So what would happen if Apple were to announce and release these devices in Canada and the other 17 countries BEFORE they were to announce a release date for the iOS update to fix the list of issues currently facing the iPhone 4?

There could very well be bad publicity for Apple, they will be releasing a product which is somewhat defective right when you turn it on.....

Sure Apple has alot of people who will still buy the device regardless of how many probs the thing has, but then you have people who will come after Apple just like they would any other company who releases a broken product and does nothing to fix it.

/sigh.... So while I still hope something is announced on Monday I would actually rather see an announcement on an iOS update to fix the numerous problems the iPhone 4 has... :(

Those are all non-issues.

If the iP4 only needs an OS update to fix the issues, then it's not really a "defective" product <fingers crossed>.

Its all behind the scenes... They prob added the iPhone 4 but its hidden until they announce it!

Hey I can dream right? :p

Hey everyone Draz was absolutely right. Robbers did have some hidden source code regarding the iPhone 4 launch.

Hidden they have 3 options once the customer enters their number...

1) eligible
2) not eligible
3 not eligible until xx xx 20xx

I read about this on iphoneincanada.ca credit to Chantelle

You know, it may sucks for you Canadians to have to wait but on the plus side, you can sell those unlocked iPhones to a TON of people in the U.S. at ridiculous markups! Lucky bastards... ;)

well no, not really. since they'll be easier to come by, the price won't be as much.

i hope the HUP pricing for the iP4 is reasonable this time around.

It should be the same $199 16gb and $299 32gb plus $35 activation.... Hopefully they have special pricing for those not eligible yet for a HUP. And you may be able to get the $35 waived if you call retentions after you get it :p

A Fido rep advised me I would not be charged an activation fee.

Edit: and I can use my Fido Dollars towards the upgrade price. 32GB for me!

What do you consider reasonable and how much did you pay last year? I got the 3gs for $299.00 because I was eligible.

I'm assuming you were under the early upgrade price? If you were under the early upgrade category, wouldn't that make you eligible this year? For me I'll be under the early upgrade category as its not been 2 full years for me. I'm hoping with all the other companies offering the phone they'll give it to me for no more than $499 for the 32gig

I'd take last years deal in a second. That's the only reason why I don't call in to bitch and complain about my $105 fixed cost every month. I would happily spend over $100 per month every month for the $500 subsidy every 12 months.

Same here, hoping for last years deal as well

I'm surprised there hasn't been an official announcement about the release date yet.

I'm not eligible for the $199/$299 pricing, (assuming last years deal). I would be able to get the 32GB for $549 assuming last years deal.

I kinda think that maybe this year the upgrade deal will be better because of so many carriers with the iPhone now, who knows maybe Rogers will give everyone a chance to upgrade at new customer pricing, $199/$299.

Gahhh Monday here we come. Please tell us on Monday, please!

I had one rep tell me $249 for 16gb and then all of a sudden they started telling me it was $449. Suffice to I ordered it for $449 and got $200 credit after having them go back and check the calls

Hey guys, I'm inheriting my fathers iPhone 2G (lol, I'm happy to take it!) after he upgraded to iPhone 4, I live in Halifax he lives in the states. I realize I'll have to unlock the iPhone for it to work up here but I was wondering if my choice of carrier is limited to rogers/fido (GSM). I know Bell and Telus offer the iPhone but I'm guessing it's a CDMA version? or does Bell and Telus piggyback off of rogers GSM network?

Any first hand advice as to which plan/carrier I should get/go with? Believe it or not but I haven't owned a mobile phone for 9 years so I'm a bit out of the game.

Thanks!

Well its up but I cant view any source code using Opera Mini but I bet that they went over their code and removed iPhone 4 references they didnt want us to find.... Like the hidden upgrade thing found yesterday.

Announcement pls! Yes it is a weekend but still!

I'm on the homepage and when you click on the first slide to come up, New Smartphones with Social View, it takes you to the iP4 Registration page. Weird.

Bell and Telus is 3G GSM only so the iPhone 2G does not work with them.... Have to use Rogers/Fido

Bell Telus Rogers and all their brands sell the same iPhones now so if you get a new one it is 3G and works with either one when unlocked
Bell and Telus still sell CDMA phones but they also have 3G GSM (aka UMTS or HSPA) phones too.

I spoke to a Fido rep yesterday to find out some general details about upgrading. Their system allows anyone who is within 14 months of the end of their contract to upgrade at the new user price. There is a big downside to Fido though; if you upgrade any time left on your contract will be added to your new contract.

So; in my (and many others I'd guess) case. I have 12 months left on my Fido contract. I can upgrade to the iPhone 4 with the new user price however those 12 months will be added to my new 36 months contract giving me a 48 month contract. Again, a four year contract. Under the existing rules I wouldn't be able to get a new upgrade for three years.

I thought about buying an unlocked one but I've got a good deal on my plan (6gb + 200 minutes + early evenings for $52) so I figured if the 32GB is $799 ($900 with HST) then I would need to recover $14 a month over four years to make it cheaper than biting the bullet.

What a crappy deal eh? That said; the guy on the phone was great, really helpful.

Oh; and they said they're unlikely to be dealing with upgrades over the phone; it'll either be in a store or online.
