Ok everyone, you can all stop talking about your teams owning... we all know the Canucks are taking Stanley home this year!
Canucks will never win a cup with lolongo in net. " at least it wasn't 7 this time" - after being eliminated to the hawks.

Alright, so here is my story. Can anyone help?
So I have had my iPhone 3G for about 21 months. I have NO DATA PLAN. My monthly bill is around 50$ with Rogers. Will I be able to get the iPhone 4 for the $200 from Rogers on launch day?
My dad is telling me I have to wait 24 months (Sept/Oct) before upgrade, but I don't know how people upgrade iPhones every year if that's the case.
Also, will I need to add a data plan if I want the iPhone 4? I do want one, but would there be a problem if I want to add the data plan at the time of the purchase? I don't wanna get a data plan now, as I heard rumors about a special data deal for the iPhone 4.
Thanks to whoever can help!
You need a data plan for sure. You can cancel it after getting it and pay $100 ecf
And you're about 3 months away from your upgrade eligibility. Sometimes Rogers let it slide and will let you upgrade and I'm pretty sure they will have something for ppl who haven't reached their 24 month period. Will you get it for $200? Don't know for sure. Just wait and see, that's what we all are doing![]()

Would there not be a 30 day (or 30mins of use) cancellation period? Although, I would assume the phone would have to back for that to work? Since there's no white I'm counting on a HUP for Rogers, hopefully they offer something similar to what AT&T did. Last year was a nice gesture but particularly painful when you are $5 away from $100, and near $200 overall on the account and aren't "qualified" for the early upgrade. At least that's what I was told, I got $200 off full retail, $549 for a 32GB 3GS last year and it counted as a HUP.
I think you are referring to the data cancellation from my post. If so, data can be cancelled any time and you won't have to worry about returning the phone or what not. I think the 30 min/day applies if you want to return your phone
And wow they didn't give you the 3GS for $199/$299 cause you were only $5 below? That is such crap from robbers. I know a few ppl who were around $90 and they got it for $199/299. It's amazing how much ambiguity there is between different reps
Wow that sucks. Myself, I'm only like $4 bucks away from $100/mth and will go ape ***** if they don't let me have an early upgrade price considering I'm a 5 year customer.
On another note....who here plans on jailbreaking their iPhone 4 when the software is released??
I know I am for a couple reasons....sbsettings, SDM, iFile, iBlacklist and a couple more tweaks and mods.
I'm an avid jailbreaker but if I what I read was true about them being able to detect it remotely and void your warranty then I won't.
I had a warranty replacement earlier this year and I'm especially grateful for it.
No worries that rumor was total BS it's already been debunked.
Anyone know what the "kill switch" in sbsettings does? Is that so apple can't remotely wipe an app from your device?

OK sorry to muck up the thread further with this but we've got no news anyway:As stated yes you can get the upgrade but you MUST sign up for a $25 data plan in order to get the subsidized pricing. Also your dad could be right as you can only get the subsidized upgrade pricing every 24months. But it does come up early so you may be able to get it on launch day but we are still waiting to see what happens.
Also you can sign up for the $25 data plan and cancel anytime during that month and the rep will remove it at the end of the billing cycle and place a $100 data early cancellation fee (DECF)
We are still waiting to hear on early upgrade pricing and also any special data plans. But best bet is to call customer care and see if you are eligible, if not then I would really wait the extra month and get the much cheaper price
OK sorry to muck up the thread further with this but we've got no news anyway:
If my billing cycle ends on the 3rd and begins on the 4th, could I add data on July 30 and cancel right away, only getting charged for about 4-5 days worth (so $5 rather than 25). Cause I keep reading/hearing (this forum and even from Rogers themselves) data cancellation either a) kicks in end of billing cycle or b) kicks in after 1 month. Which is it? Is the "1 month" just a generous estimate in case someone cancels data 2 days after their billing cycle begins?

that is such ********. I hate how they do that. Some reps dont know what they are talking about and you shouldve just went to retentions and explain what they were doing was such BS. that being said 3G to 3GS upgrade wasnt worth giving up the HUP forI was $3 short of the $100 a month when the 3GS was launches and Rogers would not budge and let me get the full subsidized price.
So we shall see this year, since Bell and Telus now have the iPhone.
yea true $100 was too much but i guess thats how they could justify giving it for subsidized price only after a year into the 3G contract. Atleast they had an option, even thought at $450 it was high, for ppl who didnt had a $100 billI think $100 a month is ridiculous to pay for a phone.... If that was a long time customer who is on a retention plan that would be very very hard to reach.
I hope they reduce it to something at least more reasonable like $70 a month or $80.
It is not like they can cancel anyways they are still locked into contracts for another 2yrs (if they purchase the phone last year)... At least some reasonable minimum limit for the early upgrade pricing would be decent. That $100/month minimum last year was stupid and part of the reason why I didn't get a 3GS.
Also remember that family plans allow each line to get an upgrade, however you will need to add a data plan to EACH line if you don't already have a shared data plan in order to get the subsidized pricing. So being in a family plan is no different than being on your own, each line is allowed an upgrade 24months after their last upgrade.
