But apple will most likley allow preorders from thier site IMO. Why wouldnt they?

carrier agreements, just because they sell the phones does not mean they carriers have to let them on there network.

im sure they came to an agreement to not allow preorders unless they all allow preorders.

I'll put my 3G on kijiji too. Checked it out this morning and a jailbreak 16g 3g goes for 250-300$. The only problem for me is not having a phone for a week! :D

Have an iP4...Got it in the UK.... and it's Great. It's faster than 3GS, and the visuals are as good as mentioned in the inital announcement.

With regards to the whole Antennea issue.... I haven't experienced any problems either in UK, or here while visiting. (I do have a case for it.... as I don't want it scratched after reading/seeing pics of such).

With regards to the phone being unlocked.... if it's like the UK... Unlocked means exactly that... "UNLOCKED". You will be able to swap SIM's as and when you choose. Bell to Rogers, vice versa, or to a foreign carrier when travelling. (My flatmate has an unlocked one, and has used foreign SIM's when travelled to France, Netherlands and Germany). Although, knowing how monopolistic the whole phone industry is in Canada (I grew up here, and still have family here, so I think it's safe to say that I know just how corrupt each telecom here is), who knows what sort of backroom dealings they might have.

Pre-orders started in UK 9 days prior to the offical launch date. I would safely say that if Pre-orders aren't announced by this 27th, it's unlikely there will be any pre-orders taken (especially with backlogs.).

To give a sense of backlogs.... I live in London... They launched the iP4 on the 24th. As of the 25th after they sold out of the second batch of iP4's, they started taking people's names down and added them to a Priority List whereby they'd give them a ring (in order) when the next shipment arrived and had a phone available to them. As of yesterday, there were still people waiting who had placed their name on the list (with 1800 after them). So.... it might be a lengthy wait.

Hope that sheds a bit of light on several iPhone 4 factors.

Could Be Somethin...could Be Nothin!!

I just logged onto Rogers.com and signed in with my user name. I went to the 'overview' section and selected 'upgrade to iphone'. Usually it takes you to a screen where it will only say, 'you may be eligible to upgrade to iPhone, check your local Rogers dealer for details'. This morning this option no longer works and it just refreshes the overview section.

Like I said could be nothing, but I thought I'd share anyways.

Try it out if you have an account and report back....

And for some reason it appears they have also shut down their Redboard so no one else can leave or reply to comments on the blog. hmmmm??

Sure are lots of Canucks here!! I'm one too!! But I live in Japan.

p.s. Vancouver is the BEST city in Canada bar none ;)

Do you think it would be the best city to go to an Apple store and order an iphone 4 in??? There are two stores in Vancouver. Do you recommend one over the other in terms of the rush for iphone launches?

Also remember that if you do not have a data plan you MUST get at least a $25 data plan in order to get the subsidized pricing. If you do not get a data plan you will have to pay full price.
Good luck!

Wait what?! I just negotiated my plan with Fido (contract was up last month) and they offered me a flex data plan starting at $10/mo for 100mb. They never said anything about not being able to get the renewal price for the iPhone if I took that plan. Is that only for people who want a HUP or does that include people who's contracts are up??

to get the maximum subsidy discount you have to have a qualifying voice/data plan. new activations or HUP
What plans qualify? I'm thinking of renewing my term, but I want to see if I can get a good voice/data combo plan from retentions.

IMO, Toronto > Vancouver. :D:D:D just kidding!

I could never live anywhere else than Toronto though, I love the Leafs to much to leave. Eventually, some day, they'll be good again!

Go Leafs Go!

I'm a die hard leaf fan too...but lets face it, we suck A$$!! lol

So in saying that....Go Leafs Go!!

Japan and France never had a preorder before this iphone 4 :)

Yep, we had an absolutely awful year (actually, couple of years), but with one or two more top 6 forwards, I think we could be in the top 5 teams in the Eastern Conference.

On topic: I will bet you guys an iTunes gift card that Rogers will not allow you to pre-order the iPhone 4. It sucks, I know. Last year I arrived at a Rogers Store at 3:30 am (opened at, I think, 9:30 am) and it poured the whole time. By the time I got one, I was really wet and cold! Let's hope for clear skys this time! :D

A Virgin Mobile rep said on Twitter that while Apple announced that they are releasing the iPhone 4 on the 30th, they (Virgin) still don't have a release date on their network. Damn them if it comes later!! I don't wanna change carrier but if it comes out a few weeks later I don't think I will wait for them.

Spoke with fido about my data plan and that's the first thing they told me on the chat:

"We currently do not have any details regarding the iPhone 4 for the moment other then the fact that we will be launching it on July 30th."

I just tried this out, and for one thing, in my overview section, there are 2 "Upgrade My iPhone" links; one right above the other. When I clicked the first one, I got the same result as you. When I clicked the second one, it took me to another page where I could select a new smartphone. However, the iPhone (any model) was not on the list. Only Blackberrys and such.

I'd never heard of the Redboard before, but I went and took a look. As far as I can tell, the comments section is still open, but they haven't posted an entry about the iP4, so there's nothing for us to comment on where this is concerned.

PS: Go Leafs Go!

Tomorrow until we run out of days and then the 30th is upon us.

Great. I'm going to call Fido and give them a piece of my mind about that tonight-I specifically said I was going to get an iPhone4 when it was released and was told nothing about qualifying data plans.

I'm still debating where to line up for the iPhone next Friday. I'm thinking of somewhere around the Coquitlam/Burnaby border (like around lougheed mall or something) instead of trying my luck downtown.

Me thinks you are giving our carriers too much control and power over the iPhone if what you say is true.
It's the other way around. Apple holds all the cards here. The carriers want the iPhone on their network because of popularity and bend over backwards to make it happen. They let Apple dictate pricing and do not get to put any of their branding on the phone. Apple is in complete control - except when it comes to plans.
So as far as the unlocked and pre-orders, it's all up to Apple and the carriers have no say.
