I believe this will be the first time that Apple Stores in Canada will be participating in a launch. That said, for the 3G I was about 6th in line at 5a.m for a 9a.m opening at a Rogers Plus. For the 3GS I was first and only one in line at 8a.m for a 10a.m opening...I was the only person picking up a 3GS until about noon thanks to Rogers' sales central going down.

Oh I know the whole deal about Sales Central crashing, I actually work for Rogers at one of the retail stores. I'm just wondering what a good time would be for going to the Apple store since I am buying it outright and would like the unlocked feature.

Thanks for the info! Yeah i don't see myself spending $25 on a cutter. I rather just buy the micro-sim for $10 instead... LOL

BTW where did you get the "adapter" from?

Actually it was for my friend. I helped him cut it and found the place to order the adapter right from this forum (can't find the thread). http://microsim-shop.com/

You may be able to pickup a micro SIM from the Apple store for free and save that $10 too. He did it for his iPad.

Rogers seems to be quite different when it comes to receiving devices. I know for the 3G they did not get their stock until the night before, I have no idea how it was for the 3GS. I know places like Wireless Wave has their stock about two days prior to launch with the 3GS (although with the 3G they didn't until the night before, jut like Rogers). I wouldn't expect any store giving out stock information prior to opening on the 30th, most stores will say it's a security precaution.

I was told by my local rogers plus to call back on wed/thurs of this week. If they didn't give out stock info prior to Friday, then how would anyone know which store to go to. You could potentially be waiting hours and hours at a store that wasn't allocated any stock.

OK, here's the Fido chat results. Not too happy. I guess I'll be buying unlocked on Friday.

MJ: Hi, I want to buy the iPhone 4 on Friday, but I hear that Fido stacks contracts, and other carriers don't do this.

Zak joined the incident.

Zak says:
Hello MJ, my name is Zak, and I will be assisting you today. Please allow me a moment to answer your question. Thank you for your patience.

Zak says:
Hello. I believe I understand what you mean when you say ''stack'' and yes you would be able to renew now, even though your agreement only ends in August 2011. However, we are far from the only provider to do this. As far as I understand all providers allow their customers to renew early.

Zak says:
As for us selling the iPhone on Friday we have not yet confirmed it.

MJ says:
From what I understand, Rogers will simply allow to you sign a new contract for 3 years from the signing date. I could understand if Fido wanted to add three years from August 2010, but four years from now is simply ridiculous. Apple releases new phones every year. I wait two years to upgrade. But the contract lengths are 3 years.

Zak says:
I understand. We allow you to renew early and that is a choice you will have to make. You can wait until August 2011 and maybe by then Apple will have released a new iPhone. You do not have to absolutely renew your agreement now if you don't want it lasting 4 years.

MJ says:
I just can't believe there isn't some leeway on this. Now that Apple will be selling unlocked phones, I can just pay a few hundred more to buy one outright and then never sign another carrier contract. I don't think the subsidy on the phone is that great to commit to Fido until 2014.

Zak says:
That is fine, and I respect that point of view. I cannot stop you from doing so.

Zak says:
Unfortunately there is no leeway right now on this, and if you renew when the iPhone 4 is launched you will have close to 4 years on your contract.

MJ says:
OK then. Thanks for your time.

Zak says:
It was my pleasure. Have a nice day.

Zak says:
Thank you MJ for using Fido's Live Chat. Please take a few moments to complete our online survey once you close the chat window and tell us what you think about Fido's Live Chat service. Have a nice day.

Oh man.. forgot about Fido stacking contracts. that's really insane. If you have a year left go for it unlocked from Apple and then next summer you'll have choices to move around if you want.

I've called a couple Rogers locations in my area and two of them have put me on a "waiting list" but then they go on to tell me it's first come, first serve.

No idea what the point is to that!

Most likely just covering their bases. Many locations did the "waiting list" thing for the 3G only to be ordered to call every customer and tell them they couldn't honor the waiting list the night before launch. I was first on the list a local Rogers plus for two weeks only to find out the night before it didn't matter.

only thing we can do is to call our local rogers/fido/best buy etc on thurs afternoon and make sure they will have stock.

Then, Friday, 630am, set up shop outside the store.

So we know Best Buy will be carrying the phone considering their advertisements in the last few days but has anyone heard anything about Future Shop? Apple mentioned their authorized retailers would have the devices and I know Future Shop is part of that (like Best Buy, many are installing the mini Apple kiosk things). I'm a bit surprised we've not heard anything from them yet, as their sites are usually quite similar in terms of product listings.

A question about iphone 4 for bell/telus and rogers. I was under the impression that the bell/telus network and rogers were compatable.

My question is, will the iphone 4 work on both networks or will apple be selling 2 kinds, one that works on rogers and a different one for the bell/telus network. I am wondering because I am thinking of going to the apple store to pick up an unlocked one.

Anybody in Montreal going to stand in line at a Rogers store? If so, which one?

Maybe me. I'm thinking about the "Centre d'achat boulevard" at the corner of Jean-Talon and Pie-IX. It's a small store, but they open at 9h30 so if they go out of stock, I have some option to go somewhere else!

Other than that, I was thinking about Anjou (Galleries d'Anjou which has a Rogers store, Best Buy or Future Shop are in the same corner).

Feel like joining me? :)

Exact same iphone on all 3.

You impression is correct - there's only one kind of iPhone being sold and it'll work on both Rogers and Bell/Telus.

has this been posted, yet?

CBC.ca article on today's Apple press release

Sorry if this is old news. I didn't read Apple's press release so maybe it's in there or something.

Just saw that a few minutes ago. I'd like to know where they got the pricing from.

No, I think this is new. The iPhones last year and the year before were $699 and $799. Some have rumoured they could be $659 and $759 but I personally wasn't holding my breath. However, until I hear it from the carriers I won't believe it. CBC could just be wrong.

I work 2 minutes away from the Rogers corporate store downtown ... I figure they will have the most stock ... but they open @ 10am ... or I have the apple store 5 minutes from there... decisions, decisions...

Well, I have the day off and I live in Rosemont, so, the east side of Montreal is better for me!

But I like the option of a store opening at 9h30, in which you can line up from 8am, and if there's too many person, well, there's always other options! :)

Goodluck getting through to any of the BestBuy/FutureShop stores on Thursday night or anytime on Friday. I doubt they'll have time to pick up the phone.

I would just go down there on Thursday evening and see what they can tell you....

DAMN, 6 pounds for a plastic adapter?? I will wait for Tigerdirect or Canada Computers to get the cheap ones!!

Thanks though....

Nah, I'm calling these prices right.

Ok guys, how about this. Since most of us will renew their contract with the same carrier, why don't we share what plan each of us has and how much you pay for it. And when your current plan's contract will end? I'll start with myself:

Current plan with Fido:
$35 plan
- 350 daytime minutes (outgoing local calls)
- unlimited incoming (local calls) [it should be +$10 more, but was offered for free]
- unlimited weeknights/weekends start 7pm till 8am (outgoing local calls/receive any calls)
- unlimited international text messaging (send/receive)
- +$5 iPhone package (caller ID/visual voice mail/who called messages) [it should be +10, but was offered to pay 50%]
- +$30 6GB data plan

total = $70 + other fees (taxes, province's fees) [no access fee]

Ends in December 2010 (eligible to purchase phones on agreement price)

I wonder what could I get when I renew my contract?
