I just got off the phone with a very knowledgable Rogers CSR. Apparently they all had an update meeting earlier today regarding the iphone 4 launch.

There is no pricing update on it yet. However the good news is that all current smartphone users from Rogers will be eligible to upgrade to iphone 4 starting July 30th as long as you got your current smartphone prior to June 7th 2010. The price will be the exact same as what everyone else will be paying for it so no penalties to existing ubscribers. Usually the earliest you can upgrade your smart phone is every 2 years.

You will be able to place upgrade orders online, in store or via CSR agent.

At this time they dont have any updates on possible new promotional voice and data plans.

Goodluck guys!

Personally I smell BS.....sounds too good to be true.

It does sound too good to be true. But if Rogers wanted to stand out then they would do something just like this.

Bell and Telus, having come late to the iPhone game, doesn't have customers who are ready for the iPhone 4 upgrade. So they can do this too if they want, but Rogers should really do this early upgrade....

It can happen!

All along I've been thinking that Rogers is going to do something like this. Let everyone upgrade for new customer pricing or close to it, and make everyone happy and keep customers.

I'm not 100% expecting this, but it might happen. Only 8 days tomorrow.

Someone on the iPhone in Canada Blog forums posted that a Bell store received their iPhone's including white models already. I'm not surprised the shipping process has started but it's a but surprising that the individual stores are receiving them. If more stores get them I would expect some major chatter starting soon, especially if they hit Future Shop and Best Buy. I would be really curious to see if the phones are in their system yet and to see the break down on orders.

Do you have a link to that comment? I want to read on from where they posted that information re: Bell stores receiving iPhone 4's (including white models).

On one hand, it makes sense. However, Apple has clearly stated that every iPhone 4 they make at this point is sold, so what's the use in stockpiling them for a smaller (comparatively speaking) release that is in 8 days? They could use more of those days to ramp up further production for U.S. models...

On the other hand, they may be working on providing us with better availability than our American neighbours due to the less chaotic nature of this release...

Black or White?

So here's a question...

Now that our own iPhone 4 release coincides with the release of the white iPhone, who here is getting white? who is getting black?

I can't really decide. It's a tough one.

Excellent work everyone. This is going to be an interesting launch...and the first year that I've gotten really excited about getting the phone AS SOON as it becomes available. For the 3G and 3GS I waited months to upgrade.

I already have my case ready for the iPhone 4's body. Anyone else? I picked the CaseMate Gelli case.

Going black again this year - always stylish. The white looks a bit too "la-dee-dah".

I bought a limited edition vintage leather case from the SGP store + a wrapsol original + a couple of custom gelaskins. I'll be able to switch it up fairly often.

I hope we have bumpers available in Canada though. Is that highly unlikely?

Virgin Mobile has some nice plans with features that you actually need, like Caller ID, Voicemail or Unlimited Text and not silly things like Who Called or Call Forwarding.

Thier Student Plans are pretty solid as it has pretty much everything a student would need. And designed for smart phones and not dumbphones like the ones Rogers is offering.

Their 3G coverage is the same as Bell and Telus so its pretty good everywhere. Do give them a try.

"Your account" at telusmobility.com is down for upgrades....getting ready for pre-orders?

@ondre,

Goto Rogers store directly MicroSIM's are availble - Toronto try Adelaide & Bay. or Try Toronto headquarters (Jarvis/Mount Pleasant & Bloor).

I smell market driven!

Think about this.

Canada has some 36-70 million in population (all ages).
Of that about 25-35 million able to have contract for cellphones
Of that about only 20% have smartphones and another %10 looking at smarpthones.
Now with all the postive buzz surrounding Apple products and iPhone 4 - apps & features; How SCREWED would Rogers Wireless Be to limit users that upgrade in 2009 to any phone/smartphone NOT allowing them to upgrade to iPhone 4 for another 3yr contract extension - to which they can charge $400+$200 maximum for Voice Contract+Data Contract respectively?!?!!! How many users would walk within that 2 yrs and NOT have to pay that $400 maximum or that $200 maximum for existing 3yr contracts that are just 1-1.5yrs old?! How much CHURN would Rogers have to face and bare their naked stupidity against Rogers Communications Inc Investors for MISSING out on the years BIGGEST lucrative deals and subscriber growth and LOOSING it to the other 3 largest competitors: 2 of which have just as large a stronghold for bundling TV, Video Demand on TV services, and Home Phone services?!!

Rogers would be pretty STUPID to miss up on this deal of locking in new subscribers on the hottest smartphone of the year which KEEPS selling as long as there is stock as of 3GS! Rogers was already hurt with 16GB iPhone 3GS stock but didn't wine because Apple Store activations helped their bottom line and warehouse stock allowed for other devices to fill in spaces, less issues or OT paid to customer sales support staff for silly & useless customers calling in for upgrades or arguements to upgrade when they can be redirected to Apple Store staff - where oddly enough consumers don't act as annoying/rude/behave as stupidly.

I smell smart opportunity knocking and major marketing. Telus, Bell, Virgin Mobile and Rogers will ALL allow upgrades. IF not ... more than half of existing clients will simply pay outright for Apple native-SIM unlocked iPhone 4's who can change their price plans without forfeit and switch providers at end of contract this year, next or the year after when a better iPhone comes around where they CAN take advantage of HUP (Hardware UPgrades).

As an example look at how well the Bold 9700 initial contract pricing went, how quickly (less than 3mths of initial launch) it dropped to $149/3yr then back up to $199/249 thereafter before settling in.

Trust it.

IMO, Toronto > Vancouver. :D:D:D just kidding!

I could never live anywhere else than Toronto though, I love the Leafs to much to leave. Eventually, some day, they'll be good again!

Go Leafs Go!

Torontonian here and I can say I want 1ounce of what yer smoking! I'll never be depressed in my entire life again. To be honest Leaf's suck! new stadium still nothing. Sundin took 1 million less his 3rd year as captian (I think I don't follow hockey) and STILL they couldn't make it to the finals. Face it they suck, you love the team, you keep on hoping - if marriages that were on the rocks had that much faith marriage lawyers would have to goto school for another career. We both love this city; but Leafs suck. Ppl that don't even watch a hockey game for years nor even know any name of a player still on the team know that the Leaf's suck.

LOL, it’s a good thing I wasn’t drinking water, or I would have spit it out all over the screen! :D:D That is too funny!!

While you are absolutely correct, I will always hope and cheer (mainly because I could never cheer for a different team!). :)

P.S. I occasionally sniff :apple:, lol
:p

cool thats great Im a student so i should at least talk to em

The My Rogers portal was down for maintenance, it said try back at 6 AM.
So I did and now it's giving the "We are currently experiencing problems accessing your account..blah blah blah."

Could it mean something? Only time will tell.

If anything I expect Apple to close the Apple Store sites temporarily to make their necessary changes such as new pricing, cases and (no?) pre-order.

Hey, I'm planning on getting an iphone 4 on the 30th with a new plan from Telus. But I'll be working all day so, do you think my girlfriend can go get the Iphone for me in the morning? And when I get back from work I'll go deal with the people at Telus to get the plan I want.

What should I do? I really want to get it on the 30th!

This is the one of the stupidest posts. A simple google search shows Canada has 34 million population, not 36 to 70 million.

no you can't do that. she can put the account under her name, and then you can transfer the account to your name.

she can pick whatever plan, and you should be able to change it again over the phone.

Rogers allows you to add authorized users and they can get an upgrade on that line even if it is under another name.

Not sure if Telus alows this but give them a call. ALSO CALL YOUR STORE as not all stores will allow authorized users to upgrade

Ha! I haven't been to a Leafs game since they were at Maple Leaf Gardens.

Ok, so she has to buy an iphone with pretty much any plans then I can go back with the phone and change the plan and transfer it to my name right??

No need for that tone in here...the first part of his post may have been statistically incorrect, but the rest of his post was sound.

I actually quite enjoyed it.
