If you ordered from apple.ca, it will be in "preparing for shipment" until it is actually in transit to your shipping address. It is likely that the distribution center has it and is waiting to ship it to you so that you get it Friday and not earlier.

Once it ships then you get tracking info - simple as that

First everyone needs to chill out, my iPhone 4S didn't ship from China till wednesday night, and I got it friday by 10 AM, so relax guys, relax.

Secondley, anyone in North Vancouver, I had been searching high and low for a Fido Nano sim so I could avoid the lines friday since I am getting it to my door. However all the fido stores said no go, finally I FOUND A PLACE!

If you need a nano fido card in Vancouver area, Wireless Wave, in Park Royal South, in West Van DOES HAVE Fido Nano cards for 10 bux a pop.

So happy I found em, had been searching for 3 days lol.

Hope that helps some people on here.

How do you know that? I really hope that.

Because as has been said multiple times now, that's happened for the last couple of iphone/ipod pre-orders. There is virtually no indication it's on its way until basically the day before it arrives at your door.
People are freaking out over nothing.

I'm sure there's going to be some people who have to wait until next week, but for those who got in early enough on the pre-order and live in a major city, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't expect it on Friday.

“As you surely know some people have cut down a “conventional” SIM (2FF) in a MicroSIM (3FF) with a knife or with a pair of scissors. Sometimes it has worked, sometimes not. Reason that this method functioned was that the 2FF and the 3FF SIM card has the same thickness. The thickness of the Nano-SIM is reduced by about 15 percent – so we think that a reducing only in size is not working. Backward compatibility with older device models is ensured by an adapter solution that allows the Nano-SIM to be integrated into all established mobile devices for universal use.”

And this was confirmed.

That doesn't say anything about "damaging the phone" as you said. And btw, 15% difference translates to about 0.1mm.
Obviously sourcing a nano sim is going to be ideal, but for those who are stuck without one and want to try it, as long as you don't force it, it's likely the only damage you're going to do is to your old sim.

Sounds like Wireless Wave is the place to go. Another Canadian, but in Mississauga, said he also bought a nano sim (BELL) from Wireless Wave.

I am in Richmond BC, I may go to Richmond Center's Wireless Wave tomorrow and see if they can sell me one. So with sim in hand, I can easily transfer my current Bell plan onto it myself? If not, it wouldn't save me the trouble on Friday to have to visit Bell to get it done in store.

"It doesn't sound like a lot, but if Apple has engineered the tolerance tight on the new SIM card tray, it could be enough to jam the SIM in the handset, or even damage the SIM or the handset.

All that's different is the plastic housing that it is embedded into. And that's the problem."

Look it's obviously to everyone's discretion if they want to do this or not.
But I suggest against it. After all we are buying $800+ devices, why not just do it the proper way and get the nano SIM instead of taking a risk by damaging the phone because the SIM gets stuck inside or something. Again, just my opinion, everyone is free to do what they like.

Picked this bad boy up, had my number transferred.

$5, but no fee as far as I know.

:D

wow you are totally ahead of the game! Number transferred to the card before the phone arrives. Without the phone, how do you know the number has properly been transferred over? Did you do the transfer yourself or in-store?

So I preordered with Telus on Friday, I got my 2 confirmation emails on Friday and waited until tonight which is when I recieved an email saying they were unable to process my order because they need a manual CC check. I was wondering if anyone knows if they'll continue to ship the phone as I wait to do the Credit check or if they'll completely stall and I'll have to wait until some time in the coming weeks to get it if I don't get this Credit check done on time?

Nice! how much did it cost you?

Preparing for shipment, I have to phone them about the CC so if I have to wait until October now instead of this Friday I won't be very happy considering it took them 5 days to tell me..

If you ordered from Telus, where did you find the "preparing for shipment" status? I can't find anything on the Telus site...

Yea, fair enough. I would only try it as a last resort... just depends what availability of those nano sims is like. If I had to wait more than a few days, when I already had the phone... I might have to try it :D

There isn't any information available until the phone ships. Thats when you'll be told your shipping method/tracking ID and when you'll be charged for it.

I spoke to a CSR yesterday about it.

The "preparing for shipment" is shown if you had ordered via Apple's website. If you ordered it through a carrier's website, what you see will most likely be different

Also, anyone know anywhere in Ottawa where they will sell me or give me a SIM card for Rogers? I've been to a few places, either sold out, or wont sell, and I seriously dont wanna deal with the chaos on launch day.

Once tracking works, gonna call and hold the package at the depot, that way I am sure to have it Friday :)

Everyone is talking about SIM cards. I preordered with Telus. Are they the only ones sending the nano-sim with the phone to your door? They told me that the SIM will be delivered with my iPhone. They said it would be a lot easier than having to go to the store. Also, preorders through Telus waived the $35 activation fee. They said I could put my new SIM myself online, or go into the store and either way I wouldn't have to pay an activation fee. I must say, it just makes me love Telus that much more!

every carrier will include a SIM with the phone. People are only buying SIMs because they have unlocked phones coming and don't want the hassle of having to go in store on Friday to pick one up.

Exactly what nasa25 said.

Wireless Wave at Billings. If I were to guess, most Wireless Waves will sell them. I'm going to go to the one in the rideau centre tomorrow. I'll report back either way.
