Hehe, sorry, I like to make sure about things. :D

Well I think there's a very good chance that almost everyone is going to be eligible for some kind of hardware upgrade. If it is the same as last year (probably not, maybe better) then I would be eligible for the $549 price. Why pay that when I can re-sign and get it for $299?

Yeah, I know about the whole 3 year contract BS, but who really cares, I'm staying with Rogers forever with my iPhones, no plans on switching, so 3 years doesn't matter to me.

No worries (though I thought maybe you were just kiding when you kept asking lol).

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but if you're 24 months since last upgrade, then you'll definitely be eligible for 199/299 pricing. Otherwise we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully tomorrow we'll find out (like its been rumored). I would guess there'll be some sort of upgrade options like last year.

Definitely not 24 months since last upgrade. I signed up as a new customer in 2009 (June 19th) for the iPhone 3GS, so 13 months and a bit. But, there were special offers for people in my situation last year.

In that case you'll have to wait and see. Maybe it'll be like last year where you could get it for $450/$550. At that point I'd rather just buy straight from apple. Sell the 3GS and use that to help fund the iP4 purchase.

I already sold my 3GS for $500 cash, so if it's $549 like last year, then that's perfect.

Please let us know tomorrow!

Upgrade Eligibility!!!

Do you want to find out if you're eligible for an iPhone 4 upgrade with Fido?

http://www.fido.ca/web/com/fido/por...gibility.jsp?ctn=7805555555&postalCode=A1A1A1

Change 7805555555 to your phone number (no spaces, no dashes). And change A1A1A1 to your postal code (all uppercase and no spaces).

If it returns H:

"You are eligible to upgrade to an iPhone4 at the special price of $199 for 16GB or $299 for 32GB, with a 3 year Fido Agreement. FidoDollars applicable. Certain conditions apply."

If it returns M:

"You are eligible to upgrade to an iPhone4 at $699 for 16GB or $799 for 32GB, with a 3 year Fido Agreement. FidoDollars applicable. In addition, you will receive a $250 Fido Rewards bonus. Certain conditions apply."

If it returns S:

"You are eligible to upgrade to an iPhone4 at $699 for 16GB or $799 for 32GB, with a 3 year Fido Agreement. FidoDollars applicable. In addition, you will receive a $450 Fido Rewards bonus. Certain conditions apply."

If it returns NULL (either you entered wrong info, or you're not with Fido:

"You are eligible to upgrade to an iPhone4 at $699 for 16GB or $799 for 32GB, with a 3 year Fido Agreement. FidoDollars applicable. In addition, you will receive a $450 Fido Rewards bonus. Certain conditions apply."

Gave me my expected answer, but remember to take this with a grain of salt folks!

EDIT: no longer works, guess someone from fido read this! :)
EDIT #2 (July 29): WORKS NOW!

Has anyone ordered their iPhone over the phone on launch day before? Everyone here seems to talk about lining up so I don't know about doing this.

I really don't want to line up early in the morning, especially since I have a retention plan (hopefully) on hold with Fido and I have a feeling it's going to be a huge hassle to try and renew in store (and I'll still have to call them anyways to get the plan activated after). Although I don't want to have to wait for more shipments to come in, I don't NEED it the first day and I'd be happy to wait a few days for it to come in the mail.

Can you do this? I called Fido last week and they said that I should go to the store, but that if I REALLY insist they'll do the order through the phone for me-so I got the impression that we shouldn't be doing phone orders? Or perhaps they're just trying to keep the phone lines from overloading on Friday....

^Two years ago on the 3G launch i ordered one over the phone through Rogers.. seemed like a mess that day trying to get it done over the phone.

Good point. I could cancel my current data plan which only cost $100. Then sign up for 3 year $30/6GB plan which I'm sure they will be offering.

Man I lined up at 7PM the night before the iPhone 3G launch in Ottawa at the flagship Rogers store (and then ran to another one an hour later when the manager said they only had 64 units for sale the next day...I was 65th in line). If I had been maybe 2 hours later there's no way I would have got one at either location, and since I went to the two biggest locations in the city, I'd assume the situation was the same elsewhere. All of this 2-3AM business sounds awfully optimistic for Carrier stores. You're probably OK getting there around that time for the Apple Store, but I'd be there the night before if you want it from Rogers, Bell, etc.

That's crazy, I've lined up for both iPhones in Canada and yes, there are usually a couple of people who do the overnight thing, but most people start showing up after 6am.
Each time I have showed up around 6am and had no troubles getting a phone.

It depends on how much you paid that Apple Store. If you paid the full price then it is unlocked if you paid the cheaper subsidized price with 3yr contract then it will be locked.

If you bought it online then it will only be unlocked and full price.

Cancelling your data contract and resigning does not make the phone price any cheaper.... You still have to wait the 24 months before you get the full subsidized pricing. And why resign your data plan when you can still keep it after it expires? They won't remove it or change it at all, you have it then it is yours...

But hopefully we find out tomorrow or thursday on any possible special hardware upgrade promos

So the iPhone 4 would get the same policy applied? I mean, if bought at full price at the store, then its unlocked right? Or is the unlocked version only available if bought on the website?

OK I just called Fido to ask a few things and this is what I was told....

-They will do phone orders but agents don't HAVE to-they are allowed to refuse (I guess this is similar to some people being told they can't HUP in store first day-employees want to make more commission off new customers than existing ones on a phone that's guaranteed to sell out).

-I'm not sure about HUPers, but for those signing a new contract (ie your current contract has expired) the cost of your data plan doesn't matter, as long as you add data you will get the phone for $199/299 or whatever the 3yr contract price is.

I think I'm going to skip the lines and just hit the phone Friday morning. I'm away all weekend anyways so I won't get to enjoy the phone much even if I did get it first day.

Does anybody know for sure whether they will be able to HUP a Rogers account at an Apple store? I've previously lined up at a Rogers Plus store, but I don't think they will be opening early, and I have work that day....

What I'm really worried about is lining up forever, only to find out that Rogers' last-minute HUP info release isn't honoured by Apple.

Yes you can hup your rogers account at an apple store and the phone will be charged to your Rogers account, not billed at point of sale.

As for the hup info being released, who cares. Have whatever the cost of the phone is charged to your account and fight with Rogers after the fact.

I just turned 18 and I don't have a credit card and at the Apple Store today they said you can't purchase an iPhone with cash wtf... and they said I can't use my dads credit card and even if I try to use it what if they ask me for ID to verify it's my credit card then I'm f*cked......

Can you use debit? I have a limit can that limit be removed?
this is actually the dumbest thing how can cash be revoked.

This could mean me not getting the iPhone 4

I'm wondering the exact same thing. I won't have a credit card available, but I can have the money on hand in cash or by debit.

I was going to call them tonight, but they just closed. Hopefully they will allow us to use a debit card, or maybe - like others have suggested - to store the cash into a gift card, link it to an iTunes account, then use the gift card for the iPhone.

So I just called all the local cell shops and all of them but one told me the same thing.

For my situation:
2 years left
Bought 3GS on launch last year (June 18th)

I have to buy an unlocked phone. Apparently I can't go into any one of these Wireless Waves or other Mobile stores, I have to go directly to Apple. The one that told me different was a Wireless Wave who said there should be an upgrade price for me as it's happened in the past.

Sound about right or are they completely wrong?

The one guy is right. There will be a upgrade price for 3GS users who bought around launch date. An. I'm assuming it's gonna be either $200 ( if your bill is over 100) or $450 ( if your bill is under $100). Both prices are for 16gb model
