Talked to 3 separate rogers CSR's (Live chat, In store, *611)

Told them I'm 2/3 done my contract and I'm buying an unlocked iPhone 5. Asked if I could just buy a nano-sim and use my new phone or are they restricting it just to contract iPhone 5's. They all said I could buy a nano-sim for $10 and be on my way with my new iPhone.

Chose wrong color - Toronto

I want to change. Anyone in the GTA feel like they want a 32gb black slate and ordered white grey?

I know there's a thread for regrets in color.

Still waiting for shipment here!

Preparing for Shipment
Not eligible to cancel or return Why?

Qty: 1
iPhone 5 32GB Black & Slate (GSM)
Delivers 9/21-9/25

I went to the Apple store today at Pacific Center and spoke to one of the specialists that does iPhone activations. He said I can pickup a nano SIM on Friday from them... no need to wait in line, just come in with proof of purchases or your new phone and they will give me a new SIM. Then (on Fido at least) you can just register the new SIM with your account online.

I bought 1 64GB black
And 1 64GB white at about 1:20am mountain time through the iPhone app. It was strange, I couldn't connect on my MacBook or to the app until I turned off wifi and went through Rogers 3G on my iPhone. Then it loaded instantly.

Currently preparing for shipment.

I want to avoid going to the apple store on friday... it'll be a zoo! I'd be willing to pay Robbers the $10+tax for the SIM to avoid this.

I just called up the local apple store to verify that I would be able to get a nano sim in store.

They said all I have to do is bring my invoice (which is what the online chat person also told me) and they will give one free of charge.
They won't have them before launch, but I could just go in store and pick one up and not have to wait in any crazy iPhone line as I won't be getting the phone it self.
Supposed to be a quick painless process................ Although this is the same store which damaged my imac, and has not been able to repair it in 2 months, so I take what they say for a grain of salt.

I'm still pissed that Rogers changed their upgrade policy to 30 months from 24 months for customers who signed contracts in 2010
-_-

yeah bugs me too, however the upgrade fee is now only 13 dollars per remaining month, used to be 15 or 20 depending on previous device type so that helps a little...

For those of you looking for a nano sim for their unlocked iPhone wireless wave in square one mississauga has plenty of them for the big three and fido that I know of. I just got mine for $10.

Wow. Your experience at the London, Ontario, Apple Store has been markedly different than mine. I've been happy with the service at that store every time.

For what it's worth...

Are contracts even worth it anymore? Rogers upped their upgrade terms to 30 months, don't really like that, I think 3 year terms are ridiculous and they give a 6 months earlier upgrade option to what use to be a full year, I justified it in the past as thinking its really just a 2 year with upgrading but that 6 months more kinda kills it for me. Might look at just buying and not being on the hook for a contract.

Hmm I'm starting to feel a tiny bit of doubt here, seems like tons of USA members are finding their iPhones via reference number on UPS, but despite ordering within the first minute of it being available, I can't find mine. It's still preparing for shipment...but the fact that it says Holiday Shipping makes me feel like there's some hope.

:D

@Rideherhard,

That's what I did this time around. My 3 year term on my iPhone 4 ends Sep 9 2013 and I've ordered the 5 unlocked, 1 more year and I'm FREEEE =)

I tried to go to apple.ca to buy, but store was down. But friend has he can see apple store from his computer.

So I used my iPhone Store App and buy it from my iPhone. Got email 1220 pst.

Then I clear all my cache and I was able to log into apple store again from my Macbook.

Status was changed to Prepare for shipment this morning but still says "Delivers 9/21-9/25 "

And i can’t find UPS or Fedex info using phone number reference method.

It seems like no Canadian are unable to located shipment using the reference method yet.

Chatted with Fido online tech...

1. You can get nano sim at any apple store on 21st
2. Buy it day 1 at any Fido retail location

Lets hope its that easy, still strange we order online and have to go out on Friday to get a sim from the Apple Store....

Might be fun to pass by the long line and walk in :)

I ordered using the "$50 deposit and your phone is guaranteed on launch" deal from Futureshop.

I'm upgrading from the original iPhone (2G) that I got for free, unlocked/jailbroke it, and have been using on a voice-only, pay-as-you-go basis from fido.

Picked up a nano sim at the Fido store on Queen St in Toronto today - didn't charge me a cent, didn't even check my account or ask for ID/Phone number, etc.

It is lol. I did it last year to get my 4S. Walked by the big line at sq1 apple store. I needed a micro sim as I was coming from a blackberry!

I already got one at the Rogers store. Don't worry guys im sure there are more nano sims then iPhone 5s floating around.

So ok, if I can get a free Nano card from the Apple store that would be awesome, but will I need my carrier to activate it? Or I can take this nano card home and activate it myself online?

Or Apple store can activate it for me on site when they give me the card?

@bigringit

If you already have an Account/Monthly plan with a carrier, just call them and tell them you want to switch SIM cards and give them the new number.

If you don't currently have an account/monthly plan then you need to bring the nano sim to a store.
