An open market place. If we could have this (and not have the rediculous censoring of apps and limit to what core services the apps can have acess to) then we would not need any more of this damn threads.

You're not talking about an open marketplace, you're talking about removing the chmod jail and allowing private frameworks. Those are very different things.

I'd like to see calendar invites added on. I know it exists for those using with an exchange account, but the rest of us get nothing. I use mobileme to sync and I have to resort to using my mac to accept and or send invites. It's retarded. I should be able to do it from the phone.

Also, I'd like to have the ability to use more than one signature. I have my person and work email and would like to use 2 different signatures.

Multitasking.

Sure, running Pandora in the background. But also as a way to avoid staring at a loading screen. The majority of AT&T's network is Edge. Say I'm sending a reply in the facebook app. It can take a bit of time to finish the send. Well, during that time, my phone is completely locked into that process. I can't background that task and do something else on the phone. Instead, I have to wait out the slow process before I can do anything else.

Or, say I'm downloading a new track in Rockband. If I leave that download screen, the download stops. Well, background the process, send an SMS, and when I get back to the game, download done.

This whole waiting for software to finish a task, unable to do anything else during that time, is ridiculous.

unless it's in the apple logo, i would hate if it had a notification LED

yeah that would be really practical for all the people with cases, or when you have it face up on a desk.... i'd rather they backlit the little square outline in the home button. i think most people would like to look at the front of the device for a notification light rather than turning it round and looking at the back.

the big 2 for me are the lockscreen and discreet notifications. i hate the big bubbles when using the phone and you get a push or text, i also hate that i have to unlock my phone to check for unread emails. something like lockinfo would be great.

multitasking goes without saying, but i'm pretty sure that if we get it it'll be a feature limited to the new iphone, which would suck.

1. A lockscreen API similar to iGoogle, with starter gadgets for EMail, Push Notifications, Texts, Calendar, ToDo, Double-tap a gadget to go straight to that app without having to do an Unlock Swipe.

2. User-selectable backgrounding.

3. Bluetooth keyboard or VNC server.

I am pretty confident that task-switching could easily be implemented on the 3GS. There's enough memory.

Not so sure about the 2G phone.
The subscription model has ended for the 2G phone. Which means they are not really entitled to free functionality upgrades.

How about the ability to not drop a phone call that i'm on?

OR...

The ability to destroy a planet? I know it's insignificant next to the power of the force, but still.

I'm expecting everything anyone asks for on this list. After all, Steve called the forthcoming iPhone an A+ release and we all know how critical he can be. :D

Seriously:
  • 5MP/720p camera with flash
  • 1.3MP iChat camera with iChat and videocall app.
  • 16/32/64GB versions.
  • Same memory
  • Same cpu performance(lower battery utilisation)
  • Super AMOLED screen, same resolution
  • 40% greater battery life/double current standby time (if the iPad can do a month, i'm sure we can do this.)
  • Approved background apps
  • A whole world of file managing and sharing improvements.
  • iBook app with text to speech, page syncing with iPad & Mac.
  • spotlight search for settings/quickflip settings buttons on home screens.
  • Quick contact buttons on home screens, hold to choose between numbers/txt
  • Illuminated home button (not mine but i really really like it, just not trashy multicolour)
  • Touch panel extends to very edge to offer smudge free scrolling

That'd do me.

Edit note: The iPhone & iPhone 3G give developers a fairly standard (GPS withstanding) set of specs for Millions of potential customers. I think the 3GS & 3GS+++ will do the same. Means as a developer you can try for the greatest potential customer base and target the iPhone 2G and get everyone, or target the iPhone 3GS and get everyone who's bought a phone since July09.

Apple does listen to majority of it's customers. Just not the 5% gadget heads who roam the internet. :D

I don't get that, which ones are the ones that sends suggestions to Apple, it's not like Grammy Eliza, 87 is gonna email Apple about some feature that she's missing?

The techhead crowd is small but vocal, and they're making a whole lot of racket tright now about some features.

i know the droid has themes i would like that and since im the laziest person on earth say im listening to music and i get a text it reads it to me or even a voice control for asking the time (like i said im lazy)

you know i've been watching this thread for a few+ months now, I wonder how many redundant threads are "intertwined" in this thread... figure a new thread ON THIS TOPIC for the past 4 months..... at least 100?

cant wait for iPad & 4.0 are out so this will end...... yes then the "why didn't they add this and that" new threads will start every day.....

my wish

I wish for:
in Hardware
-better camera w/ flash. Camera in front will be nice but not if it takes away this one.
-better speakers
-if the technology is there, get ride of the glass or optional Matt screen
I'm not too picky, I'm happy with my 3GS

Software:
-I hate the black background. so ability to change the background (wallpaper isn't enough) w/o hacking
-Flash PLEASE!!! that would rock my world!
-oh I love how HTC weather thing is. Weather is on the front screen and its animated.

That's all I can think about it.

I'd love slightly better battery life. Playing a few games on the iPhone can seriously kill the battery.

But most of all, PLEASE a higher resolution screen. After using a DROID or Windows Mobile Phone Series 7 phone, the resolution lack on the iPhone is so glaringly obvious.

you know what would be amazing?

tappin the wifi button and getttin a drop down menu of some sort where u can turn it on/off...its useful when you're at work and have restricted access to websites so you want to switch to 3G to go on facebook or something. also...more sensible power saving settings (i.e. having different profiles which have different processor speeds, backlight, 3G etc.) a bit like a laptop. Rather than having to turn them off/adjust them one by one to make your battery last an extra 30 mins.

silent mode mechanism needs to be changed because after a while it gets worn out and it flips in ur pocket as you move around...and pls get some sorta protective layer on the apple logo...its the only bit of the phone that actually shows wear/tear

p.s. love the LED idea on the home button...that wud look cool. maybe have the little square thing light up...

yeah that would be really practical for all the people with cases.

you are mostly right, but there are some cases with a hole in the case where the apple logo is

and i don't even want a notification LED, but a light-up apple logo would be fun, like on a macbook

Problem with that is most people keep their phones...you know...with the back facing down :p

Notification light will do!

i have no doubt that the 3gs can multitask. it certainly handles the jailbreak way of multitasking without issue. i currently do this but would much rather the benefits of jailbreaking be available in a vanilla phone. what i mean is that i can honestly see apple restricting it to the new hardware, despite the 3gs being capable. they need something in the software that can only run on the new handset or people wil have less reason to run out and buy a new one.

not just the cases, but practicality. sure, some cases have holes in them, many do not. but it would not be practical to look at the back of the device for a notification. the glowing apple logo on a mbp is easy to implement, it's just clear plastic that picks up the light from the panel because it is purely a screen. not possibly on the iphone since it's internals are behind the screen. just like an imac does not have a glowing logo, same with the ipad. this why i'd like to see a brushed case with the black apple logo to match the imacs and ipad. i think it would look pretty nice.

I totally agree with you !! I would love to see the new iPhone look like the iPad, aluminium with black Apple logo to match up with the new iMac and iPad's :)

Im sure Jonny Ive would also approve of this :D

\Why? What's wrong with downloading the Facebook in combination with push notifications? One of the things that makes iPhone OS very good is its slim and sleek appearance. Facebook integration makes it more bloated.

Facebook functions as my address book/contacts. I’ve went through the trouble of reorganizing all my Facebook friends into lists. By integrating with Facebook, I would get up-to-date email addresses, street addresses and phone numbers for my friends and family constantly. This would be no different than Exchange or MobileMe contact syncing.

Palm’s WebOS and Google’s Android do this, and Microsoft has announced Windows Phone 7 Series will also do it.

I have no doubt if the engineers could get sufficient 3G performance with an aluminum case. It is pretty clear from the design of the iPad that Ives hasn't abandoned the minimalist aluminum look...he's just run up against technical limitations with the iPhone.

I would at a minimum like to be able to snooze a reminder for a specific period of time from the locked screen!

Yeah, that snooze thing is just retarded. Just believe Steve Jobs snoozes every 9 mins, doesn't mean the rest of the world have to follow...
