I just turned 18 and I don't have a credit card and at the Apple Store today they said you can't purchase an iPhone with cash wtf... and they said I can't use my dads credit card and even if I try to use it what if they ask me for ID to verify it's my credit card then I'm f*cked......

Can you use debit? I have a limit can that limit be removed?
this is actually the dumbest thing how can cash be revoked.

This could mean me not getting the iPhone 4

Just go to your bank and go up to the teller and tell him/her that you want to increase your debit limit.

My phone got stolen in May so I have had no phone of my own since then.

However, my girlfriend does have a phone and we do live together so I do have a phone to use.

Just sold my iPhone 3G. $250. I know some people here got more, but I was quite happy with the selling price. I'd really like to get my hands on the iPhone 4 on Friday, and if I get even a hint of tomfoolery from Rogers I'm going to buy it straight unlocked from Apple.

What the hell. Is that even aloud for the employees to deny purchase for the unit itself, and not in a contract? That's not customer loyalty !!!!!!

I called the local Fido retail store today, and they told me: They estimate 20 units on launch day, they may or may not sell me the iPhone 4 considering I am not getting a new contract, AND/ OR im not renewing my contract. WHAT THE HELL? They may or may not? What if I show up, wait in line for hours, and they deny my purchase?!

That's not customer loyalty, and that should be considered illegal within these carriers.

Yeah, that is pure BS that they can choose to deny purchase to anyone. What the hell is wrong with Rogers.

I dont care what ROGERS does, I'm standing in line and if I dont get an Iphone 4 on friday ill get mad. I'm not going to tell them that im upgrading. I'm going to walk in and tell them I want to buy a 16gb iPhone 4, if they ask if I'm a new customer or a existing. I will tell them its non of their business and that I heard about their dirty business methods and that if I dont get to walk out with an iPhone, il take this case to the highest levels of management. Its as simple as that.

You have to realize something. Every Rogers WIRELESS store and the AML and Wireless Wave vendors are Franchise locations, meaning they sell the product, but they do not necessarily follow company policy. All Rogers PLUS stores are corporate, so we (I work for Rogers Plus) do what is supposed to be done.

The store I work at has a Rogers Wireless across the street in the mall, and they always send customers to us if they are either: not getting commission from the sale, not getting a contract, or if they just don't feel like helping them. We get plenty of complaints from that store.

Now I'm not saying I support and follow everything Rogers does and wants to do, but there is that distinction between franchise and corporate locations that may make a difference in a buying experience.

Glad to hear, i'm not the only one.
I actually just got a new retention plan (they had to fix it twice) today. If they deny my purchase, i'm going to pull a fit, embarrass them, and tell them my situation with the retention and that i'm going to move on with Rogers !!

CHEERS TO ALL THE NO-CONTRACT IPHONES!
I'm calling the local store ahead of time, and making sure they better mind their own business when I arrive on Friday.

Oh, that's something I never took consideration of. Thanks.
My local Fido store has told me they are corporate. Does that mean they can't deny my purchase - if I don't upgrade my contract? The rep of the local store said, they may or may not deny my purchase...

As the guy above already mentioned. cooperate stores TRY to follow the books a little better than those private stores. So they may or may not deny you. The chances of them denying you is lower than private stores. I know people at futureshop that are hooking me up but they said their shipment will come saturday for some reason. I hate it. I want it on friday.

I guess if my local corporate store denies my purchase due to commission reasons, I have the right to pull a temper tantrum and receive my iphone 4 contract less right :D

Still waiting on confirmation that the "bonus Fido rewards" can be applied to this purchase. If not, that cements my decision to buy unlocked this year.

'You are eligible to upgrade to an iPhone4 at $699 for 16GB or $799 for 32GB, with a 3 year Fido Agreement. FidoDollars applicable. In addition, you will receive a $450 Fido Rewards bonus. Certain conditions apply.'

I'm not sure about Fido policies, but they really shouldn't deny your purchase if they are corporate. Franchise locations are at the sole discretion of the owner. Are you buying outright?

Will Best Buy be accepting new customers only as well? It's the closest to me, so I really would rather go there than a Rogers Plus.

Ah...Still pure BS.

The store I will be going to, is a Rogers Plus, so I won't be denied trying to upgrade then?

I'm definitely not going to let them even think of denying me. I'll be nice in the beginning but if I sense something, I'll switch. What I'm wondering is, I'm eligible for upgrade because I'm past my 24 month. Why is it that when they extend my contract (ie give me subsidized price for 3 years extension), they dont get any comission. Whats the difference being a new customer signing on or extending? I see people who want to buy it right up and not extend but people who are extending their contracts, are the same as people with new contracts.

Best Buy will have it on launch day, but call your store to find out ahead of time.

Lol, you shouldn't. There are of course those stores that are filled with *******s, so the location becomes a factor too. My store doesn't deny anyone unless we physically can't do what they require, which in that case we direct them in the right way.

We do get commission when renewing someone's contract. It's just not as much as a brand new activation, obviously. Upgrades are quite different in the Rogers system than brand new. Buying outright is the same as always, it doesn't matter who you are.

Anyone interested in suing Rogers over this. I'm still pissed about my 3GS purchase a year ago.

I called the store to make sure they had them in stock, raced to the store, stood in line and once was my turn I asked for my phone.

The girl said we're only selling iphones to new Customers, no out right sales, no upgrades, new contracts only.

Fast forward to today. I called the Rogers store, same deal no outright sales and no upgrades on Friday. Unreal.

Is that legal? At the very least it's false advertising, it should read "iPhone4 available July 30th to new Customers only" because that's exactly what they're doing.

If it's not legal as consumers we should stand up, take action and hire a lawyer and see what options there are?

entatlrg, did you go to a corporate location or franchise? Read my post above. You can't technically sue Rogers if it was a franchise location, because those places aren't owned by Rogers themselves. They just sell the product. Just so you know.
