll definetly wait until 2011 for a new iPhone (or perhaps a new phone that doesn't exist yet 😛)

My phone started cracking about 7-8 months ago, but it never progressed any further. The only issue that has shown up since is the vibrate switch. When on vibrate, it seems intermittent and the phone might vibrate several times in my pocket when the phone senses it going in/out of vibrate mode on it's own. If it gets worse, I may see about getting it serviced.

I'm wondering whether one of the complaints about the iPad might actually be a good sign for multitasking support in OS 4.

Though you can make good arguments against multitasking on the phone, at least older models (you can make good arguments for it too!), you can make much better arguments for multitasking on a tablet format computer.

The fact that the prototypes ran 3.2 based OS rather than a 4 based OS might indicate that 4 has multitasking support, and Apple/Jobs didn't want to let it out of the bag this early. Let early models come out with 3.2, announce 4 in June, and let developers support it on both models.

those are some pretty hefty requests. 64GB? 1GHz? not sure how likely those are, or the front facing camera

64GB will be in there, sure. Better battery is like with every new product or revision. OLED... I don't think so. New design? Maybe a bit, but it will never change dramaticly.

Flash like in Safari? Let's hope so, but for now no. Flash (camera)? Maybe..

Thats the best list of improvements/wishlist that i have read.

They don't mention hardware, just how they want the original apps improved, so these can possibly addressed in a firmware update. I hope they do, good read.

(just seen they have 2 other letter/wishlists)

I would like to see them add the daily calendar look from the ipad. Thats looks great.

it would be nice if they upgraded the camera (w/flash) and bigger screen (amoled). also 64gbs, front facing camera, 1 ghz processor, and a new design... but that's wishful thinking =P

I’d like to see:

1. A “goto date...” function in the calendar.
2. Scroll down to bring in the search screen from anywhere on the springboard, and have sidewards scrolling cycle screens endlessly.
3. Ad blocking in safari.
4. Password protect the removal of apps so holding the home button brings up a password entry box...
5. A user folder that can be mounted on the desktop and shared by all the iphone apps (a la iPad?). This would make the search function more useful too.
6. More functions on the lock screen as previously mentioned.
7. Ability to select a 3d dock... maybe.
8. Folders on the springboard.
9. Splitting the ipod app into videos and music like on the ipod or at least an option for it.
10. Landscape home screen.
11. Rotation lock that applies to all apps.
12. Ability to make, name and delete playlists in iPod app.
13. The ability to delete songs / podcasts in the iPod app.
14. The weather app automatically detecting your location.
15. Not being thrown out of the app store when I download an app. Grr.
16. The ability to add folders to any email account in the email app and smart folders.
17. Notification of podcast updates and downloading them within the ipod app.

I also think IR in future models would be good but only if they included an app that worked as a multifunctional remote control.

This all seems great, but Apple is more concerned with creating something that even a child can understand. They frown on complications.
