Yeah, that snooze thing is just retarded. Just believe Steve Jobs snoozes every 9 mins, doesn't mean the rest of the world have to follow...

 The industry standard for snooze alarms on alarm clocks has always 9 minutes. It has nothing to do with Steve Jobs.

Amazing this thread is still a live while it was opened in October '09. Well, hopefully this month we will know how iPhone OS 4.0 will look like and in a few more months the 4th generation iPhone.

Didn't know there was an "industry standard" for this. I thought Apple was trying to be different from the crowd. :p

In Android you're able to set the snooze duration. If anything it would be a minor software change, but could be extremely useful in application.

all we can do is wait unless any of u guys work at apple and will violate ur contract even if ur a russian spy wanting to steel the greatest technology ever. u can tell us its ok

A Better camera sensor so I can take better pictures with the MP it already has who cares if its a 12 MP camera if it takes crapy pictures what's the point.

Better call quality who knows if its even at&t's fault.

The ability for me to write *uck w/o spell check changing it to duck

A new design the current design is tired go back to aluminum.

I am praying AGAINST multitasking that will only slow the thing down to a crawl. I want to do one thing at a time please.
BUT I would like things to move faster. My 3G opens text and other apps like email very slowly.
I would like more customisation.
Get rid of the slide thing to get access to the phone. Better to press the Home button and then one big green "OPEN" button to get going. The slide thing is a pain in the ass especially when my other hand is busy writing or typing.
I would like to chose a larger font size.
I would like to have access to customisable icon sets
I would like it to take less than three seconds to open Settings or SMS apps.
I would like to be able to disable the landscape mode in Email and/or in SMS when I chose.
In the iPod app. I can scroll artists fine - but when I am in Podcasts the scrolling is always stuttering .... ALWAYS.
I would also like better phone sensitivity in weak coverage areas. I am plagued with loss of signal warnings since February.

I'd love to see some hardware updates that meet or exceed a Nexus One

  • Faster Processor
  • More Ram
  • Higher Res Screen
  • Something a little different looking (like how the iMac transformed over time)
  • Thinner maybe?
  • Camera(s) front/back
  • Better Battery

Software Upgrades would be great as well
  • Multitasking support
  • Something "new" in the UI (not sure what, but something a little different)
  • Something that allows you to access Settings quicker (like turning off wifi or bluetooth)

I think everything there except the better battery would cause a quicker battery drain. So in addition to the spec bump, I would hope that they allow VERY LIMITED multitasking. Instead of making the phone thinner, I hope they install a bigger battery. I think the number one issue people will have with the phone isn't "I wish it was smaller"; it's I wish it had a better battery.

I agree. I'd like to see those features only they were done right. And knowing Apple, they wont usually update something unless they are sure its the best way it can be done.

I just feel like with everyone out there doing higher res screens, faster processors, ram, Apple needs to make sure that the user experience on this next phone exceeds what's already out. They have a good lead right now, but if they go another year without anything real significant (like a 480x320 res screen) you're going to find more and more people buying those other phones.

I still think the iPhone is overall a better phone, but imo, if Apple wants to maintain their lead, they have to push the envelope as they usually do.

There are already threads of people saying how much they like there Nexus One over their iPhone. From Apples perspective its just a small wound right now, but I don't think they want to turn it into something bigger.

In addition to many of the things in the list, I would love to see the ability to use GPS to change the profile of the phone. For instance, I would like to be able to set up 3-4 different profiles (with different ring settings, wifi settings, etc.) When I would arrive at those places the GPS would recognize that I'm there because I tagged that area as being (insert place here) where I don't want the ringer to be on because it would be inappropriate, and I don't want wifi to be on because there is no network that I would use and I would rather save the power. Then when I leave that place the GPS would recognize that i did and change it to a "car" profile where the ringtone would tell me who's calling, and the ringer would be on. Then when I get home the profile would automatically change again so that the wifi was on and connected to my home network, my phone was on ring, and any other setting that I wanted to change would be done so.

This would allow a high level of personalization which the iPhone is really lacking at the moment, AND it's innovation, no other phone that I know of has the capability to do this. That's what made the original iPhone so popular in the beginning, it was something no one had seen before.

With microsoft bringing xbox live to windows phone 7 series would be nice if apple introduced some kind of universal gamer card system, could include most played music/tv/movies too perhaps :apple:

you're talking from 3g experience. the 3gs has no issues what so ever with the jailbreak method of multitasking.

Welcome Hardware Improvements:

1. Aluminum shell, but keep the same size and shape if possible.
2. Better camera.
3. Better battery (built-in of course.)

Welcome Software Improvements:

1. Sync tasks with Apple Mail tasks and iCal tasks.
2. Centralized place to go to see all recent notifications.
3. Swiping past the last page brings you back to the search screen.
4. Multi-tasking (just so everybody will quit complaining about the lack of it.)

:apple:

I am talking about the experience of using a 3G iPhone which is slow already.
Are you saying that an app running in the background, accessing the net will not slow it up further ?

So, what happened to the 4.0 event? Isn't it time we heard something, I do realize that the iPad and iPhone share the OS, but that shouldn't mean that all iPhone development should stop while they iron out bugs un the iPad.

My wishlist for 4.0

It's a wishlist, nothing more.

Hardware:
Better camera
Flash
Memory Card
Better Battery or the ability to change out batteries though I've got the Mophie Battery case and I'm very happy with it.

3rd party hardware -- Belkin, etc., need to hurry up on releasing things like the RF transmitters for car stereos for those of us who do not have the ability to connect our phones to our car stereos via aux cable or otherwise. I've seen just a couple truly compatible (read: listed on box as such) devices out there.

Software:
Along with the better camera, add camera controls (flash on or off, zoom, etc - nothing too fancy, after all, this is a phone with a camera added in not a camera with a phone added in lol)
Multi-tasking - yes, some already exists and it is very useful. I, as an example, have the MLB baseball app and i listen to a lot of baseball games. I would like the ability to, for lack of a better term, minimize the mlb app and keep the games on while doing other things on the iPhone. The same goes for replying to texts while in other apps. As far as the complaint about the phone becoming more sluggish with multi-tasking, my formerly jailbroken phone, with that ability, did not slow down to a noticeable level at all. My phone is a 3G not the 3gS
Ability to transfer data via bluetooth (admittedly, i don't use bluetooth that often but it would be nice to have the ability to do so)
5 items on the dock instead of 4 (i had my phone jailbroken for awhile -not anymore- and really loved that option)
Ability to open .ICS events natively especially when I'm traveling and my phone is the only option for email checking (i do not have an exchange account or mobileme)
Flash (yeah, i know, extremely unrealistic given Jobs' comments about Flash not terribly long ago)
An earlier post mentioned a drop-down on the home screen for wi-fi options, i.e, the same function available on the Mac desktop. that's a great idea.
Ability to change font types
Ability, in Safari, to set whether you want to open a link in same window or new page as default
Regarding the Landscape Keyboard - the ability to disable the auto-switch to landscape. My reasoning, I am not a two fingered typist on the iphone keyboard and prefer the portrait keyboard. Also, while in landscape, a much smaller version of the keyboard -- filling out any form gets a bit annoying w/ the landscaped keyboard taking over as much space as it does.
Someone on the first page mentions a customizable dictionary - yes, i agree. the basic customization that exists, i.e., not accepting suggested changes and therefore the word gets added to the native list, is too basic and there are words typed everyday that the phone does not recognize as valid. "Hell" becomes "he'll" "Ed" becomes "We" no matter how often I discard the change. Even the most basic spell checker on any computer allows you to add words to the dictionary.

There ya have it. To those who ask why I undid the jailbreak -- I really was not using a lot of the available apps and other such things available to a jailbroken phone so I didn't see the point in keeping it jailbroken.
