do you think that we will be able to do a hardware upgrade for the iphone 4

Well, for me, I'm not sure if I'll be able to upgrade without shelling out lots of dough. Got my 3G in April of 2009, about 16 months ago give or take.

My 3G is now water damaged so I'm really feeling the need to upgrade.

I don't want to change my 60$ iPhone plan or sign on for another 3 yrs so I just might go unlocked. This way I can hopefully collect on the resale and upgrade again.

A pre-order would be nice. This way I could have shipped to the office :)

If it's been 24 months since your last smartphone upgrade then you should definitely be eligible. Of course this also assumes you have a voice and data plan as well.

Rogers is just trying to keep quiet and release something with a bang.
Although this isn't official but I'm going to say that yes we can upgrade to the iPhone 4 is you are 2 yrs into your contract for the listed price of $199 + $35 activation fee. This doesn't change

You MUST have a data plan if you don't then you need to subscribe to one for at least a minimum $25/month, you can cancel your data plan after the 1st month and pay a $100 data cancellation fee.

We still need to know the following:
-Unlocked pricing from Apple
-Confirmation on pricing of $199 16gb / $299 32gb for locked 3yr contracts
-Early upgrade pricing for those < 2yrs into their contracts
-Special data plans (6gb/$30 or 5gb/$35)
-Pre-order info, or an official statement that there will be none
-New iPhone specific voice/data plans

So even if you cancel after an hour or a day do you still have to pay for 1 month of data? Or is the price and usage pro-rated for how many days you keep the data?]

If it's the former then I would keep for just under a month, then cancel....unless that would incur charges for 2 months!

edit: OK I re-read and it says you can cancel AFTER the first month. Lame.

I find it highly amusing that Rogers/Fido are telling their reps not to "speculate" on the release date. THIS is why they come off looking completely clueless because Rogers, like Apple, insists on this bizarre cloak and dagger routine.

I don't really know if it is pro-rated, and it isn't stated this in the fine print about the DECF (data early cancellation fee). But if you were to use it for a month you can call anytime during that month and the rep will slap on an automatic removal at the end of your month so you won't be charged for a 2nd month. This results in a nice clean bill the next month without the hassle of possible partial charges.

*edit* i just read your edit.. and you found it before I did :p

Man....

Leave it to Rogers to wait and wait. Come on Rogers!!!!! Only 11 more days and still no information!

There is SO much hate towards Rogers?!!?? Rogers is NOT the only provider:
Rogers Wireless
Telus Mobility
Bell Mobility
Virgin Wireless (via MMNO over Bell/Telus)

The pricing for so many pages quoted, $799, is a USA currency price and give or take $15-75 before taxes (don't forget the HST in Ontario now) should be about right. For ANY of the providers or Apple Canada Inc to go above and beyond will ONLY hurt their own sales - the direct sales which the report to analysts and even the TSE/NYSE/etc.

Be patient and we'll figure this out.

There's no HST on cell phones/smart phones, tax on mobile devices remains at GST and PST (13%) in Ontario. The $749/799 is most likely the Canadian pricing as the U.S pricing is 699 (32GB). Traditionally Apple has added $49 to the unsubsidized cost of the iPhone in Canada as well as many other devices. I believe the iPhone in Canada blog is the one responsible for floating around the higher $699/799 pricing, we'll see how that turns out. I don't think many people are concerned about what pricing will be, I highly doubt it will be changed from the 3G/3GS launches and remain the same as the U.S pricing on contract. I think people are more curious about HUP pricing and sim-free prices from Apple.

Hey for the iPhone does the "you can return the iPhone 4 free of charge" apply to Canadians as well or only for the US?
Do Canadians also get free bumpers?

The carriers have not stated anything about that return policy. As it stands now, Rogers return policy is 15 days or 30 mins. Not sure about Bell and Telus but I bet it is somewhere just around that number and not the 30 days like AT&T/Apple US is.

And yes we get free bumpers/cases as well.

I work a day shift on the 30th so I'll be out of there by 3pm. I'll head to Fairview and if they have the phone I want, awesome. If not, oh well, waited this long...

Cross your fingers and toes and speed your way through traffic or hope the subway is not delayed and you might.... just might be able to get one at 3pm :p

No, no, I meant that I re-read your post, not the DECF fine print. I really should read it, i'm going to see if I can find it and report back. If it doesn't say anything about 1 month minimum, they hopefully won't enforce it. But I've learned that things are rarely as they seem with the big 3 anyway. I mean you'd think we would have info on pricing and HUP eligibility by now but....

edit: According to http://www.rogers.com/cms/html/iphone_terms.shtml , there is nothing written about a minimum period you have to keep data before you can cancel it for $100+tax. It talks about the iPhone 3G, but the section under "data usage" explaining the data day pass seems to be a recent development, indicating that Rogers keeps this page up-to-date.

Whatever, if they're gonna screw me they're gonna screw me no matter what.

Just got off the phone from a Fido rep earlier...so I was told this year they don't do pre-order thru the phone so I have to pre-order it at a retail store. The guys said "this year" so does that mean previous years we're allow to pre-order iPhone just by calling them to place an order then they'll mail the phone to us?

99% of the time reps have no idea what they're talking about. There has never been an "official" pre-order in Canada for the iPhone whether through the carriers or Apple. Some stores may have done so against policy but that wasn't common.

I do not think that we will see any pre orders from Apple. But I think that the hold up on Apples site has to do with the free cases. I think that they are working out the final details on there free case offer.

I think it's fairly safe to say we won't be able to pre-order from Apple, however, I would hope it has nothing to do with the case offer. I'm puzzled at how they can do pre-orders for so many huge countries like they did at launch and yet can't for Canada.

Sweet. Thanks for the update. This horrible 2nd time around experience for 3GS I'm going through is leading me to get iPhone 4 but I'm so cautious now I don't care if its released in September. At least it'll give me some time, hopefully, to evaluate a BB 9800 Slider vs iPhone 4 - apps I know - but an easy SIM unlocked & working phone to USE THOSE APPS would seriously brighten my day. Right now I have an expensive iPod Touch with a non-working 3G radio due to SIM card locked.

Well I just noticed this... Both France and UK sites only sell unlocked iPhone 3GS and 4 for the following prices:

France:
iPhone 3GS 8gb € 519.00
iPhone 4 16gb € 629
iPhone 4 32gb € 739

UK:
iPhone 3GS 8gb £419
iPhone 4 16gb £499
iPhone 4 32gb £599

Now considering that Apple Canada sells the 3GS for $549 shall we speculate that these are the prices:

iPhone 3GS 8gb $549.00
iPhone 4 16gb $629 - $659
iPhone 4 32gb $739 - $769

Obviously we get the better deal when it comes to exchange rates but that wasn't what I was looking at. I don't think it would be $699, but in a range of $629 -> $659 would be ideal.

And I am going to say there is no way Apple will sell the iPhone 4 locked to any carrier. The UK and France sites only sell unlocked phones. So I expect this would be the case for Canada.

Rogers store here I come!

Yes you are correct Apple Canada will ONLY sell unlocked iPhone 4's. And carriers will ONLY sell locked iPhone 4's

What Does July 30th Mean.

iPhone 4 Will Be Able to Be Pre-Ordered

Or

iPhone 4 Will Be Sold At Bell,Rogers Etc.

I have the same question... does anyone think the white iPhone 4 will be available at Canadian launch? Also, will there be any pre-orders/sign up sheets from either Apple or the carriers?

For those in Vancouver… where would you line up? Pacific Centre Apple Store, Oakridge Apple Store, or go to Future Shop/Telus Store?

Any feedback is very much appreciated!! ;)

I Live in Vancouver Too :)

I Plan To Go To a Bell Store (Oakridge Most Likely)
Cancel My Crap Samsung 530 (Olympic Phone :))
And Get My Self a Black 16GB iPhone 4 With a Zagg Invisible Shield Ready To Protect It
