1) LED notification light built into the Home button. Makes sense, right? Lock the screen and the Home Button glows green for a message, blue for an email, red for push, etc. (RAINBOW for a call?! Hahaha)
2) Expose or some way of multitasking. Everybody keeps whining about this.
3) Thinner overall, but same basic design. Maybe a unibody plastic like the new White MacBook?

Yeah, just thought I'd share my "lightbulbs." And if it's already been discussed, I don't really care. :D Happy Thanksgiving!

1. Not a bad idea but it does seem a little tacky.

2. Shouldn't be dependant on hardware. This years' models should support multitasking with 256MB RAM. Jailbreak apps like multifl0w have proven it and it doesn't seem to be too taxing on the battery.

3. Doesn't really need to be any thinner. If it could be thinner I rather have them use the extra space for a higher capacity battery. The way the iPhone is designed it already feels slimmer in your hands than it actually is.

I'd be happy with a 64GB, camera flash, RFID chip and a higher quality video with 5MP camera.

I'm hoping for:

Upped processor, RAM, and graphics once again.
802.11n WiFi.
Larger capacity, most likely 32GB and 64GB (Possibly like a cost-effective 8GB one, old folks don't need 32GB).
Possibly an OLED screen, or at least one with better resolution.
5MP+ camera.
Better battery.
Some sort of native multitasking.
Redesigned UI.

Out of all of those, I see the processor/RAM/graphics, capacity, camera, battery, and redesigned UI being very likely (90%+). Most unlikely out of those is 802.11n WiFi honestly, I can see Apple doing an OLED iPhone especially with the rumored OLED iTablet.

Would you also like it to make you coffee in the morning, fill your car with gas, and make your bed???

I'm sure Apple will implement ALL those changes.

P.S. Good luck with the hardware spec boost - they ALREADY gave the 3GS a significant boost in processing power, they won't do it again for the next model.

exactly! all these 4G mock-ups of paper thin(exaggeration) Iphones are ridiculous when apple will obviously choose battery life over depth.

I honestly want it to come out a little somethin like this :D with a smaller home button and a big screen.

I don't think the hardware changes will be radical. And they kind of have a great advantage and a great drag at the same time in the uniform resolution from model to model. So don't expect the screen to get bigger anytime soon. And the famous grid isn't going anywhere either. Although, I'd love to be proven wrong.

However, the redesign is due, and below is my take on how it would look, baring in mind their current design language. I'm just interested in whether people think they'll do that, or will stick with the current design.

As everyone and their dog has a regular iPhone, I am hoping that a Pro version will be released alongside the next incarnation.

A mobile version of iWorks, dual LED flash camera, and stereo speakers would be good.

why does everyone want an LED notification light? I'm not buying a blackberry

however, the phone is in need of some hardware updates, like more RAM and such. flash (both kinds) would be nice. but the physical phone itself (body and design) is fine

Hey, hey, hey - watch it with the old folks comment. I resemble that remark. The longer you live, the more music you collect. The older you are, the more discretionary income you have for toys. I see the 8GB iPhone as the starter iPhone for people on a limited income.

I would like a 64 GB version iPhone with an even better processor and RAM. Customizable options without jail breaking.

The flashy light thing - just give me an option to turn it off.

+1 for the better battery, although I haven't had a problem with my current usage.

Camera - As long as it has the tiny lens, the megapixels won't really make a huge difference.

So you want the phone to have a screen that is worse on battery life when reading email and browsing the web? OLED screen use 3X the power as LCD for displaying white. Were you planning on going into a phone booth to see the screen on a sunny day outside? Oh, wait... most cities do not have phone booths outside anymore and that would defeat the purpose of having a cell phone.
OLED screens are practically worthless outside. They also will lose their blue colour pigment quickly when exposed to the sun resulting in a colour shift.

In a nutshell, OLED is overpriced crap and I cannot understand why everyone wants it. Use google and do some research for yourself. You do not have to take my word for it but it seems like you are all caught up on the tech hype over OLED.

I will never buy a portable OLED device as long at these problems exist with the technology.

to the people bashing the LED Notification Light:
there would probably be an option to turn it off, like on a Storm.
i would love having one under the home button, it would be incredibly useful and pretty.
however, for the people whining about it making the iPhone more "Blackberry", just turn it off, you know apple would include that option under the Notifications tab or something.

Not that I think there's not room for improvement, or a time to refresh a design, but isn't it possible the basic form and function is so good it doesn't need to be changed much? Sure I'd like a higher res screen, multi tasking, better camera with a flash, and who wouldn't want more speed/power and an alert led is nice, but frankly, to me, the only thing it really needs badly is a much better battery. Personally while the rest would be nice, the battery is all I'd actually need, as currently the phone does what I need it to and pretty well, just wish it could do it all day. :)

No we won't get multi task yet, thinner design = impossible because of chip sizes and lastly, no extra buttons, the current design is simple.

I don't see why there won't be any multitasking. The JB app multifl0w can operate as much as 12 apps at once on a 3GS. Battery life in a review said that it was still pretty good while there wasn't any noticeable lag. The 256MB RAM seems to be the main reason why it can handle so many apps at once.

The iPhone is the only smartphone that can't multitask. Sooner or later that has to come to an end and Android phones are starting to get better.

All of these are great. Personally I think at least:
  • 5MP+ Camera
  • 64GB Option
  • New Shell Design
  • Multitasking OS
  • Flash Support
  • Face Recognition

Are realistic, can't wait to see what they come out with. :D

Sadly I don't think a removable battery is coming any time soon. :(

I just want a few, mainly software related:

1. Be able to customize my home screens ala winter/summer board style. Even if it is the ability to put a picture on the background. I would be sooooo freaking happy.
2. Be able to mount the iPhone on other computers (both Mac and PC) to remove and add files as I see fit. I don't have wifi everywhere I go for transfering files. Carry a cord around with me, plug it into a computer the hard drive comes up.
2a. Along those lines, the ability to create folders (both on the screen and on the drive it self, if this makes sense) so I know where I am putting my files. Docs, Video's, Music, PDF's etc...
3. Short cut creation for items under the settings menu, IE wifi/airplane etc. Instead of having to drill down.
4. Multitask. 4-5 apps.
5. Native editing of word and excel docs. Let alone editing of pages/numbers etc.

I know I have more but I can't think of anymore.... :)

I've updated the first post and added some new 'wishes'. Let me know if I missed something out.

wrong. I got near everything I wanted for Christmas. my wishlist was just realistic. I didn't get the $50,000 car for my 16th birthday or Christmas, I got a used one but still a nice acura. I didn't ask for a PS3, Xbox 360, AND Wii. I knew (and know) what is logical and where to draw the line.

and finger scanner on a phone is too much. some things were fine, like the better camera and flash. but you need to know where to draw the line

It would be better if EITHER of you knew why a bio scanner built into the iPhone is something to avoid and protest like a government sponsored plague.

Clearly, the iPhones needs a higher resolution at fixed screen size, so that the human eye cannot notice a difference. We just like to know that the spec numbers are "better."

On similar thought, the new iPhone needs at least a new Core i7, never minding that it is a mobile device where more processing power translates to less battery life in most instances.

The camera should include an x-ray vision feature.

FM-radio is overrated. It is a standard feature on every other mp3-player now. The iPhone needs to distinguish itself from that, much like the Blackberries.

Maybe they could use bluetooth instead of wi-fi for all those things EVERY OTHER PHONE FOR YEARS has used bluetooth for and even allow you to do something as simple as exchanging files of ANY kind apart from protected m4v and m4a files via bluetooth. Not interested in Jailbreaking or work arounds myself.

1. Justify this please. Explain how we, as customers, have a need for this. (If you're explanation has the words "right" or "deserve" in it, don't bother).

2 & 2a. While this would have been convenient 5 years ago, it's long removed from being necessary. Sync your phone. People worked hard on that GUI.

3. Absolutely.

4. ROTFL. For what? The 4 - 5 screens you have going at once to see all this? Oh wait. Don't even get me started. The iPhone already multi-tasks in all ways reasonable/necessary. Music, E-mail, Web, Txt. In fact the whole suite of built in apps are programmed to handle this correctly. 3rd party crap simply can't, with exception of the important aspects (ie: Music ) Big deal. So you can't accidentally leave MyWeather's radar animation running while you go play Call of Duty. Oh no.

5. Apple has a small team working on iWork suite for the iPhone and they've been doing so since before the 1st gen was announced in 2007. When its done, and its a quality product, it will ship.

I'm not speaking for him, but for my self:

1) It's nice to make your phone more 'personal', not necessary, but it's for sure a nice addition.

2) No opinion

3) Nice addition just like with number 1.

4) I want multitasking yes. I know I want it now, and I also know that when it's there you won't use it that much. Even though that might be the case, it's still nice to have. Sometimes you just 'want' it (e.g. a radio app: it would be nice if this could run in the background). So in short: yes, people won't use it very often when it's finally there. Yes, I want it because even though you might use it only once a month it can still come out handy.

5) I want this feature to (and I probably won't use it much, but when I need it it will be there), and I don't know if it's true what you're saying so I don't really have an opinion about this.

FM-radio is overrated. It is a standard feature on every other mp3-player now. The iPhone needs to distinguish itself from that, much like the Blackberries.
That's the problem, every damn MP3 player has a FM radio except for this 'hightech "Phone, widescreen iPod & breakthrough internetdevice"'. What do you care? If you won't use it, so be it. Others might want this feature and if you hate it, than you should never launch it.

While I agree with some of your statements in your post, I severly disagree with this one. The iPhone first party apps for the most part do multitask but that is not enough. I wouldn't call 3rd party apps crap either. I would like to listen to Pandora while using the Tom Tom app. I would like to listen to my music library from Simplify Music and surf the web at the same time. I would like to reply to an SMS and not have to completely quit the app I'm using to do so. This list can go on for a long time.

Multitasking, whether you care or not, is important. Just like on the desktop.

Wow... Ok..

1) Why The F... do I have to justify this? Really. I want to be able to change the background picture... I am sorry, did I say every freaking customer wants this... Did you read the thread title.. WISHLIST!!! Good god. Maybe you should look at the jb threads and see how many people jb just so they can put a picture in the background. Because we never ever change the background on our home computers ever....

2) No **** really, how about my work doc's. Oh that is right, I can just email it every single time. Have you jailbroke your phone and used the folders option. If not, then please take the time to try and get back to me. Makes it a lot easier to find said docs if they are in a folder instead of searching an email. That is right you probably don't use folders on your computer either. You know to keep things organized.

3) -

4) Why, because I want to be able to have several apps running. Everytime I get a text message, or an email, I have to close down my current app, fire up text finish text, then fire up the app I just closed. Really sucks if this app is streaming, needs to buffer all over again etc... that is why.

5) Hence the reason again, Wishlist.... Just because they have said it,,,, well you know sort of like push notification that went away for a year or so....

:)
