What do you all think???

Will we receive the 2nd problem free batch or be stuck with the first come our launch day?

I know there has been anecdotal - and anecdotal is all there has been - information that certain changes have been made to the manufacturing process (coating/antenna insulation) but I cannot find anything of reasonable reliability to support this.

As far as I know, the early production runs are the same as the current ones.

I'm on the phone right now to Apple Canada and getting difficulty confirming whether wire transfers will be accepted even though it is stated clearly on their website.

For some reason they are saying only credit cards are accepted.

Most likely the same situation with (initially) buying a iPad 3G. The only payment method they were accepting was credit card. This was done to make sure individuals don't purchase above the limit of allowed iPad's per customer. I can see this being in full effect if/when Apple Canada offers the SIM Free iPhone 4's. Theoretically, a credit card could/should be linked to your iTunes account, therefore they're able to keep track of your purchases. I only use one card for most things so my main CC is indeed linked with my iTunes Account, thus as soon as they swipe it my e-mail address and other info comes up (in store).

What fees are included when you buy the iPhone 4? Also would it be cheaper to buy it subsidized then cancel the contract, or to just buy at full price.
If you buy it unlocked then the price is still to be determined but it could be something like:
$699 + tax = $800 (about)

Getting it from Rogers LOCKED to a 3yr contract and then cancel after:
$199 + $35 + $25 + $100 + tax = $$$

$199 - iPhone 4 price locked to 3yrs
$35 - Activation fee
$25 - If you have no data plan then you pay for 1month of 500mb data
$100 - Cancellation fee
-------
$359 + tax (which brings the price to just over $400 and the phone is still locked. If you have a data plan already then subtract $25... so $334 + tax = $380 (about)

Price varies depending on the sales tax in your province.

It also kinda sucks that we don't get the free bumpers...but at the same time maybe that means that we will be getting a better batch of phones so there's no need for free bumpers.
We should get the 'fixed' batch (not sure what batch# we are currently on), which could be out right now in the US as I have read of several folks who had zero probs with their replacement they received in the past few days/week

only $99 cancelling fee???!! i wish!

the max they can charge for voice plan is $420. $100 is just for data cancellation

EDIT: ok yea you only added the data cancellation fee, and forgot the voice plan cancellation

So far, the rumor mill is churning out:

$699 for 16GB
$799 for 32GB

Although, I would expect it to be more like:

$649 for 16GB
$749 for 32GB

This based on previous pricing from Apple and the current $549 for the 8GB 3GS. There is no HST on cell phones (or smart phones for that matter), so GST (5%) and PST (8%) apply (13%). So the final figures should be somewhere in the range of:

16GB: ~$733.37 - 789.86
32GB: ~$846.37 - 918.87

This all based on Ontario taxes. Forgive me if my math is off, it's not my strongest ability. I'd prefer the $749 pricing...not a big different but $900+ will just sting a bit more in the checkout process if Apple offers the sim free iPhone 4.

I believe it's $20 a month for each remaining month of your contract, up to $400, whichever is greater. An additional $100 is required to cancel the data plan. I'm not sure if this is up to date but that's the last I was informed of.

[I wish RBC had a banking app. I've been using the iPhone's browser.

Looking on the iTunes store, I see a couple of ATM finders but no official app from them.[/QUOTE]

It's coming soon!

Hey, can someone help me with something basic on the current iPhone plans from Bell? I realize the plans might change with the new iphone... but:

Bell has the $50 monthly fee, but it says to get Call Display I need to pay $40/m extra for some stupid combo pack? Is this reality or is there another way to get Call Display without paying $90/m. I'm happy to pay $50/m + $x for call display.

My phone is almost 6 years old so maybe im coming from a new era. Do we even need call display nowadays?

Thanks in advanced.

Question: If I buy an unlocked iPhone from Apple, can I just go to a Rogers store, pick up a microsim and have them seamlessly activate it on my existing account? Will I have to pay any fees? Will I have to extend or change my current contract/plan?

I'm new to this whole iPhone thing and I'm on Rogers. But I do want to get the iPhone 4. And I want it on Launch day.

So as of right now my plan is a non-iphone plan, non-data plan. Can I lineup at a Rogers store on the 30th and get the iPhone, a new mini-sim (since i have a normal sized sim) and data added on that same day and walk out talking on my new iPhone 4? And typically what are Rogers store line-ups like?

Does anyone know if Rogers will have any data promotions like they usually do around iPhone launches? I know they've had 6 GB previously, and I doubt they will do that again, since AT&T went rogue, but even 2GB would be a farcry better than 500MB?

Also has Rogers provided the opportunity to Pre-order before and if so how does that work?

Sorry for all the questions, but I would really appreciate some insight as I have none >_<

If you have a data plan on your account already (non-blackberry data plan) then all you need to do is buy a microsim from Rogers and have them activate that sim on your account. There are no fees for that process, but the sim is $10 to purchase. Your contract remains the same.

Upgrades depend on how far into your current contract you are, and the type of phone you're currently using. At one year into your contract you can upgrade to a non-smart phone for the subsidized pricing, at two years you're eligible to upgrade to any phone at the subsidized pricing. Rogers extended the 6GB/$30 when the 3GS came out so it's not out of the question bringing it back this year. However, as of yet, no carrier has announced new plans or packages specific to the launch of the iPhone 4. Rogers (or any other carrier in Canada) has never offered pre-orders on the iPhone and it won't be any different this time around. In the event we are able to pre-order the phone at all in Canada, it will be through Apple's site for the sim-free device. However, if pre-orders do not begin Monday/Tuesday, I think any chance of pre-ordering will be squashed.

Not huge news, but Bell has the July 30th date on their website.

Indeed, added it late yesterday afternoon. Surprisingly or not, none of the other carriers followed suite. Given Rogers's history, I'd expect them to be the last of the carriers to announce their pricing and plans.

I think they didn't know what the policy was as they back tracked on the no wire transfer statement after I showed them Apple's acceptance of wire transfers on their own website.

I don't think the credit card is linked to an itunes account as I was able order an ipod touch as a gift over the phone without anyone asking about my itunes account.

I have a feeling that we won't even be able to pre-order the sim free iPhone with Apple online. Just a gut feeling. We should hear something on Monday.

I expect we will hear more news Monday. I mean Apple hasn't even updated its own website to add July 30th availability or mention pricing. Apple will probably update the site late Sunday night.

Sorry... Where did you hear that we won't get free bumpers? Steve said until Sep 30, and made no mention of it being US only.

Unless you just mean that they're out of stock right now, but I still think we will be eligible for a free case from available options.

Are you sure? iPhoneInCanada posted this from the Q&A

Stokes from Ars Technica: Will the free case offer extend outside the US?
Jobs: Yes, it’s international.

Sorry for the wrong information everyone. I am pretty sure I read that on one of the many sites I visit daily.

Anyhow, thanks for the correction....and go Canada go!

So...

Tomorrow for pricing and HUP info from Rogers?

I'd like to think so. Come on Rogers, it will only be 11 days from launch come tomorrow.

Please!

you sir are dreaming.

you missed the $400 cancellation fee.

it's $100 to cancel data.

so it would be $500 to cancel it altogether. you think they're stupid? (just curious)

I'd love to see that. Rumors on some sites were that Apple was to begin pre-ordering Monday but I just don't see that happening.

We do have all this week though if pre-orders were to be offered and be shipped in time for July 30th. At least an official confirmation that no pre-orders will be offered will be nice, even though some people say the call centers are telling everyone no pre-orders...

Hopefully we hear something from all 3 carriers (including Apple) this week regarding pricing and pre-order info... We need to know:

-Unlocked pricing from Apple
-Confirmation on pricing of $199 16gb / $299 32gb for locked 3yr contracts
-Early upgrade pricing for those < 2yrs into their contracts
-Special data plans (6gb/$30 or 5gb/$35)
-Pre-order info, or an official statement that there will be none
-New iPhone specific voice/data plans

Just under 12 days left... c'mon Apple, Bell, Telus, and Rogers... lets hear what you got to say for yourselves!

I mis-read the original question as just cancelling data :p
But yes you are right add on the $400 voice cancellation, $100 for the data, $199 for the phone, and the 1 month monthly fees, plus taxes and your somewhere close to $1000.

And no i don't think they are stupid

Monday! Think positive!

I'm hearing lots of rumors from people who've called Rogers, Telus and Bell that there will be no pre-order option. It'll be first come first serve at the stores the day of launch.
The only place you may be able to pre-order will be the Apple online store. And that would be for the unlocked version only. And there is still no confirmation of pre-orders yet from Apple. I would have thought they would have said starting Monday you can pre-order.
Now it's wait and see again.

I went into a local Telus store and they said they are taking deposits for pre orders, they just aren't advertising it. I think I am likely to buy one off the online store outright though, I am sick of being stuck on eternal contracts lusting for new phones and being stuck. Not that I have any complaints with Telus, they have always been fair with me.

The future is friendly....

Just a word of caution...don't get your hopes up. Around the launch of the 3G, many Rogers' stores were taking pre-orders. However, two days before launch they were instructed to call customers and essentially cancel their pre-orders. It would be nice to hear Telus is offering pre-orders though, might inspire the other carriers to follow suit. I didn't have to worry about the 3GS last year but this year might be very different.

Yeah that's good advice. I am COMPLETELY TORN between wanting the iPhone 4 as it is now, and the speculation of September. I heard that their financial quarter ends in September. I also wonder if they have a modification in mind for that time. I mean really, it's only 2 months to wait and if something just a bit better comes out, I would be pissed that I got grabby for the NOW moment rather than waiting. Besides, by September I will readily have a choice of White or Black easily I suspect....

I just don't know...

Well if it really bothers you to wait, or if you just can't decide, you can always sell it in 2 months if you really want to. That is IF(!!!) there is a hardware update. There is a good chance that Apple won't do anything about it until the next iPhone in 2011, so you would have been without one for 2 months and waited all that time for nothing.
