The CANADIAN iPhone thread.....

I called Rogers over 3.5 hours ago to activate my sim card ... still not activated >_<

What an "ughh" day, had to pay through my teeth to get an unlocked phone. Oh wells, hopefully it gets activated soon and I can get to using this thing properly.
 
I cut down my SIM to a microSIM but it didnt turn out perfectly (worked, but seemed sketchy) so I did a change of SIM on the Rogers site to the microSIM apple gave me. It said it would be instant but it ended up taking 2-3 hours too. Rogers' systems are definitely screwed up right now.
 
Ok. This is kind of bad news. I have no reception in my house. Oddly enough I have almost full bars on my old phone (2005). Both are Bell. WEIRD

and no, i'm not even holding it

If you HUP you sign a new 3 year contract that will have the new ECF.

Got my phone today, showed up at a rogers wireless at 6:30 was the 10th in line. Was the 2nd last to actually get a phone. Rogers activation system sure was waked today. I got home at 1:30.... But screen looks great, camera looks great, and death grip does zip to my reception!

Might be a stupid question but have you tried it outside your house? If it says "No Service" there's a chance it hasn't activated yet, although if it works elsewhere that's definitely a strange occurrence.

Try turning the phone off and on a couple times, maybe a reset. If that doesn't work I'd suggest giving Rogers a call, some people are saying it may take up to 24hrs but mine finally activated after power it down for the fifth time about 3 hours after activating the micro SIM.
 
Got to yorkdale at 3am, left apple store at 3 pm

thats all I will say about today

oh, and that I did get 2 iphones and a $25 voucher from rogers for wasting hours of my time
 
Waited 15 hours today for iPhone in Fairview Mall..crazyyy

Anyone know what is going on with the bumper case? I am downloading the iPhone 4 Case Program App right now.

Has anybody tried using a micro-sim in another phone?
I activated my micro-sim and now I can't use my BlackBerry. Still trying to figure out a way, but it appears that the micro-sim has less metallic area than a regular sim, which is why I am confused about how a micro-sim adapter would work. I tried using the larger sim area from the micr-sim card and it didn't work.
It sucks that using the Rogers change sim online, once you activate a new sim, the old one is junk. I wouldnt mind doing it online everytime, but SIMs are so expensive to buy lol.

Edit: scratch that. As i typed this post, I inserted the new micro-sim in my BlackBerry 9700 and positioned it a little to the left and it works!!

Edit #2: didn't do anything different, started phone, bbms came through, etc. However now the data isn't working.
 
Wondering if anybody can offer some advice/info on my situation. So I waited in line for 4 hours for iPhone, finally got it...but didn't get out of the store until 4:30. To add to the frustration, when I finally left the store, I realized that I have a camera/auto focus problem that has been reported by others and is a hardware problem.

So...
1) Do you think Apple (Eaton's Centre) will have replacement iPhone 4s to do a replacement tomorrow?

and 2) Would it be out of the question to try and get something out of Apple or Rogers for my hassles? Waited all day for the phone, now need to travel out of my way into Toronto to have it replaced. Perhaps if I convey my frustration I can get something free!

Any insight would be much appreciated.

OMG thank you, I literally just restarted the phone and it said: it's activated!

And now i'm getting a Rogers message saying i don't have a data plan :rolleyes:

Hardware issue... You got to speak to Apple :p
 
I called Fido at 8:30pm (PST) to transfer my plan from my 2 old iPhone SIMs to my 2 new microSIMs. Rebooted phone and within 2min it was activated and working!

Hey guys...so I ironed out a great plan with retentions with Rogers but they were out of phones by that time. Rogers and I guess everywhere is sold out of the iphone. Does anyone know when more will be available?

When I Went To a Bell Store They Said In 2 Weeks

And At A Apple Store They Said Check Back On Monday
( I Hope There Right!)
 
Ok since my question didnt get answered, I will ask again:

My dad is the contract holder, and he wont be in town for a few days, therefore I wont be able to get the iPhone 4 for a few days.

My cousin may be getting 2 iP4s tom as HUP with Rogers. Can he give me one, and then when my dad gets back, I will get another one with my HUP and give the new one to him?

Im pretty sure it should work, except I would need to get a separate micro-sim for myself (pretty sure the one that comes with my cousins iP4 will be activated with his acc).

Where can I get a micro sim? Is it free?

Yes, as long as you activate the iPhone 4 with a Rogers micro-SIM, you'll be able to switch it with any Rogers customer without troubles (so long as you have your own micro-SIM tied to your account).

Just ask Rogers when you go to purchase the iPhone 4. Rogers Micro-SIMs cost $10 from the Rogers store, but $2 to make so if you find them anywhere cheaper (online?) you can save some extortion money. :D

So did you pay with cash or a US credit card? I'm thinking about making the six hour drive from Richland, WA in a few weeks or a month when I can show up on a delivery day for them. Just wondering if I would have Ny issue buying it without living in Canada. Have you set it up with AT&T yet? Did they give you a microsim card even though they don't have record of you buying an iPhone 4?

Thanks. Just a couple more questions. My cousin will most likely buy the iP4 at the Apple store, can I just walk in to Rogers and ask for one? Or will they only give me one if I buy an iPhone.

Second, do I have to be tied to the acc in order to get the micro sim, or can I just get one no questions asked and set it up online
