Ok everyone, you can all stop talking about your teams owning... we all know the Canucks are taking Stanley home this year!

Canucks will never win a cup with lolongo in net. " at least it wasn't 7 this time" - after being eliminated to the hawks.

^ sorry about all the hockey talk was catching up on a few days of pages.

Has anyone, prior to today, been able to reserve a purchase appointment at a Rogers Store or Apple Store online to purchase an iPhone?! I've noticed that with all Apple Store's in Toronto/GTA have the iPhone selection grayed out and I think the icon for the iPhone represents the iPhone 4 now.

For the heck of it I checked some other countries' Apple store sites getting iPhone 4 on July 30th.
I checked Australia and Luxembourg but didn't see anything useful, like ours.

Australia might be the one to keep an eye on since they're 14 hours ahead of us

Alright, so here is my story. Can anyone help?

So I have had my iPhone 3G for about 21 months. I have NO DATA PLAN. My monthly bill is around 50$ with Rogers. Will I be able to get the iPhone 4 for the $200 from Rogers on launch day?

My dad is telling me I have to wait 24 months (Sept/Oct) before upgrade, but I don't know how people upgrade iPhones every year if that's the case.

Also, will I need to add a data plan if I want the iPhone 4? I do want one, but would there be a problem if I want to add the data plan at the time of the purchase? I don't wanna get a data plan now, as I heard rumors about a special data deal for the iPhone 4.

Thanks to whoever can help!

You need a data plan for sure. You can cancel it after getting it and pay $100 ecf

And you're about 3 months away from your upgrade eligibility. Sometimes Rogers let it slide and will let you upgrade and I'm pretty sure they will have something for ppl who haven't reached their 24 month period. Will you get it for $200? Don't know for sure. Just wait and see, that's what we all are doing :)

So..anyone head over to Best Buy to see their selection of iPhone 4 cases? I have to say the last few weeks I've been impressed with some of the iPhone 3G/3GS cases they've started to bring in. I was there yesterday and didn't see a single iPhone 4 accessory or case. However, Future Shop had two silicone (I think? Either way, soft cases) Rocketfish cases (I think purple and black?). I already have the Switcheasy Nude, waiting on the IvySkin reception case to "ship" (sketch!). Now here's hoping stores get the damn phone on Friday...

Would there not be a 30 day (or 30mins of use) cancellation period? Although, I would assume the phone would have to back for that to work? Since there's no white I'm counting on a HUP for Rogers, hopefully they offer something similar to what AT&T did. Last year was a nice gesture but particularly painful when you are $5 away from $100, and near $200 overall on the account and aren't "qualified" for the early upgrade. At least that's what I was told, I got $200 off full retail, $549 for a 32GB 3GS last year and it counted as a HUP.

Sup people,

I notice alot of people from Toronto and around. I'm located at yonge and sheppard. There are a few rogers stores here but I wont wait here to get one. I'm going to be spending the night at my girlfriends house. There are TWO Rogers plus stores around her. One was mentioned here, which is at yorkmills and leslie area. And the second is a secret. I'm going to make my girlfriend wake up and go to the other one, while I go to the yorkmills one. If anyone is interested to meet around there for some coffee and chat. Let me know. I'm probably going around 6am or a little later.

CAN'T WAIT

Later,
AE

It does sound like you will be able to upgrade, with the purchase of a data plan.

We are not the experts in this thread however so you will still have to wait for the details to be confirmed! :)

I think you are referring to the data cancellation from my post. If so, data can be cancelled any time and you won't have to worry about returning the phone or what not. I think the 30 min/day applies if you want to return your phone

And wow they didn't give you the 3GS for $199/$299 cause you were only $5 below? That is such crap from robbers. I know a few ppl who were around $90 and they got it for $199/299. It's amazing how much ambiguity there is between different reps

Wow that sucks. Myself, I'm only like $4 bucks away from $100/mth and will go ape ***** if they don't let me have an early upgrade price considering I'm a 5 year customer.

On another note....who here plans on jailbreaking their iPhone 4 when the software is released??

I know I am for a couple reasons....sbsettings, SDM, iFile, iBlacklist and a couple more tweaks and mods.

I'm an avid jailbreaker but if I what I read was true about them being able to detect it remotely and void your warranty then I won't.

I had a warranty replacement earlier this year and I'm especially grateful for it.

No worries that rumor was total BS it's already been debunked.

Anyone know what the "kill switch" in sbsettings does? Is that so apple can't remotely wipe an app from your device?

As stated yes you can get the upgrade but you MUST sign up for a $25 data plan in order to get the subsidized pricing. Also your dad could be right as you can only get the subsidized upgrade pricing every 24months. But it does come up early so you may be able to get it on launch day but we are still waiting to see what happens.

Also you can sign up for the $25 data plan and cancel anytime during that month and the rep will remove it at the end of the billing cycle and place a $100 data early cancellation fee (DECF)

We are still waiting to hear on early upgrade pricing and also any special data plans. But best bet is to call customer care and see if you are eligible, if not then I would really wait the extra month and get the much cheaper price

OK sorry to muck up the thread further with this but we've got no news anyway:

If my billing cycle ends on the 3rd and begins on the 4th, could I add data on July 30 and cancel right away, only getting charged for about 4-5 days worth (so $5 rather than 25). Cause I keep reading/hearing (this forum and even from Rogers themselves) data cancellation either a) kicks in end of billing cycle or b) kicks in after 1 month. Which is it? Is the "1 month" just a generous estimate in case someone cancels data 2 days after their billing cycle begins?

They would charge you the full month if you were cancelling, not pro-rated. Sorry.

Hi,

so basically you want the subsidized phone but dont want to pay data and dont want to just buy it unsubsidized? so you are going to pay 149 for the 16gb according to rumored price. and you want to add the 500mb data for 25 dollars closer to the end of month and cancel it before your cylce ends (which is the 3rd) so they dont charge you for a whole month?

Well I know this depends on the rep. Some reps will just tell you to wait since you cylce is so close to ending (between july 30th and august 3rd) or they will make it start on the 30th and yes if then you cancel it before the bill closes, they will calculate the charge accordingly. I think they will charge you the whole amount for one month but credit you for the next. or something similar. Oh don't forget that you will be charged 100 dollars cancelation fee.

but yea i would give them a call and ask them. If you are lucky enough you might speak to a younger person who understands these tricks and don't really care and they will tell you if that works or not.

Later,
AE

It was a mess and very misleading on their part because there was no specific mention of "per line" in their communications. I was going by what their head of social networking was tweeting at the time. Needless to say, after spending an hour on hold with Rogers I was told it was per-line in addition to the supervisor having no idea who Keith McArthur was. This was all in addition to the random memos being released in a hurry on launch date, some of which were pretty amusing. Either way, launch day has always been a nightmare at Rogers and I don't expect to be any different this year. I just really hope they get their stuff together and don't pull any of this last minute (literally) details stuff again. It would really be nice to walk in and have things go smoothly for a change. Sales Central will go down Friday, I think that's obvious, but they should at least have something in place before that happens.

I was $3 short of the $100 a month when the 3GS was launches and Rogers would not budge and let me get the full subsidized price.
So we shall see this year, since Bell and Telus now have the iPhone.

I think $100 a month is ridiculous to pay for a phone.... If that was a long time customer who is on a retention plan that would be very very hard to reach.

I hope they reduce it to something at least more reasonable like $70 a month or $80.

It is not like they can cancel anyways they are still locked into contracts for another 2yrs (if they purchase the phone last year)... At least some reasonable minimum limit for the early upgrade pricing would be decent. That $100/month minimum last year was stupid and part of the reason why I didn't get a 3GS.

that is such ********. I hate how they do that. Some reps dont know what they are talking about and you shouldve just went to retentions and explain what they were doing was such BS. that being said 3G to 3GS upgrade wasnt worth giving up the HUP for

yea true $100 was too much but i guess thats how they could justify giving it for subsidized price only after a year into the 3G contract. Atleast they had an option, even thought at $450 it was high, for ppl who didnt had a $100 bill

im confused. i have been with rogers for 5 years my contract ends in may and im on a family plan with 2 other people since im going to get a new plan through retentions will i get the new iphone fully subsidized??

Changing your plan does not effect your ability to get an upgrade at the subsidized pricing, provided you haven't upgraded in the last 24months.

You can say that upgrades are on their own timer :p

Also remember that family plans allow each line to get an upgrade, however you will need to add a data plan to EACH line if you don't already have a shared data plan in order to get the subsidized pricing. So being in a family plan is no different than being on your own, each line is allowed an upgrade 24months after their last upgrade.

family plans can get subsidized price on only one line. So even though its true you can upgrade both lines, you can get subsidized price for only one

I'm hoping the fact that it has been more than year between releases this time (as opposed to the 3G-3GS release, ~11 months) that the early upgrade offers (if any) are a little more reasonable. I have two lines, one upgraded in April of 2009 (3G for my Mom) and the other on June 19th, 2009 (3GS), hopefully between one of those I'll be able to get something.
