You didn't explain why Rogers is the only carrier who won't commit to the launch date.

Virgin Mobile still haven't confirm they will have it on the 30th. I tried to ask the guy who's running VM Facebook and Twitter a couple times and even today he told me : Imma let you know as soon as I know anything.

Yay!

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting Virgin is getting it. Sorry. I should ask my Rogers is the only major carrier not announcing the release date (Fido and Rogers are one in my book - I am with Fido BTW), especially since they were the sole provider for the first two launches.

True, but neither has Fido (which i guess is a given..) and Virgin. I'm not sure of the exact reasoning behind it, and it doesn't seem as obvious as the other points I made, but if I had to guess, i'd say it's simply due to arrogance. Rogers probably assumes that all it's customers are smart enough to know that they will carry the i4 on launch day, since they are the best network blah blah blah and were the first network to bring it canada etc etc. Or they could just release the date later today, it really makes no difference.

Can you picture a market, as vital as the current cell phone one in Canada currently is, where you're a big player and have a blockbuster phone due for release which is guaranteed to be a hit, and you neglect to release it on launch day? I just can't see that happening.

The 3 networks are either still arguing prices, which I doubt Apple is going to budge on, or they're gonna wait till the last minute to announce plans because they don't want to announce identical plans with a week to go. It'll seem like collusion, which is what it probably will be.

Well I just sold my 3GS on kijiji this past weekend for $450

I would think having your phone unlocked on a previous firmware is much more a selling point then having a fresh 4.0 locked.

I mentioned in my add that my phone has fresh 4.0 but has the old bootrom so once an unlock is released you'll then have the choice of using any carrier of your choice.

Good luck and let us know what happens and how much you get for it.

Well so i should be able to unlock it running 5.13.04 and 3.1.3 right?

Well i listed it at 375$ and the girl is interested and wants to pick it up tonight :)

Now my worry is rogers and what their prices/plans will be.. as id hate to sell the phone and then be looked at like a 500$ price for a ip4 with a crazy $$$ plan from rogers.

I'm not sure how you'd have that baseband with 3.1.3 unless you went up to 4.0 and then back down again to 3.1.3??

I'm not sure if there is unlock for 5.13.04......Draz, I could use a little help here! lol

I agree completely. I cannot imagine them screwing up such an important launch. It would just be bad business. But then so is leaving your subscribers hanging, fearing you won't have it on THE DAY. I agree they are likely doing it on purpose. I hope they realize it pisses customers off and that they know I will remember this next summer when my contract is up.

Yah i was at 4.0 before but then went back due to the terrible performance of 4.

Damn.. with my luck that girl thats interested will probably need the phone unlocked and i wont be able to now due to the firmware..

The holdup here is:

#1) Rogers has competition to deal with this time. They don't want to release their plans early, and have Bell/telus/etc modify their 'scheduled' plans to beat rogers, so everyone is going to wait till the last minute. Contradictory to this point though, Rogers released the plans last year approx 12 hours before launch, when they were the sole carrier. (AT&T seems to announce their plans, etc, weeks in advance since they are the only carrier though)

#2) Remember when Rogers released their plans for the 3G a week before launch? All they got out of it was bad press due to being stingy on data, etc. So now, the closer they release the plans to the 30th, the less time the press will have to bash rogers and company.

#3) Why exactly is rogers in a 'rush' to release these plans? What do they have to gain? Have you noticed that Apple put nearly $0 into advertising the iPhone 4? They know people will line up to buy it no matter what, so rogers doesn't even have to release the plans at all. I wouldn't be shocked if they said "sorry, we're not releasing our plans out loud publicly.. come in store to see them on launch day!", and people would still go and it would be sold out.

I'll be surprised if we hear anything by Wednesday, i'm expecting some sort of announcement Thurs. night, between 9 p.m and midnight.

I'm not concerned about pricing in terms of plans, I'm not changing mine unless they offered something that improves on the 6GB/$30 plan. I just want to know something officially on how they are going to run the HUP this year. I doubt we'll hear anything about plans until the night before, if at all before launch but I really hope they announce upgrade information. Hardware pricing, I don't see it being different from carrier to carrier, it seems pretty fixed at $199/299/649/749, etc. so I'd be surprised there are variances between carriers.

Yup i can do it, I just checked. Gotta use ultrasn0w and not blacksnow to unlock.

No issues in unlocking apparently. Should have searched beforehand.

But they will lose the unlock if they ever upgrade the FW to whatever after i unlock it right?

Yes the girl would lose her unlock if she changed firmwares but, there should be another NEW unlock/JB coming in the near future.

You don't need a special tool, just grab a sharp exacto blade and have a steady hand. I tried cutting one and it was as easy as cutting butter. Like I mentioned before, the thing practically cut itself into a micro sim.

HAHA I think I figured it out....Mr. Macnator is going to the Burlington location! About 45minutes from Toronto. lol

I think I'll be going to the Eastgate Square location or the Queenston Road location if anyone wants to join me...but like really early around 7am

In other news....I sold my 3GS yesterday for $450 Man I'm already going crazy without my phone. I need that instant access to the net and email. I've already reached for the thing a dozen times already! lol

I sooooooo hope I can pick up a ip4 32GB for no more than $399.00 on the early upgrade program.

Here's to hoping!!

You sell the 3GS to someone in Hamilton?

Everytime I go to that queenston rd location it feels annoying to deal with the guys there.. I think I might hit one of those stores. I'll be there 6:55am sharp. lol

Hey Profets!

Yup, sold it to some nice guy in the Hammer.

The Queenston location opens up at 8am through the week (I'm 98% sure of it)
I'm either going there or like I said before Eastgate....or maybe even the one in Burlington near Walkers Line. Who ever opens the earliest and has the most stock and is closest to a Timmies! lol

For the people that were at the 3G/3GS launches, how early did you have to go to the Apple store to be able to reserve a good spot in line? Since they are most likely not going to do preorders for the iPhone 4, my girlfriend is offering to go to the store with her friend to pick up my iPhone and her friend's, so I'm wondering what a good time would be to secure a good spot.

I think it's official, Apple Canada won't have pre-oreders prior release date. I just called Apple to check out about this, and they told me they only thing I could do is go to nearest apple store or call them back on the 30th.

Should I consider this response as a confirmation?

haha. not bad, i had tough time selling mine in hamilton and had a lot more hits in GTA.

I'm actually still not sure if I'm going to hit Rogers store or Apple store that morning. Nice to hear they're open at 8! I wonder what kind of stock dealer like the one on queenston will get. its pretty small and doesn't always look like it gets a lot of traffic..

Yah 3G is sold for 350$, i was asking 375$ but she offered 350$. Go through with it?

Good deal guys?

You're right that store itself is small but, it's owned by a large dealer by the name of Complete Communications (the owner is a douche btw lol) he also owns the Limeridge, Burlington, Oakville location so I know he'll have a large number of devices to spread through out his stores.

has anyone been able to confirm any stock at all for friday at rogers locations? I haven't had any luck thus far. Looks like I am going to have to be making some calls on Thursday afternoon to figure out which rogers location to hit up Friday morning at 630am.

I believe this will be the first time that Apple Stores in Canada will be participating in a launch. That said, for the 3G I was about 6th in line at 5a.m for a 9a.m opening at a Rogers Plus. For the 3GS I was first and only one in line at 8a.m for a 10a.m opening...I was the only person picking up a 3GS until about noon thanks to Rogers' sales central going down.

Rogers seems to be quite different when it comes to receiving devices. I know for the 3G they did not get their stock until the night before, I have no idea how it was for the 3GS. I know places like Wireless Wave has their stock about two days prior to launch with the 3GS (although with the 3G they didn't until the night before, jut like Rogers). I wouldn't expect any store giving out stock information prior to opening on the 30th, most stores will say it's a security precaution.
