Well if it really bothers you to wait, or if you just can't decide, you can always sell it in 2 months if you really want to. That is IF(!!!) there is a hardware update. There is a good chance that Apple won't do anything about it until the next iPhone in 2011, so you would have been without one for 2 months and waited all that time for nothing.

Haha I know!! It's gently killing me. My roommate recommends waiting, and she is usually correct or at least more patient than I. My BB works fine, data plan and monthly cost is less, but I HATE surfing with it or having to go online at all (phone is not compatable with the new Bell/Telus HSPA network).

Oh the dilemma!! I have gone through 2 cell phones I haven't been completely happy with, I don't want this to be a 3rd one although I have wanted an Apple iPhone forever :D

I have a solution. Buy the iPhone 4 and never look back.:D You will not regret it, trust me. I had a 3GS that I sold because I am going to get an iPhone 4, and it's been brutal being without it, 17 days it's been now.

I can't wait to get my hands on an iPhone 4.

I agree just get the phone and don't look back. What if September comes around and all Apple does is sell the thing with a case inside the box? What's the point of waited the 2 months for nothing....

Just get it!

hi so ive been with rogers for 5 years and have never done a hardware upgrade but i am eligible. I have all my services with rogers and im planning on buying the new iphone 4 and my contract ends in may 2011 so less then a year. i want to get a retention plan but have no idea what to say or where to start. I want to play $50 dollars and have unlimited text, caller id, and 1 gb of data. is this possible? also i am currently using a bb 8100 so would i have to get this plan before i upgrade to the iphone. Also i am on a family plan so would i have to get off that to be able to get a retnetion plan and also will this effect my hardware upgrade?

Changing your plan does not effect your ability to get a hardware upgrade.

Also it could be possible to get what you want. As you have been with them for 5 years you should be able to get something out of it. Say that you want to get the new iPhone 4 and are looking at various options.
The regular person might not be able to assist you but if that person isn't giving what you want then ask to speak to someone higher then that person will give you what you want or at least offer a compromise.
You have a family plan? Are you looking to break that up? Perhaps you might be able to get one of the regular family plans with stuff like caller id thrown in for all lines. The 1gb data might be a challenge to get at a discount. But you could take the shared 1gb family plan for $100/mo and choose the unlimited text option and get caller id thrown in.

So that works out to just over $50 per line and you get what you want.... but with 1gb shared instead of for yourself.

if i leave my family plan does that restart my 3 years contract also if i leave the family plan does that effect my hardware eligibility

That would be considered changing your plan and no that does not effect your ability to get a hardware upgrade. But the hardware upgrade does extend your contract for 3yrs from the day you get the new phone.

Just don't cancel your service and you are good to go.

*edit* you might be able to get what you want for cheaper than $50 give retentions a call as some people there can do fantastic things for you. Remind them of the value packs as those contain caller id and text msgs, you may be able to get them at a discount or thrown in free.

should i call retentions before i upgrade and restart my contract or should i call them before i upgrade to the iphone?

Are there any companies that sell insurance for the iPhone in Canada? All the companies like SquareTrade and such seem to be only for US residents.

Call them before and tell them you want to change your phone from a BlackBerry to an iPhone 4 when it comes out

I haven't been able to find any.

Any words on when Pre-Order option will be up on Apple Canada

Do Pre-Orders start July 3oth or does the phone come out that day and pre-orders should be some time this week?

The phone comes out on July 30th for everyone to buy.

Pre-order info has not been released i've read that the the call centers are telling everyone no pre-orders, but we need confirmation that there will be no pre-orders. Maybe Apple might be the only one with pre-orders? Not sure..

If anything... pre-orders should be sometime this week, so we have to keep our eye out to the various forums and sites. If by Friday nothing has been said then we can assume there will be no pre-orders and we should be lining up on July 30th at our store of choice for the iPhone 4.

I was just thinking - what do you think the odds are (at least for the first few weeks while supplies will be limited) that the Apple Stores themselves will only sell the unlocked full price phones, and not offer the carrier locked phones?
That would leave those wanting the carrier locked phones to have to get them at their wireless stores.
I just have to wonder because we so many carriers, that at launch Apple will say we don't have the supply or resources to offer the carrier locked phones until the demand dies down a little and we get more supply.
Just something I was thinking about. Thoughts? Am I crazy?

Very valid point. But this week should be interesting on what is to come...
Apple does have the power to sign someone up to any of their carriers. They could easily screw us and just sell full priced unlocked and send everyone who wants the subsidized one to their own carriers store...

Hey it could happen you know =)

what exactly should i say to retentions?
"Hi there, I'm looking to get an iPhone 4 when it comes out and want to change my plan" if they offer you the same prices as what you see on www.rogers.com tell them that is too much and ask to speak to retentions.

If there were any type of exclusivity window, I would be willing to bet it would be the other way around (carriers first). Given that Bell has already announced they're carrying the phone on the 30th, The chances of this happening are most likely non-existent.

Does Apple lock the iPhone to the carrier you choose when you purchase the iPhone, or do they come right from the factory locked to a specific carrier with that carrier's SIM card pre-installed?

Wow we're literally almost in the exact same boat. But go right ahead and call Rogers. I called them regarding to opt out of my family plan to get on an iPhone plan last week before we even knew when it was coming and they upgraded a bunch of things for me for free, like 2500 texts a month from 100 for free and waived the early evening fee to get free 6pm evenings while remaining on the same family plan and told me that when they announce the iPhone to call them back, which I haven't done yet, since Rogers hasn't announced any plans, but I will be doing this tomorrow, regardless.

That is what i've been trying to figure out for weeks now.... Some say they get a stockpile of unlocked phones and lock them at time of purchase, because they can. But all this stuff should be more clearer this week or next.

From what I understand the carrier lock is set during activation. Theorhetically it has been stated that Canadian iPhones starting with the 3GS are unlocked until then. However, they do ship with carrier specific sim cards so there must be some production process going on in relation to carriers.

Start the call by telling the rep you were thinking of canceling you contract as you got a better offer from ____(Bell, telus, wind etc.)
They will ask what kind of offer- here you tell them what you want and for how much.

The typical rep won't be able to do any thing, so they will transfer you to the cancelation/retentions department so they can try and get something that works for you, and so they can keep you as a customer.

I went through this the other day (with Fido), I told them I want to upgrade to the iPhone 4 when it comes out so they just gave me the offer and I just call back the day of/day before of the when I go get the iPhone and they will switch my plan over.

I ended up getting:
200 minutes
Evenings and weekends starting at 5pm
2500 text messages
Caller ID
Voicemail
6gb of data (don't think you can get this any more as I had this from the iPhone 3G launch)
All for 55 dollars (or was it 50? dont remember).. No system access fee or 911 fees.

For what you want, you should be able to get it for around 30-35 dollars. I remember there being a retentions plan with 200min+5pm evenings and weekends+1gb data for really cheap.

Just make sure you come off like you are willing to cancel. All the major carriers will be gettings the iPhone 4 and they know this.

IF after your call you can't get something you are happy with just tell them you will think about it. Then call back and start over.

thank you so much for your help ill be calling rogers tomorrow. is there anything else that you think i should ask for?

That makes sense from an inventory management standpoint. If the iPhone's were shipped locked from the factory, Apple would have to manage 20 different iPhone models... 4 carriers and unlocked x 2 capacities x 2 colors. It would be very difficult for Apple to predict how many of each to stock for launch day and even more difficult for a customer to get the one he wants unless he gets in line really early.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (iPhone; Opera Mini/5.0.019802/19.836; U; en) Presto/2.5.25)

Alright it is Monday.... Lets hear some info Apple, Rogers, Bell, and Telus!

Yes that's right the waiting game again :p
