The CANADIAN iPhone thread.....

Does anyone know if Bestbuy or the Rogers stores will sell unlocked iPhone's without contracts, or is only the applestore doing this?
 
Has anyone heard of a SIM to Micro-SIM cutter??

I heard it's a preset cutter which helps you cut a regular SIM to the size of a Micro-SIM.

I might be in need of one!

You would be able to buy unsubsidized, contract-free phones but they would still be locked to the carrier. Apple store is the only place to get an unlocked phone.

I also can't see the Apple Store selling carrier-locked subsidized phones, although others insist they will...:rolleyes:
 
Now will the unlocked ones remain unlocked, or as others are saying they get locked to the carrier after activation? Also I assume the unlocked ones would be in-store at the Apple Store correct? not just online?

A little Rogers Plus store about 5 minutes from my house. I'll never tell where though, I can't risk having more people there! :D

Apple's site has some blurb about being able to switch carriers at will, or switch your sim for travelling, so I believe the unlocked phones stay unlocked.

My theory is that the only phones Apple will be selling will be unlocked, so it wouldn't make sense that you couldn't buy them in-store. (I could be wrong though, it's been known to happen now and again. ;) )

Lol give me an idea ok is it around victoria park? Like I said my gf is going to stand at one store and I'll be at another, just to maximize our chances. She will be at the Victoria park location. That of course in Toronto.

Hehe, about 45 minutes outside of Toronto.
 
So I guess at this point there's definitely not going to be a pre order, hey? :( I hate lines. Guess I'll be at Market Mall Friday morning.
 
I spoke with an informative Rogers Plus store rep - he says iPhone 4 stock will be allocated to the stores based on how much traffic they receive. So if you're going to a store that's usually quiet - they will have less iPhone 4 stock. Makes sense.

He also mentioned that special hardware upgrade promotions will be available for people that are under the 2 years smartphone upgrade deadline. The iPhone will likely end up costing 300-500 dollars for these people.

He anticipated they'd be all sold out by the end of the day. Though, we've speculated that because of the month wait and attenuation issues there may be less demand than expected.

Also said that the Rogers systems will be overloaded and crash, so each person will take an hour to get done. LOL. A completely honest Rogers rep :)

Less phones for less active locations, not unreasonable. Special HUP
promotions are almost guaranteed. $300 would be great, $500 is fine too because I sold my iPhone 3GS for $500 cash. Sold out that fast, it's very possible. Demand being lower is not unlikely. Systems crashing, probably.

Keep in mind that all that came from a store rep, so don't take it as official info. This week we will finally get some real info.

He was a corporate store rep. A lot better then the phone reps who are useless! I found it funny that he admitted their systems were going to crash!

He also did mention this week we should be getting more information on official pricing/upgrades. Oh well. I've booked the day off work so I'm showing up at 8am and can stay the whole day if required.

I'm so ********* excited! What time is everyone starting their line ups? I'm going for 8am... the store I've chosen opens at 10am !

Heh, I'm bloody excited too! It's going to be so amazing to have an iPhone again. Being without mine sucks. I didn't think it would be this bad.

I sooooo want to see that Retina Display! I want to record some HD video and edit it with iMovie for iPhone too. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My store opens at 10 am. I hope my mom doesn't have to work that day...either way we can go that day, but earlier the better.

Thanks for the information, false or not. I guess it's still something to consider.

I plan on going out to the Fido store soon (where I plan to get the iPhone) and schedule my plans for Friday there.
 
Ahh man i feel for you guys!!
Luckily I won't have to deal with any of this. I'm going to go to the local best buy after i'm done work and there will be a black 32GB iPhone with a Black bumper waiting for me...


I would've hated to have to wait in line for it!!

Hi,

WE are all lucky man, i think part of this whole package is the waiting. I mean If you go early, you don't wait much anyways. But yea, I'm excited for standing in line with my fellow iphone needers and finally getting one.

Yeah I can see that being "fun" to a certain degree, but having to wait for Rogers reps and telus reps to sort things out cause everything is falling apart and not having the phone in my hands while all that happens just kills me.

I'm your typical guy. I know what I want. I just want to walk into the store, pick it up, pay for it and walk about.

And after all, I have you guys on here to share stories with ;)

Retina display is amazing in person, more so than I had expected. Overall, I just can't wait to actually get the phone.
