What do you mean by support from Apple? Like warranty support or software?

I’m sure the asd build is nice, but not twice the price nice. Especially for the same panel

I guess height adjustment is only valuable if you need it, and the main thing for me would be the ability to get it lower.

So yeah, if you are planning to get the height adjustable version then comparing the price to that would make sense, if you get the basic version then why would you compare to something else?

Ok, comparing the non height adjustable version you are paying more for less

Height adjustment is a basic feature of all but the most budget monitors

Totally agree, though I never saw another monitor without hight adjustment so not sure it’s a budjet thing or not.

My main point is that everyone will need to make that comparison from their own own needs point of view. Thats not just for price comparison but also the value, for example camera, speakers and mic.

I’ve no need of camera and speakers, but that’s just me

I don’t really want to be responsible for derailing this otherwise valuable thread so I’m going to back away from arguing about any of this

I heard about it in the Kuycon G32P thread, but it’s from a Reddit post — apparently (could be fake) Kuycon’s customer service mentioned it in a chat on Alibaba March 15, said it would be released in April. Timing seems right.

LG also started releasing more information about the UltraGear Evo line yesterday, starting with the 39" 5K2K OLED on their Canada site (don’t expect a price until it ships) — the 27" 5K MiniLED could be next.

So there is movement — Simon Baker at TFT Central does a good job of tracking these press-release and site-update announcements, and he often knows more than he can say.

Saw a social media post of this display near a window and it seemed to fare fairly well. I think it's probably easier to get good AR handling with a plastic glossy coating rather than a thicker pane of glass like the ASD has.
 
That is interesting news about the Kuycon 180Hz monitor. I have held off on the 27-inch 5K, expecting Kuycon to be updating in the second or third quarter.
 
Can someone direct me to the 4K equivalent of this thread? I can't find it.

I really need to buy one before the end of today for tax reasons.

I have thought about creating a WikiPost that lists exceptional 4K monitors in terms of quality and features — it wouldn’t be a list of all 4K monitors, and so it wouldn’t be useful for shopping and comparing prices in the same way the *complete* 5K and 6K lists are.

It would start with the EIZO ColorEdge lineup and build out from there. The idea would be to list 4K monitors that offer features Apple’s products do not (this is an Apple-oriented site, after all), starting with professional color management software and then tracking developments in OLED and perhaps a few exceptional MiniLED arrays.

I was thinking of calling it something like “the list of *exceptional* 4K monitors” — the introductory bit would explain what that means in this context: “exceptional” relative to Apple’s products.

For OLED, we’d start with the iPad Pro, then look at 27" and 32" 4K monitors that offer similar or better features. For MiniLED (and soon, RGB MiniLED) arrays, we’d start with the current MacBook Pro and the Studio Display XDR and do the same.

This last thing — RGB MiniLED arrays, are the true reason I’m interested in mapping this out and tracking developments.
