HI fellow canadian iphoners!

Just signed up to ask this question.
Should I get the iphone 4 from fido at full price-250 credit? Effectively that would be 563-40 fido dollars I have. There is no contract stacking, for now but who knows this might change...

I mean most of the time they stack don't they? Well for fido anyways. I know rogers always does an at and t refreshing your 3 year from the start. Or I can switch over to robbers at september and get the full discount price at 269. But then thinking about the iphone 4 is roger's policys the same as fido with the full price-250 credit? I do have a pretty good plan with fido right now and I would lose if If I were to switch over to rogers. At the moment it's fido for 60 dollars a month 200dt,early evening 5, VM,WC,Caller id, unlimited text 6gb data.
I would have to start from scratch.. and the roger plans look kinda ......

Or the alternative is to get a rogers plan from someone else with iphone upgrade possibility at 275. But how likely is that?

Which route should I take? I mean I would love to buy the iphone outright but 850 is alot and I don't have that kind of cash...
Or I could sit this out and wait for the iphone 5, presumably next year? But who knows the white iphone coming out later this year, will the iphone 5 really come out next year?

Thanks so much for reading! Sorry if your eyes become sore :D

I don't know if this has been said already but I didn't have the ''death grip'' on my iPhone 4 when i bought it and then I upgraded it to 4.0.1 and now I have it. Am i the only one?

Anyone know where I can get a white bumper or case for the phone? I can't seem to find one anywhere.

Hi

You are thinking incorrectly. Basically let's get this straight the issue is hardware not software. Software might be able to read antenna attenuation and adapt to it reducing the damage but gripping that point creates antennuation. Now about before and after software update 4.0.1.

Apple (like many other phone makers and carriers) cheats about it's bar display. When they said we just realized TOTALLY calculated the status signal incorrectly, really means we have to make the bars display somewhat realistically now. So why now? Because before the "dealth grip" didn't antennuate the antenna as bad as with this phone. Basically the signal dropped a little in action case but the bars still displayed High signal. With the new iPhone, the signal drops significantly, leaving 4-5 bars on display but actually your signal is dead (bars visually trick UPI by showing high bars). Meaning apple tried to cheat and got called. When you have high bars and dropped calls something is fishy. So the software update "tries" to "realistically" display actual bar status. Meaning they aren't 100% percent true but are closer.

I hope I didn't make you fall a sleep with all this and I'm not 100% sure or correct about this.

Thanks
AE

No actually it makes sense. I don't really mind anyway because I didn't have any dropped calls so far so it's fine ;) I'm reaaaaally happy with my iPhone 4. My first iPhone (i had an iPod touch though) and I couldn't be happier. The Retina Display is so great.

I am in the US until tomorrow and can't pay the ridiculous roaming rates (plus the amount time spent on hold!) but does Pacific Centre still have iPhone 4's? Anyone mind doing me a favor and finding out? The store phone number is 778-373-1800 if someone wouldn't mind checking! If they do have a fair amount left I will head straight from the border to the Pacific Centre store!

I know this is kind of unrelated, as someone who used to text less and never use data, I was wondering if someone could answer some (noob) questions?

(I'm with Rogers)

1. I live in Ontario and was wondering where I would get charged for texting. If I text someone outside of my area-code, but within Ontario will I get charged? What about within Canada?

2. Pretty much the same thing as above, but for data, where do they begin? Am I alright anywhere in Ontario or anywhere in Canada?

Sat there are 4 hour waits at both APPLE stores. It appears CANADIANS are going crazy for the unlocked phones. No one wants to be shackled to a slavery 3 year plan!

I sauntered over BB and they had plenty of phones, BUT ONLY with a 3 year ball and chain!!!!! There were 2-3 peeps there buying! LOL

That's most likely because their already LOCKED into an existing 3yr plan for the past 1-2yrs and know better plans are just 1yr away and looking to change carriers.

Honestly has anyone tried the Telus tower at 25 york street? I think I saw quite a few (handful) of customers there on the main floor Friday all day. That is if you want Telus 1/2/3yr locked plan or a HUP vs new activation.

Unless I get to try one in my hand, I doubt I'm missing much. Then again purchasing one and selling it with a $400+ premium would be sweet.

I got mine yesterday from a Rogers Plus store. I was lucky, I got there at 815am and I was number 19 for the 20 phones they had. I was out of there at 1230pm.

I was suppose to pay $399 for the phone as I've had my refurbed 3G only since August but somehow the rep got it for me for $159. I already had the 6G plan so no changes there.

Issue? The camera, crashed on opening and rebooted the phone. I made an appointment with a Genius today at 445pm at Square One and was surprisingly met with still long lines outside of Apple. I was out in 15min with a new iphone4 as they couldn't figure out why the phone was crashing.

I love the phone, the screen is very sharp and vivid, the camera (now that it is working, lol) is great and it is super fast (compared to my 3G).

Does anyone have problems with their iPhone 4 screen? Sometimes the screen is unresponsive but the lock screen button, volume and home button work. I held the lock and home button to hard restart the phone but sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Well folks, it looks like I'll be returning my iPhone on Monday. It must be defective.

No reception anywhere in my house, or on my property. I live in a very populated area so there is no excuse. Furthermore, my old phone (which is on the same carrier) has almost full bars.

I'm on Bell right now. Should I exchange it with a new one or just switch to Rogers?

Did you try rebooting the phone?

how's everyone finding the death grip issue?

i couldn't get it to drop anything but one bar, the first 24 hrs.

but just couple hrs ago, i was able to bring it to no service-->drop call.

i'm a little tiny bit worried yes.

Loving everything about the iPhone 4 so far, especially the improved camera! I can't replicate the antenna issue or the proximity sensor issue at all, so I'm really pleased!

Has anyone figured out how the $20 iPad Sharing with Rogers works? No Rogers employees at the stores seem to know about it and it's not in the data activation page on the iPad. Should I call in?

Yes that is how I got mine. However, I have been in store and talked to 6 reps in customer care and tech support, and still do not have it working. They escalated my case to tier 2 support and I'm waiting a response.

Edit: I should also add that as part if the process I had to buy an iPhone 4 microSIM for the iPad. They wouldn't give it for free... Apparently the plan requires a postpaid sim and not prepaid. Despite this and customer care insisting my account us set up correctly, it still does not work. My iPad can only access Rogers pages on 3G.

iPhone 4 SOLD OUT in GTA

called Apple Store today, iPhone 4 is sold out in GTA.

I was told by Apple employee yesterday that they should have some shipment in the coming week, but today the person I spoke to told me they have no idea when the next shipment will come in.

The long lines have nothing to do with people wanting to buy unlocked. Friday morning at the Apple Store MAYBE 15% were buying unlocked phones. The rest were all there buying contract devices. I know this because eventually they started pulling those peeople who wanted unlocked out of line and had 1 Apple rep selling just the unlocked phones. Got through the unlocked line very fast.
Those wanting on contract had to wait a long time as the carrier networks were bogged down and crashing. That is why there are still long lines. If everyone was buying unlocked, the lines would move very quick.

Yup.. I was there and that's pretty much the case.. My friend got the unlocked phone in about 4 hours in line, my locked phone took a total of 11 hours because Rogers HUP activation server crapped out. Locking process took almost 2 hours.

Don't think anyone helped you yet so I'll answer your questions.

1. If you are in Canada, testing and receiving texts is included in your text message package.
Sending a text to the US and international is additional.
Finally, if you receive a text while in the US or overseas it's free (if you have a text plan).

2. Data is similar, if you are in Canada it's included in your plan. Roaming begins as soon as you cross the border.

Thank you so much for answering the question. So what I'm getting is that regardless of where I go in Canada, I'm good! Thank goodness!

How's the Marware case? I'm looking to get the white case which kinda looks like the bumpers. I think that a white case would look sharp on a black iPhone.

Got mine Friday morning at the Eaton Center Apple Store. Arrived at 6:00am, line was already 200+ deep and wrapped around half the mall. Moved relatively quickly (covered 4/5 distance to the store) by 10:30am, but then movement slowed to almost nothing for the next 3 hours due to Rogers' servers going WTFPWN'ed.

Reached spitting distance of the store at 2:00pm and got pulled into the store for unlocked phones. Was out with my phone by 2:10pm. Apparently, both Bell and Telus servers were fine, just Rogers that went down.

Also, can't lose a single bar in downtown Toronto on 4.0.1 no matter what I try. Too bad iOS4 won't allow you to view the decibel strength...

As for the phone... the screen is gorgeous :D

I took my chances at a Rogers Plus in Vaughan. I knew that the store had 11 units, only 2 being 32gb. I was early enough(arrived at 5:30) and second in line so I got the second and last 32gb. Well worth the wait and the activation process didn't take all that long. I was on my way by 9:30.
So, was it worth it?
I had the 3g so I never really got to play with a 3gs. Compared to the 3g, this thing flies. Snappy and fast. I always thought that the speed was governed by the connection but the loading times for any of the apps, including safari, is at least 2x as fast, maybe more. Beautiful screen, sleek design, and no issue with the antennae (although I'm able to duplicate the signal loss thing. I don't know if this has any effect on calls being dropped etc. Seems like a minor issue so far). All in all, a home run as far as I'm concerned.
Have patience all of you out there that weren't lucky enough to get one the first time around. It's well worth the wait.
