Wow. Between charging for SIM cards and luck-of-the-draw LTE service, this thread is a strong argument for switching providers from Rogers.

I just switched both of my phones from Rogers to Bell and I couldn't be happier with it. Better reception and faster LTE for me. At my house where I was having problems with LTE earlier in this thread, I now have a 3-4 bar LTE signal with bell. And the best part is the phones activated and ported in less than an hour!

Just to let everybody know who is on Rogers, with a family plan. None of their family plans have LTE / HSPA+. You may pick it up occasionally / get the speeds, but it wont be consistent. You will be stuck with 3G until Rogers revises their plans in November, when/if they may create a family LTE plan. Just a heads up.

Are you certain?

(notice the LTE tag)

I've been on the unlimited minutes/4GB data shared plan since May and have consistently received an LTE signal and LTE speeds on both my One XL and Lumia 900.

I was on hold for a total of 3 hours to find out this information. I was at top tiered support. I am going to a real Rogers store in Ottawa tomorrow (my city only has an authorized retailer) also will check to see if I get LTE in Ottawa) Will return to this thread when I am done!

Just tried using the phone as a hotspot, USB connected to my MacBook Air.

Overall very impressed with the speed. Apple did it right with the new wifi and transmitter redesign.

Below, speedtest on LTE in Ottawa using the Bell network.

Just got my iPhone 5 replaced (the original one wouldn't activate) and can confirm that I'm getting a consistent LTE signal on it on my shared plan, same as it did with my (Rogers) HTC One XL :)

I'd be surprised if I wouldn't be able to get LTE, especially since the LTE tag is clearly shown on their family plan page.

Any Telus folks having spotty LTE issues? I'm in Vancouver - well within the LTE coverage area - but no LTE love. I did get LTE starting around Cambie/41st and off and on downtown, but over in my neighbourhood (E. 44th and Prince Edward) all I get is 3G.

Also, with an iPhone 5 shouldn't it read 4G when I'm not getting LTE? All I see is 3G.

Cheers,

D.

4G is only shown when you're receiving HSPA+, you still get the 3G icon when you're only receiving 3G.

Exact same problem here in Hamilton, Ontario. I am supposed to have LTE in a 5km radius of my house, however there is none, it just shows 3G.

To make matters worse. I was near downtown Hamilton yesterday, on one side of the street I had 5 bars of 3G, I crossed the street and I had 4 bars of LTE. I did this a few times and it kept happening. I am not sure if this is an iPhone or Telus issue but it is really annoying me!

Try calling Telus and alerting this. I am sure we are not the only two people this is happening too and the more people that call the sooner this will be resolved, hopefully.

I have similar issues with mine on Rogers. I am getting LTE at home, but when I drive around Toronto, I see it switch down to 3G at times and then back to LTE. The issue is that I stream radio via TuneIn and this causes rebuffering. Is this a problem with Rogers or the phone? It is annoying and would switch back to my IPhone 4 if it persists.

So I tried calling the online store and the Apple Store at the mall in regards to me switching from black to white. Online says to go to store, would be faster - I said they don't sell unlocked phones, but guy on the phone kept insisting they did. Then he said would have to return this, and order another one, 3-4 weeks without a phone. The first retail store said they couldn't do anything, second said they could only swap for the same one (so would have to be black). Not sure how I should do this. Wish they would just sell unlocked phones at the retail stores.

The iPhones at the Apple store are all unlocked. The locking process is done during the sale. Right now they will not sell it unlocked, but should have no issue swapping.

Color change policy is probably up to the store, usually Apple is exceptional in making customers happy, hope that is not changing.

Are you sure it'll show 4G for hspa+? I thought that was just an AT&T thing that Apple did with iOS. I'm in hspa+ coverage often and it always shows 3G.

I had a pretty long conversation with tech support over the LTE coverage issue. I'm in London, ON and all I can seem to get is 3G. Supposedly the entire city has LTE but I can't seem to get it. The tech guy made some changes on his end, asked me to reboot my phone and reset the network settings and I started getting LTE. it's still extremely spotty though.

Has anyones phone come from China? Mine just shipped out... wondering how long it takes to get to Vancouver??

I agree. That was an ATT&T thing. I believe that our phones in Canada will display 3G when we,re on HSPA+.

Yup. Been getting these kinds of speeds now on 3G, must be at least hspa+, maybe even dc-hspa.

well.. after much thought, i'm returning my iPhone 5. Has a distinct yellow colouring and a loose lock/sleep button.

Can't justify paying all that money for this type of product. Call me crazy and tell me this is normal, but my other iPhones weren't like this, neither was my iPad.

I'll hopefully reorder for the holidays. It was a fun week of ordering/tracking/etc.

I can't speak for other areas, but there is an LTE outage in the Greater Vancouver area for Bell/Telus. I have already spoken with Tech and they said it is happening for iPhone 5 only - they are taking customer info to help come up with a fix sooner (Bell Tech Support said this).

I would suggest calling them so they can log your issue as well. A lot of other folks are posting the same thing on forums.

That's interesting, thanks for sharing that. I've noticed a similar outage in my area in Edmonton and was wondering why it would be out since I'm with Virgin, who shares the same Bell/Telus towers I believe.

Had a 64 black 5 on order through Rogers reservations. Still "in progress". Anyhow, walked passed the futureshop at Robson & Granville yesterday (Saturday), and to my amazement, they still had stock! Grabbed one, and was outta there and activated in no time.
Anyhow, can't get LTE to work, so I phoned up Rogers, and they said I can't have it with my plan! What a crock!
I have 500mb for Canada AND USA (no roaming fee for data in the states) for $35. Signed up for that last July. I guess the plan doesn't exist now, so they won't give me LTE. It's not a ton of data, but for travel down there, it's way cheaper and makes life so easy.
Has anyone run into a situation like this? Suggestions?

Very close to returning mine as well ($899+tax for a phone less reliable than my an iPhone 4 is not right). The most important feature for me is streaming radio in my car and it breaks up all the time with the iPhone 5. I expected much better signal, not worse with the new version.

Returned my rMBP, likely retuning my iPhone 5.... Apple may put me on their black list!

Yikes! No wonder you feel it is a poor value, because it is. Return it and buy a $200 subsidized phone.

still have about 19-20 months left on my contract with Bell. there is no way i'm breaking that. i've got a really good plan for being with Bell. i'd end up having to switch to an in-market plan for $10-$20 more per month - no thanks.
