Why don't you all save yourself some time and frustration and wait a few days to go buy your new phone? I waited close to a month to buy my 3G, there was no line but there was none in stock. I got an email from the store that they got 8 more in stock so I went down and got one of them. I'm from a smaller city though... ;-)

Well, here's my story guys... Went to Rogers here in Kelowna, BC and was about 6th in line. We got 27 at this particular rogers. 7 32gb iPhone 4's and the rest were 16gb models.

The guy seemed to know what he was doing once he arrived. To keep the line short and moving, we all just got to go into the store in the order we were lined up, gave him our details (the phone we wanted, etc), and he said he'd set them up and call us when they were ready to pick up. I called about an hour ago (12:30 PM) and he had only activated 3 so far, so as I am number 8, I'm still waiting to go pick mine up.

I heard that other Rogers stores in Kelowna got quite a few in stock as well, but are surely sold out by this point.

My only question, hopefully someone can help me out here... (sorry if it was mentioned before, just thought I'd post the question alongside my experience this morning)

If I were to purchase an iPhone Bumper from the Rogers store, for $25 or $30, whatever it is, will I still get a refund from Apple? Or do I have to use the iPhone app they released? I'm still kind of fuzzy on that issue.

Thanks guys, and hope everyone's enjoying their iPhones!

Literally came on to ask the same thing. I didn't want to spend anymore time in the store so I took everything home and switched the SIM to Micro SIM online. iTunes shows my phone # in the information so the SIM transfer worked but it's been stuck with "Waiting for activation..." with No Service since I turned the phone on. I know this happened with the 3G launch and a reset worked for me, I'm in the middle of a fairly large sync so I won't be able to test that out for a bit.

I searched some tweets and some Rogers techs have said to wait 24 hours. I called myself but got a guy who thought I was a retard and didn't know how to connect my phone to itunes so i just pretended it worked and said bye.

Can someone confirm this? I did a google but keep getting mixed results.

I know that Apple iPhone 4 are unlocked. If I buy the phone from Rogers, is it locked to Rogers forever once it's activated?

Thanks.

You are clearly a lot smarter than I was. I wasted an hour and a half in a line of 200+ people, a line which moved roughly 10 yards in that time. Believe it or not, in the time that I was there, only about 6 people joined the queue. And this was during lunchtime. This whole disorganized mess was orchestrated by Apple so that they can be on the TV news again at dinnertime.

I have a good contract with Rogers and I am starting to think that I might just buy an unlocked HTC phone in the US, say the Desire, when they are upgraded to Android 2.2. 2.1 is just brutal with battery life.

Edit: I did not read. If you buy from Rogers it is locked and the best you can do is a software unlock afterwards.

Cool thanks Peter.

Another question. Can anyone confirm: If you buy the Rogers phone - and are currently in contract but meet anyone of their hardware upgrade conditions - does that mean, you have to pay cancellation fees, before the new contract takes effect? I read the Legal Disclaimer but it's a lot jargon to me and that's what I make sense of.

I am eligible for 159 upgrade, but according to their disclaimer, I would have to pay 200 + 100 (data) in cancellation fees. Am I right in my assumption?

Thanks.

No you just pay $159 + $35 activation fee and you get your phone. No additional charges and your plan is extended by 3yrs.

No. You are incorrect.

In order to get the lower upgrade price you agree to extend your contract for another 3 years. This is a bilateral agreement whereas the cancellation fee applies in the case of you unilaterally cancelling the contract.

Oh so I just basically just extend whatever I have remaining + 3yrs contract right?

No :)

There was talk of Fido doing stacking (I think that has changed) but with Rogers the 3 years runs from the time you pick up the new phone.

Oh awesome. You're way better than any Rogers CSR :p Ty. Did you get your phone already.

Anyone know how to truely check to see if your phone is Unlocked?
Aside from remembering the large cash you just paid Apple?
There must be a way to check in the software to see for sure if it is Unlocked... Without having to get another carrier's micro-sim and stick it in...

I popped in my Bell iPad SIM into my unlocked iPhone 4 which I "activated" in iTunes with a Rogers SIM and it worked just fine. Not sure if there is any way to check the baseband directly without a jailbreak.

get a friends sim card... stick it in... Also it's not really that expensive if you're not eligible for the subsidized pricing... 10 more then a carrier locked phone gets you a unlocked phone with a higher re-sale value.

Figured there could be another way... since all the phones arrived unlock and are locked by your carrier in store, or by apple depending on the price point and carrier...

Square One...3 to 4 Hour Wait

Just off the phone with Square One. Their supply should last until mid day tomorrow and the wait right now is about 3-4 hours.

Oh well...I'll wait till late August or early September...the hype has worn off me + I'm not eligible till April 2011 :p Unlocked here I come!

Pretty sure that's not the case... I just had a 3GS shipped directly from Shenzhen China that was locked to Rogers. I performed the activation myself.

First I wanted to test if it was unlocked (maybe they shipped me the 8GB 3GS unlocked).. so I tried to activate it using a Fido sim card... no dice.. popped in a rogers sim card and instant activation

I couldn't get one. I went to the Rogers Plus store, which got ZERO, and then over to the other Rogers store, which got six and I was tenth in line. I drove to Pacific Centre and looked at the line is 300 deep and watched how in ten minutes about two people went in so I went home. I'm sad. :(

Don't know if this has been said before but I notice no reception issues when touching the band. Telus in Vancouver is a pretty strong network. Love this phone....

If you look on your receipt, there should be a "No contract SIM" that got scanned in with your iPhone. My understanding is that this is what registers your iPhone in Apple's backend system as an unlocked phone.

Drove from Seattle at 12AM to 3:30AM and got to pacific mall centre. I got into the store at 9:15AM (we were about the 100th in line). Picked up my 2 32GB unlocked at $877 each after tax and went to the hotel and slept and just got up :D Couldn't be happier. now I can sell my POS AT&T locked iphones and use these with Tmobile!
