I'm in agreement with those that have requested that the new OS give access to apps that can better manage the phone's settings, not unlike the "Airplane Mode"; Users should be able to create similar customizable presets for example:

Home Mode/Office Mode (Sets the appropriate 3g, WiFi, BT and call forwarding)

Car Bluetooth Mode (Turns off WiFi, BT On, Sets iPod to Car Playlist)

Add the ability to maintain different user screens for each Mode and that would be sweet.

The things i really want.
-Dramatically Improved Battery Life (Don't want or need removable)
-Beefed Up Processor 1HTz at least.
-Multi-App Running option (Like 3g or Push Notification it can be turned on or off depending on how much battery you willing to use)
-5MB Camera (don't really need flash also don't need a camera in the the front of the phone mainly because i would never use it.)
-Folders!! - I already have used all my pages on my 3G and can not install any more new apps without deleting some others. I am an app junkie so i would like to have folders so i can sort them all and be able to download more.
-32GB and 64GB hardrive (16GB 3GS becomes $99 dollar option)
-Touch sensitive areas on back of phone. (Can be turned on or disabled by App Developers) These touch sensitive could open a hole new box of possibilities for game developers. Drawback however is that cases for phone would have to allow these touch sensitive areas to be used with case on it. I don't think this feature will be in this version anyway maybe in 2011 or 2012.
-Ability to stream .flv files. (not likely to happen but i can dream).
-Should be able to stream .ogg files to help safari support html5.

Ehm, maybe something like this (it's already in the main post: touch-sensitive areas in the corners).

I really like the idea of adding, at minimum, 2 corners for gaming.

The other thing I've wished it had from day 1 is that LED lit home button indicator (as you posted) that would pulse like a sleeping Mac light but in different colors for mail, chat, call, etc.

This is currently on my wish list for iPhone OS 4.0

1. iChat for iPhone
- This app will work something like Blackberry Messenger; send messages to iPhone users without using SMS by using data packages. The ability to add and send messages to Blackberry users is a plus. Also, the ability to add and send messages to users whom are using MSN, AIM is also a big plus. However, the ability to add and send messages to Blackberry users is the main priority as this will have more corporate people convert to the iPhone platform. This app must be developed by Apple.

2. Multi-tasking
- There is a demand for multi-tasking. Almost all smart-phones are capable of this. Therefore, the iPhone needs to implement this in the next generation software. Once again this will have more corporate people convert to the iPhone paltform.

Aluminium unibody
LED Screen
1GHz CPU,512Ram
better battery
better speakers
Front facing camera, flash on the back
64GB, plus micro SD
FM radio

I'd love:
Landscape view lock (like in the kindle app)
Run AUDIO apps in the background (a good compromise for everybody)
Notes upgrade (Apple should just buy Awesome Notes, seriously)
Special screen for most used Apps (meh, I dunno)
Iphone themes

My list could be done before 4.0.

I think you're more likely to see some of the more popular things first, of course, but not many at that...

I'd like to see a longer battery and better graphics (A better OpenGL and new resolution?). Oh, and a 64 GB model (which I assume we're going to see, for obvious reasons. The upgrades seem to follow this trend.)

I'm not too picky with what I'd like to see. It makes it easier to accept the truth. :p

I wish it had a better battery
more megapixels
faster
a metalic backplate (plastic is so scratchy!)
maybe some sort of unibody? XD
Idk, apple always blows our mind

A lot of these ideas sound amazing. It would be nice to see apple implement all of these sweeping changes to make everyone happy. All I want is for apple not to leave out major features that "keep us wanting more." For example, when the 3G came out without the abiliity to record video, I look back at that and go why would apple do that, its so simple. I just dont want apple to leave out any features that cause my friends to go, "you don't have that, my 5 year old phone can do that..." I dont want apple to do anything of that sort.

1. New Silence button, i have a severe problem with this hitting things in my pocket and moving.

2. Wouldnt it be cool if that when the screen is off there isnt that ugly tannish color and its solid black, so that you cant tell where screen ends and plastic begins. An Aqua affect at unlock would make this wicked cool. (not at sacrifice of outside viewability or color quality

3. Landscape springboard

4. Folders

5. Ability to touch the bar on top (touch network to enable/disable 3g/ wifi. Touch battery to see battery info. Toggle bluetooth)

6. Thinner (No sacrifices)

7. unibody???

8. Ability to hide default apps (I did not buy a 3gs in anticipation for IP4G, but I think that having to look at the "compass" might be one of the most painful things for someone who just spend $1100 - 1200 on something) same with stocks

9. Better Maps app

P.S. Good luck with the hardware spec boost - they ALREADY gave the 3GS a significant boost in processing power, they won't do it again for the next model.

idk if someone has already said this but here it goes anyways...

pretty much every high end android phone that is rumored or being released is gonna have a snapdragon processor (1ghz) and by june of next year i guarantee almost all smart phones will have something equivalent. apple is gonna have to step the iphone WAY up if they hope to lead the industry for the whole next year unless there gonna up the iphone every 6 months or something. anyways, the Processor, ram, gpu, and hard drive will all be upgraded in the next iphone!

New iPhone Ideas (Christmas Update)

Any ideas for future versions of the iPhone?
I've attached my idea and interpretation for the iPhone Nano. Tell me what you think and if you have any ideas yourself.

The iPhone Nano is a must have. It should be cheaper, and it should outsale the iPhone easily. I know I would buy one. Definitely.
