Ok, so if our market is roughly 1/10th the size of our neighbours to the South, surely the amount of extra phones needed to launch in Canada on June 24th would be negligible...

I think it's something to do with common f*cking sense. Our population is 1/12th of America's and less than that of one state (California). The cost of doing business in such a small market means that we're no where near 'priority'.
Hey there...I'm new here but wanted to share a story I have about my wireless headaches with Rogers.
So I've been with Rogers for 4 years now...been month-to-month for over a year now. Last year before the Iphone3gs came out I was promised this great plan and the phone for $199. Then it came out and they wouldnt honour anything I was told before and wanted to charge me $350 for a hardware upgrade saying that was a deal...and oh I'd have to sign a new contract too.
So 2 weeks ago I got fed up and just said I want the friggin Iphone...so I called and threatened to leave and this is what they said I would get per month $60 included:
Rogers to rogers calling
evenings after 5pm
weekends free
voicemail, call display...that special call display that shows people who arent in your contacts already
unlimited text
350 minutes
1gb of data
unlimited social networking
and oh the iphone 3gs would be $199...I was fine with that.
then the day my phone was to be delivered i heard about iphone 4 and sent back the 3gs...and now i've kept this new plan with data which i cant use on my non-smart phone that i currently have. I got the bill yesterday...voicemail is only free for the first month, no unlimited text...actually no text at all! and no special call display...so my question is...is this a good deal and should i keep paying till i get my iphone 4 or say forget it with rogers and buy the phone outright with apple and go to who ever...and do you think i could get just as good a plan somewhere else or even with rogers when the phone actually comes out?
thanks!
... the iPhone doesn't even support that special type of call display you mentioned. (it's called Name Display)
For what it's worth, Name Display seems to work on my Fido iPhone.
Well I think they took advantage of you.
Firstly, the iPhone doesn't even support that special type of call display you mentioned. (it's called Name Display)
Secondly, the second the new iPhone 4 comes out that will be the phone going for $199 and the 3GS will likely drop down to $99
Also instead of regular voicemail tell them you want visual voicemail. It's more advanced than the regular.
I'd stick with Rogers if they address those concerns because now that you have that knowledge you'll have them right where you want them. You'd never get a plan like that being a new customer anywhere.
After you have this issue settled come back here and let us all know what happened. Or of course if you need anymore advice don't hesitate to ask? This is the Canadian thread after all! lol
PS....most of the time those changes won't take effect until your next billing cycle, unless you request otherwise and want to pay the prorate charges.
As mentioned I'm with Fido and I'm eligible to upgrade my 3G in a week's time. The rep I spoke with on chat confirmed I can redeem my $80-something Fido reward dollars towards the upgrade price of the phone, activate in-store and pay no activation charge.
Stoked.
Yeah, Name Display works on the iPhone with Rogers too. The only issue with it was say you received a call from an unknown contact and it showed the "name", later if you went to call history you'd just see a number instead. But sounds like that's been fixed with iOS4
Anyone know what the Rogers 7.1 carrier update today consisted of (seems at least bell also pushed an update out)? Seems it only pops up with iOS 4 users if you go into the about menu under settings.
Contract renewals and HUPs are two separate things. You should still be eligible for the upgrade.I wonder if I will get the 199/299$ price for the iPhone 4.
I got my iPhone 3G in 2008 of July. But I recently changed my rate plan 2 weeks ago so my contract has been renewed until June 2013. However I was told by rogers that I'm eligible for a hardware upgrade every 2 years.
Does my contract effect this?

My carrier settings are still 5.0....I do have a jailbroken phone though. I don't know much about the carrier settings honestly. Should these update automatically or do I have to do it manually?
Once you update to 4.0....just go into SETTINGS and select GENERAL and then ABOUT...it should then update you automatically.
In the past when you would update to a new firmware via tethered to iTunes, it would then prompt you to install the carrier update.
you should always have the current carrier settings as it optimizes your phones reception and what not with their network.
Hope that helps....
Typical Typical Robbers. They never ****ing get the credits right and the first month bill is full of surprsises. Thats why when you negotiate a new contract, you should clearly ask 100 times how many credits there are, and for how long the credits will be. Call back, threaten to cancel and talk to retentions, then tell them that they are giving you wrong information and fooling you. Talk about how ridiculously bad you are being treated and that you have to spend so much time calling rogers again and again. Tell them that i can get better deals outside of rogers and talk about the palm pre $30 deal Bell has. you really have to sound like you know what others are offering and are willing to go elsewhere. And tell them that you are being pushed into a 3 year contract that you didnt sign up for and dont be scored to talk to the managers, you will get a better deal out of them, even more so then the retentions people.Hey there...I'm new here but wanted to share a story I have about my wireless headaches with Rogers.

I have a 3G iPhone and will upgrade to iOS4 today as soon as I can. I know that I won't be able to multitask, however, I have read that it does make the 3G iPhone a bit quicker which would be great.
As soon as I can get my hands on the iPhone 4, I want to get it.
