I finally got an iPhone 4 32G at the Eaton Centre in Toronto today. It was a really really long wait, but I guess it was worth it. This phone is soooo much better than my old 3G. It has some attenuation of the signal strength when touching the gap, but no other issues that I can tell. It is super speedy and that screen truly is gorgeous. I can't wait to try out Face Time, but no one I know has a IP4 yet.

What time did you go / how long in line? I'm trying to pick up one for a friend but can't find them anywhere...

I think my iPhone 4 has one dead pixel. Sigh...

It's almost impossible to not have a single dead pixel in anything though. My iMac has a few, my new TV has three. My digital camera's screen has three.

Oh well I guess.

Yeah, but the new one could be even worse. It could have more dead pixels and even other problems.

I don't know, is getting an exchange a painless process?

So... here's how my friday played out...

5:15 AM - Arrived at Market Mall Apple Store. 1 person ahead of me.
6:30 AM - Line grows to ~20 people
6:50 AM - Apple store manager comes outside the store momentarily. They presently have no iPhones in stock.
9:00AM - Line is almost 50 deep
10:00AM - Store opens. No news yet. Line ~75 people now.
10:30AM - Manager arrives. After recieving one of the biggest shipments in months, not a single iPhone is in the recieved stock. Line disperses.

I was really confident about getting one today. Being a friday, you would have assumed their shipment would have lots of phones to hold the store over till Monday. Guess not. So I ended up ordering one online cause I wont have the time for the next four weeks to line up anyway.

I must be bad luck, on the two days I waited this week no iPhones were in the shipment :(

I'm not even gonna bother trying to find one today. Went for a bike ride in the morning instead of heading to a mall/Fido store, haha!

But I do need to find one in the next two weeks.

Are there regular shipments coming or is it just sporadic?

I don't know why people get up early for the phone. I called Rogers on Aug 12th. Got the phone on Aug 13th.

Fido doesn't do phone orders unfortunately. I'll try calling again today but I doubt my luck will be any better.

Rogers wasn't supposed to take phone orders too, no? I just called and said I am not happy with my blackberry. I got transferred to Retention immediately. The lady offered me the phone at $159 even though I am only 15 months into my contract.

Being polite will take you far in life. :D

I got a retentions plan as well, and I can get my iPhone for only about $70 with my Fido dollars, but was told that they just had 0 iPhones in stock, by two retentions officers and a CSR.

Believe me, I got quite the plan. They just have no phones to give me. :( I think perhaps they have some 32GBs, but it's more than I wanted to spend (would rather spend the extra cash on accessories)...

hmmm may be I just got real lucky then. I got my phone the next day after talking to Retentions.

I'm going to try calling Retentions directly and telling them my current phone is broken and that I need the phone and my renewal ASAP. At the very least hopefully they can hold an order for me!

But no way in hell am I heading out today to try to find one. I've got better things to do.

I went to the Eaton Centre store. I arrived at around 930 am and there was a good sized line up already, I was probably about 80th in line. The store was already open and they were processing people. I assume that this was because they had phones left over from Thursday. It seems that they got more phones than they could process for the day. At around 1000 am, they ran out of phones and they tell us that they didn't now if and when more phones would arrive. They tell us that once there are phones they would let us know and tell those of us in line who would be wasting their time by waiting. By around 1230 they come around and start counting people and asking what they want. Still at this point they wouldn't tell us that they actually had any phones, but they said that we had a "good chance" of getting a phone today. After doing this, later one they closed the back of the line. At that point anyone who wanted to stay longer would be taking a chance that either they would have run out of phones, or that they wouldn't be processed before the store closed. By around 4 pm, I was finally at the front of the line and into the store shortly after. The store was a mad house. They actually didn't have many of the staff working on phones sales that day. This is a major part of the hold up. As well, new activations take a long time because people have to look at the various options with each of the carriers and try to decide what they want. Upgrade renewals actually are the fastest and despite that, it still took about 20-30 mins of this to complete the sale and get out of the store with my working and activated iPhone 4.

Hope that helps.:apple:

Thanks a lot! This is such a frustrating process; I may try my luck this weekend... Also, somebody mentioned that they ordered their phone through Rogers... Is this possible/viable? (I understand that it would not be unlocked)

Has anyone try exchanging their phone due to a green/blue blob in the middle of photos? I was taking random photos and when I aim it to white surfaces. It has this green tint in the middle..

Anyone know when Rogers is going to restock the 16 gig (iPhone 4) model? My old plan expired so i'm going to get a new one, should I just call in and do it (is this possible?)?

No word yet on their redboard blog. They did mention to head to the Apple store to get it....

Keep bugging your local store to see.

Really??

Every time I call Rogers, it says "If you're calling about the new iPhone 4, press pound now." So I press pound, and then it says "Due to overwhelming demand for the iPhone 4 the Rogers Call Centres are currently out of stock."

Should I just be ignoring that message and press 2 for iPhone sales? lol

I'll be doing an upgrade, by the way.

I tried lining up twice last week during my week off from work. Both times they ran out of phones before they got to me lol.

Hmm... chances of getting one after work are slim because I finish work at 5. What about weekends? Has anyone successfully gotten a 32GB iPhone on the weekend in Toronto?
