I haven't used Cogeco mail for a few years, but in the past I used to get issues with sending mail using Cogeco's SMTP server when not connected to a cogeco internet connection. Not sure if this still causes problems or if you are connected to a wifi network with cogeco as the isp anyway..

That's odd you mention that about maybe having to be connected to a cogeco wifi connection for it to work properly...I read that somewhere on the net yesterday, but can't for the life of me understand why that would be the issue.

I'll try it again tonight when I get home as I have cogeco wifi there.

But until then does anyone else have any helpful tips or ideas or websites to check out...I've also gone on Apple support site to seek help.

Thanks everyone!

The reason would be that Cogeco's mail settings are all default and not really secure. Anyone could try setting up a mail client and using cogeco's smtp server without any authentication, so possibly cogeco could only allow smtp traffic from clients on their own network.

Just tried setting up my old cogeco email on my phone. it grabs the pop.cogeco.ca and smtp.cogeco.ca for the mail servers... trying to verify now and taking a while..

Edit: it finished and gave the error about no response from Cogeco's SMTP server. Can receive mail but cannot send. Definitely a cogeco issue i'd say. I bet if we try at home through wifi that's connected to cogeco internet the SMTP will work.

Tried adding account using outlook, test confirms it is a Cogeco issue

"IP address is not authorized"

You're exactly right, trying at home on a cogeco wifi network I can now send and receive email.

WOW that sucks so basically if you're not near a cogeco connection you're screwed???

Any way to work around this??? I'm soooo hoping you have an idea! lol

Like jsh said, get a Gmail account... so much more useful compared to an ISP's free email that you can only access using pop3. Once using Gmail, you can set it to check & retrieve your cogeco email as well.

I finally got my iPhone 4!:D

Got it yesterday at about 4pm after waiting 7 hours and a bit in line at the Fairview Apple Store in Toronto.

Got there at about 8:30 am and was roughly 46th in line. Employee comes out saying they have none in stock at the moment. Ok so we just waited. A while later they get a shipment, but no iPhones. They then come out saying that they aren't getting anymore shipments and people might as well leave. About 30 people left, which put me to about 16th in line. (Lucky eh)

About 2 hours after that they get another "surprise shipment" which included iPhone 4s in both 16GB and 32GB. A while later they start taking names. At about 3:30 we finally got inside the store, they got me an iPhone 4 32GB, activated it, all within 15-20 minutes.

Oh man, this iPhone is just, wow. As Scott Forstall said: "The screen on the iPhone is blow away."

This phone feels so solid, it has a nice weight to it, and the screen is just incredible, I have no words for how brilliant this screen is.

It's a week after launch and they still have line ups?

I bought two on launch day, and in addition to both having the proximity sensor issue, one has a faulty earpiece which intermittently just lowers volume when I'm on a call to the point where I barely hear the other party. I was hoping to get it replaced with a brand new unit. Probably not happening :(

You guys think the Genuis bar replacement units are refurbs yet or still new?

Hey guys, dumb question.

Can you upgrade your phone at the apple store now? I checked on the Rogers site which said I was eligible to upgrade for $399, but I remember before you could only buy from the apple store if you were starting a new contract.

If you were using the eligibility tool on the Rogers website, it's broken. Or it was as of a few days ago ... as per @RogersHelps on Twitter.

Guys Rogers retentions has 16gigers available.

I just placed an order. Be firm and tell them Bell has them in your store. Also mention the fact you ran all around town for the past week and a half without success. If they say no tell them to go check stock before declining.

She said it will arrive in 3-7 business days.

Okay, hold on.

Anyone feel like trying for a 32gb? Would I have any luck with retentions if I still have 1yr left on the 3yr I signed for the 3G launch? 10yr wireless customer here.

edit-------------

My 3G died 2 weeks ago and I've been running all over the place trying to get an iPhone4 since launch. I've pulled an old Moto RAZR out of the junk drawer for survival, but I'm still paying for a 6gb data package that I'm not using while Rogers isn't getting any stock. Maybe I'll call retentions myself tomorrow.

Well since I'm not having trouble receiving email through cogeco on the iPod Touch can I send through Yahoo and have it shown on the receiving persons end that it was sent through cogeco?

I know within Gmail you can add multiple addresses that you can "Send mail as", so I can reply or send mail from a cogeco address if I wanted. But on the iPhone itself I'm not sure if you can send and have cogeco as the reply to address..

Ordered off of Telusmobility.com. Shipped out Tuesday night, arrived at my house Wednesday morning.
**** line ups! Order online folks!

When did you order off the site? And was it a new account or an upgrade?

Any signs of shipping for those who ordered from the Apple Online Store? I ordered mine pretty early in the morning on launch day, and the status hasn't changed.

Hi Guys, anybody knows if I can order it through the phone with Fido Retentions? I know that you can do it with Rogers now as they have stock. Thanks

So did you guys all install the new PDF patch available in Cydia yet?

It closes the exploit hole but still allows you to be jailbroken...it's only weighing in at 5KB

Nothing's changed for me; still shipping the 20th and delivering the 26th. (Destination: small-town Ontario.) I got my micro-SIM from Fido, and today I got a 5-pack of micro-SIM adaptors from Micro-SIM Shop in Austria.

keep an eye our on your credit card if you used it for the micro sims. I ordered from same place few months back and within days had fraudulent charges on my card from all over the world. Got it all resolved but still wasn't fun to deal with.

It's been almost two weeks with nothing unusual on my card though; I watch it like a hawk. Nothing unusual on the PayPal account either. :) Thanks for the tip though.
