I have a feeling this years Canadian launch will be the biggest so far! In saying that I'm hoping Rogers allows preordering via phone/net and delivers to homes as to avoid the massive lines.

actually, they changed the terms to HUP.

you can no longer HUP over the phone. they can give you pricing, but you can't actually make an order :mad:

you gotta do it at a Rogers store or online.

In addition, I'm sure most have seen the "upgrade to iPhone" as an option on their account for the last year or so. When you click it you're told you are/might be eligible for a 16/32GB 3GS. I was told in a casual conversation that's a massive headache for Rogers employees because it's a blanket statement. People who aren't even eligible are told they are, go to get one and get shot down. I'm really hoping Apple does pre-orders and sells the "SIM free" iPhone 4 online because I really don't want to deal with Rogers at launch again. It's always a mess and ends up taking hours (3G launch I was in line at 6, in store at 9, left at 12p.m. 3GS, in line at 8, in store at 10, left about 1p.m...), even if they can activate the damn thing. Even at the unsubsidized cost, if it means I don't have to wait in another line and hours for them to finally give up trying to activate in store (because we all know, we can't do it at home, the iTunes they run in store is magical!), then the device being unlocked it just a nice bonus :p

I showed up at 3:30 pm on launch day for the 3GS and was the first person in line to get an iPhone. Other people probably bought theirs earlier in the day but when I got there I was first in line and was in and out in about 40 minutes max. Phone activated and all.

But the iPhone 4 might be different, maybe it wont.

Right now I think the iPhone 4 launch may be similar to the 3GS. I think the delay has killed some of the initial buzz and unless the carriers and Apple churn out some major advertising in the next couple of week I think there's a chance the launch might not be as insane as the 3G launch. That's not saying the 3GS launch was poor, I'm fairly certain it did quite well here. I'm still convinced about 15mins after stores open Rogers systems will take a dive (at least Sales Central) for a few hours.

Yea its stupid. And if you are an Authorized Level 1 User on an account some Rogers stores wont let you do the upgrade. I suggest that if the account is under your parents name but you are listed that way you call around and check the store policy before lining up and told to get lost.... But nearly all stores will let an Authorized Level 1 User get an upgrade and as usual bring ID like a drivers license!

I had a two year old 3G that I just sold for $300. Do you think they will have an option to purchase for a specific amount and only have to add one year to your contract?

That I don't know. Last year was if you spent $100/month before taxes you were able to get the $199/$299 pricing, and if you weren't eligible for that offer, you were able to get them at $449/$549.

Who knows, maybe they will give everyone new customer pricing ($199/$299) because of all the carriers with the iPhone now and they want to keep customers. Maybe.

My feelings exactly. I am sure that Apple will let us pre order there sim free phone...but my guess is that Rogers will not be doing the pre orders. I am happy with my service that Rogers gives me but I don't feel it's fair to make us sign up for three long years to save a few hundred bucks.
 
I wouldn't hype yourselves up for tomorrow. There could be nothing tomorrow.

If tomorrow comes and go with no announcement, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. The only thing that is leading me to think there is a chance is the source code that appeared on the Rogers site over the weekend. Although, even then, how do we know that was even new? Either way, I look forward to another week of baseless rumors and getting my hopes up!

Not sure if this was already discussed or not, but at both Rogers and Telus, the SKU's for the 16GB and 32GB iPhone 3GS's have been discontinued. Rogers now only sells the 8GB, as well as Telus, along with some "refreshed" models (Telus only). Surely they can't go 2-3 weeks without being able to sell new 16GB iPhones?! Maybe the launch is sooner than we are anticipating.

That point is exactly why I believe the iPhone 4 has already been delayed in Canada. Apple never gave us a specific date. They blanketed the release with "by the end of July".
I believe originally Apple wanted to release it earlier in July, but with the problems with the white iPhone production, and the huge demand with the June launch, they had to push it back to the end of the month.
I have no proof of this - but would Apple really allow the carriers to run dry on stock and only have the 8gb 3GS? Oh wait - this is Canada we're talking about and there have been long running rumours of Apple's displeasure with Rogers.
I'm hopping there will be more news Monday.

So do you all think they'll have the white iPhone on launch day? It's not like I plan on going with the white but hopefully they will and that way it will free up more black models for the people who want black and are not just going to settle for it because the white is not available.

Guys I'm racking my mind on what case to get, I want a vertical leather case that tightly clips to my belt....any suggestions which company to check out? I've done many searches and have found nothing to exciting. Below is the case I use now...I love that case, I bought one for the 3G and then the 3GS, but seeing as the iPhone 4 is much slimmer I don't know if it would fit to loosely in there and might jump around a bit and not be so secure.

32GB white, here I come! The day just started, so relax, there's still time for an announcement ;).

Sorry, no suggestions on cases. I'd like to go with a custom gelaskin but I'm waiting for the issues with their current versions to be fixed before placing an order. Given the fragility of the i4, I'm also debating on getting some type of hardshell case but I haven't the foggiest on where to start.
 
Guys, a couple of questions:

1) I'm a T-Mobile USA customer and was interested in getting a Canadian unlocked iPhone 4. I know that the Apple.ca store does not allow shipments to addresses outside that country, so I was planning to order one on the apple.ca website and have it shipped to a friend in Toronto. Is this possible?

2) Also, if my friend turns around and ships it to me in the US, will he have to pay duty on it or just the flat shipping fee? If I have to pay duty in addition to the likely $649 cost, I know it can get expensive.

3) I do have a trip schedule to Montreal on 8/12. If it is out by then, can I just walk into an Apple store there and buy it outright without being a resident?
