So I'm getting an iPhone 4 on Friday regardless of what I have to pay for it but I have a couple questions.

1. Bought my iPhone 3G June 11th, 2009 from Fido. Any chance in hell I'll get the subsidized price for an iPhone 4?

2. If not, my girlfriend wants an iPhone as well but doesn't like how the iPhone 4 looks wants my 3G when I upgrade. She doesn't have a plan with Fido so could she buy the new one at a subsidized price, and then we exchange SIM cards? Would Fido replace our SIM cards for us giving me a new micro sim and her a new regular sim? Or would i have to cut mine and her have to use a tray?

3. I got the promotional 6GB/$30 plan last year, will Fido try to con me into a new data plan if they don't do the same this year?

4. I'm working in Tobermory for the summer and will have to go to Owen Sound to buy the phone. Where should I go? Or is has no one heard of Tobermory/Owen Sound? lol

1. Doubt it. Only if your monthly bill is expensive.

2. Yep (at least with Rogers). Last year, I swapped my mother's new 3Gs for my old 3G. It's as easy as swapping sim cards!

3. They shouldn't, but they might try. If they try, just refuse. They can't force you to change contracts.

4. Sorry, never heard of those towns... :)

Hope that helps!

1. We will hopefully see by Wednesday or Thursday, if not then no

2. Explain to the rep what you want to do and maybe they can help you out. But if they can't do anything or if the rep doesn't have any spare sims available (which they should have) then just get a tray and use it that way

3. Once you have it then it won't be removed so no cons involved

4. Looks like you'll need to take a road trip to get that iPhone lol

$25 Voice $30 data enough? I doubt it, and that's what I figured. Never hurts to hope though.

It'll be different this year though cause of the sim vs. micro sim. Will that make a difference to Fido? Or will they just give us each a new sim?

And ya I figured as much lol. I'm hoping that plays in my favour though and not against it. Hopefully Apple doesn't forget about us small town folk. lol

Ok sounds good. Thanks!
And ya lol. Not that bad though, just an hour and 15 minute drive. And if my girlfriend drives we'll be there in 45 minutes lol.

No word yet, but the wording used on their websites indicates locked.

But we will see what happens when it gets released.

Last I heard it was only dependent on if you had a data plan and not the total cost of your services.

So a $55 plan should be fine

Well that would be ideal. If I can upgrade at a subsidy then my girlfriend can get a new 3GS cheap instead of my 3G.

this info is not true. a $55 plan will not get you the subsidized price for iphone 4. last year was $100 and its probably going to be the same. Data is a must with any smartphones so that doesnt affect anything excect the fact that you must get one in order to get an smartphone.

going by last years pricing, if you plan on getting an HUP, they will probably charge you $450/$550 or somewhere close to that

Oh yeah! Duh! I’m sorry, that was my bad. It will get... messy with the new sim cards, unless you can transfer data from your current sim card into a micro-sim card (then into an adapter until you get the iPhone 4). If you can, then all you need to do is swap micro-sim cards (leave the adapter in/with the 3G), and you’re good to go!

Sorry for the confusion. :)

As stated yes you can get the upgrade but you MUST sign up for a $25 data plan in order to get the subsidized pricing. Also your dad could be right as you can only get the subsidized upgrade pricing every 24months. But it does come up early so you may be able to get it on launch day but we are still waiting to see what happens.

Also you can sign up for the $25 data plan and cancel anytime during that month and the rep will remove it at the end of the billing cycle and place a $100 data early cancellation fee (DECF)

We are still waiting to hear on early upgrade pricing and also any special data plans. But best bet is to call customer care and see if you are eligible, if not then I would really wait the extra month and get the much cheaper price

Thanks for the help. But to be more clear, I WANT a Data plan, so I would not cancel.

But some bad news just hit me today. My dad will be out of town until 4 days after launch, and he is the account holder :(

So I hope they dont sell out here in Calgary...

Hey, best thing to do is have you dad call your provider from wherever he is and ask them to put you as an AUTHORIZED person on the account. This will give you the chance to walk in and get one yourself. The thing I would ask you dad to do is explain to the rep that he wants you to get it. That's because I think when they add you on the account as an authorized person, they set limits, like you can make payments but not purchase anything. So tell him to tell them to revolve all restrictions.

Later,
AE

Note, only certain stores allow authorized people to do hups without the actual account holder there. Seen it rejected a lot.

Yea thanks for that note, it's very trust. I forgot to mention that. Anyways you can increase your chances of being able to use your authorized powers by going to a bigger Rogers plus store, don't go to those privately owned Rogers wireless stores.

Thanks

Hey, thanks for the idea. Ill ask him, but Im only 16, do you need to be over 18?

Knowing my dad, he would say just wait. I also just bought a new MacBook Pro, and he is very money conscious, so he doesnt really like the idea of me spending another $200-$300 on a phone. But that wont stop me :p

Hope this isn't a double post, but I just visited Best Buy at Toronto Yonge & Dundas this evening, they have more than a few cases and screen protectors for iPhone 4 already available! Might be worth checking out in advance so you can beat the rush on release day!

Hi,

I'm not sure if you need to be 18. I would say no with confidence, if my memory isn't playing games with me. Anyways just give it a try if not then too bad in guess.

Thanks

Hi I live at Yonge and sheppard and go to Yonge and dundas for school. Well thix coming year will be my last. Anyways are you buying your phone at best buy? And if so, why? I'm going to a Rogers plus store next to my girlfriends house. Well my girlfriend is actually going there. I'll be going to a location near yorkmills and leslie.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure you need to be 18.

I'm pretty sure you don't. I think 16, because I got my Rogers account when I was 17. All I needed was a credit card, which I got as soon as I got into university. It was a student credit card. And being an authorized person doesn't mean you can do much, you cant cancel the account.

Thanks
AE
