Im not really responding to anyone in particular, but the list on the first post is looking really good.

I just wrote a blog post about what i think/hope will be in the new iPhone 4G and the new iPhone OS 4.0. Heres the Summary of all the features i talked about in my post, and their likelihood. For more analysis on each feature goto the actual blog post: http://blogs.windwardreports.com/adamm/2009/12/iphone-os-40-iphone-4g-rumors-wishlist.html

For Sure:

More memory
Better screen (maybe OLED)
New case design

Likely:

Flash Support
Better Lock screen (home screen)
Multi-tasking
Overhaul the Email App (Unified Inbox)
Front facing Camera

Maybe:

Application Sharing
File Management/Document Generation
Springboard Expose/Spaces

Unlikely:

Bigger Screen
Themes and Wallpapers for Springboard

After seeing the list thats going on here Ill probably write a new post talking about some of the things i left out.

a Iphone that comes with a App that teaches people how too SEARCH! about 50 people beat you to this topic!

Hey I got one....

An iphone that comes with an App that answers this questions: Am I an A**hole?

This made me laugh. I would bundle this app with one that removes the compulsion some people have to waste their own time reading things they know exasperate them - and subsequently causes them to suggest using the search button.

My wish list item, in addition to many of the great ideas listed here, is an integrated spell check app -- one that goes beyond the existing auto-correct capability.

My iphone wish list.

A software update could have
Flash support.
free find my phone support.
Wifi sharing.
I already have the next three through apps and jailbreak but native support would be nicer.
3 app multitask at least.
folder organization.
Download manager and file storage.

On the hardware end.
Forward facing camera for video conferencing.
better battery life.
RFID.
Bluetooth pocket keyboard.

Then I would not need a laptop if it had all of this.
This would turn my Jesus phone into a God phone.
You can do it :apple:

few features you missed off

Don't forget custom designed CPU Based on ARM architecture by Apples PA semi team. Probably be dual core possibly quad!!! as the design scales upto 16 cores.

Your right about the battery life but i think this will come more from power savings from new energy efficient CPU and OLED screen.

Would really like to see a Unibody Aluminium design like the new Imacs, also looks like new Iphone will have and RFID chip for mobile payments and other functions this can provide.

multi-tasking

i really want the ability to text while im in an app or on the internet so that i dont have to stop what im doing and so on. and adobe flash player or something of the sort. this doesnt have to be on the next iphone how about a new update!!

I would suggest that they make it out of a mimetic-adhesive poly-alloy and a nuclear power cell like the T-1000. Although I'm merely joking, imagine how cool that would be? Oh, and throw in one of the new organic 1TB microchips to make sure it has enough computing power. :D

How about that feature called staying connected to a call and not dropping due to horrid cellular service. ( Damn you AT&T... )

Good point about the cpu. After completing my list i realized that I sortof glossed over what the actual hardware would be. So im working on another post that talks about stuff like the cpu, and all the other ideas that ive now seen but didnt talk about.

If someone here knows alot the nitty gritty of the iphone hardware. If Apple enables multitasking, disregarding performance differences, would a dual core ARM cpu use less power than a single core cpu when running multiple apps ? What about flash ?

Does anyone know how a cellphone could potentially deal with flash, on the hardware side of things ? Do they make standalone chips that do just flash type processing ?

Dual cores should help improve battery life and Adobe is trying to work with hardware manufacturers to improve Flash performance. It doesn't really make a difference as Apple has taken a stand against Flash and I can't blame them. Flash runs like crap on the Mac and I wouldn't expect it to run much better on a cellphone.

Flash 10 works perfect on mobile phones, some say even better than on computers (so both PCs or Macs).

And if you think it's crap, than you should just turn it off (if it ever will be available).

Network Battery life has to be the most important next feature.

I was in Grand Cayman 3 weeks ago on wifi and skype only. The battery lasted 3 days. I talked for 45 minutes, emailed for 1 hour, and was on internet for 2 hours each day.

It reminded me of my last phone. Never had to worry you were going to run out of juice.

Screen size could be increased.

This gloss black and chrome has to end at some point.

If Apple is serious about the Japanese market, they may want to consider putting IR in the next model--for all the high-tech functions in Japanese phones, IR is one of the primary methods of trading info on Japanese phones.

-Physical buttons to adjust brightness like in MacBooks. Or maybe you could hold down the home button and the use the volume adjustment? Or maebe a two finger multitouch in the homescreen to adjust the brightness?

-Matte back, so I don't have to use a case anymore.

Do you mean the version of Flash that won't be around 'til next year and we don't know how it will perform? If you're talking about the current version of Flash for mobile phones then you don't know what you're talking about.

Yes Flash is garbage and I use Click2Flash to not have to deal with the crap unless necessary.

Check out the last video on Engadget's review of the HTC Hero when using Flash:

http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/23/htc-hero-review/

Following the video they said this:

"So Flash is kind of a big deal on new smartphones. The iPhone doesn't have it, the Pre doesn't have it, BlackBerry devices don't have it... but the Hero does. Unfortunately, in our testing, we found the inclusion actually hurts operation of the phone more than it helps. When browsing to a site heavy on Flash (there are many), the browser loading times were abysmal. Furthermore, trying to view videos in-window produced choppy, nearly unwatchable results. You may have a better experience with lighter kinds of content, but in our opinion the main reason to introduce Flash into a mobile environment is to allow for broader media viewing options, and in the current state of this Flash player, you're not really going to get much mileage out of it."

I'd like to know who it is that says that Flash performs better on a phone with a small fraction of the processing power of a desktop.

Yes, next years version.

Maybe you once want to search for "Palm Pre flash" on YouTube. It runs pretty smooth on that device.

It would be absolutely fantastic if all of those things from your list were added to the next iPhone... unfortunately, I am not very hopeful.

I've seen the demoes for 10.1 already and hopefully it does work well. What I do know is that I've seen these kind of demoes in the past and they never standup to real world usage.

I realize that Flash is in a lot of places but I personally hate it. I don't want a proprietary plugin controlling media on the Internet. What happens is that Flash may perform well on one platform and not on another (such as with the Mac). Adobe now has to program Flash for four desktop OS's (including Chrome) and six different mobile OS's. It only stands to reason that there will be severe performance inconsistencies.

Differing from others on this thread, Apple won't ever allow Flash on the iPhone so prepared to be disappointed. They have heavily pushed HTML5 & created HTTP live streaming which both work directly against Flash. They even blame Safari crashes on the Mac due to a "certain plugin". Apple believes that their best chance of being successful is utilizing open standards where all things are equal.
