I think there is no problem with macOS scaling 2x to either 6K resolution
yes, there is no problem with macOS scaling 2x to either 6K resolution but there is a bug in macOS where DSC is not working with 6144 x 3456 resolution and DP1.4 connection. That means when you use DP1.4 port you can't get HDR but also (and this could be even more important for someone) you can't get full 6144 x 3456 resolution in RGB 4:4:4 mode. Only 4:2:2 chroma subsampling is available. Which is ok for movies/games but is not very good for some text and small color details.

ASUS global site MSRP $1399
MacRumors Forum thread
Best Buy USA has it listed for $1299, sold by Best Buy (not some third party). It's been listed there at that price for over a week now. No stock yet though.

So, we've gone from $1199 to $1299 to $1399 and now back to $1299?

It's still listed at $1399 on Asus' own website though. 🤔

You’re waiting on 2 rumored 27” 5K Apple Studio Displays in a thread about 32” 6K displays? 🤔

Nobody really knows what these monitors are going to be. I’m hoping for a new 32 inch model or higher one, but speaking about rumours:

Gurman suggested Apple could be developing two versions of the Studio Display and would choose one to launch, or it was developing a second model with a different screen size or set of specifications

I can’t even find the Asus 6K and it’s supposedly out. If whatever Apple announces it’s not good for me I’ll probably get another brand discounted.

Gurman can be rather unprofessional (trained historians and journalists don’t make these kinds of “own goal” mistakes) as he mashes information from different sources together to create a coherent narrative. We saw this with his erroneous conclusion about Hidra, and now he may be trying to force the square peg “J527” into the round hole of the rumor that Apple has two displays in the works for the first half of 2026.

I think it’s possible Apple could have a Studio Display (5K) and Studio Display Plus (6K) in the works. But probably it’s more likely that the two displays are a 5K Studio Display refresh and a 6K Pro Display refresh. J527 is probably something else, a prototype of a future hybrid tandem OLED 5K 120Hz “Studio Display Pro.” Not something due to launch in 2026.

I agree with your theory, because it would also fit with Samsung presenting a 5K 27" OLED panel in the form of a monitor at Display Week or CES.

Do we have stats on the minimum heights of these 32" 6K monitors? I prefer shorter monitors.

Below is a list of some minimum heights. The first number is the minimum height. The second is the screen diagonal size.

18.1" - 23.5" 16:9 Apple iMac
18.8" - 27.0" 16:9 Apple Studio Display
19.2" - 32.0" 16:9 Asus ProArt PA329CV
19.2" - 31.5" 16:9 LG 32UP83AK-W
19.3" - 28.2" 3:2 Huawei MateView
20.3" - 27.0" 16:9 Apple 27" iMac (but it has a tall top bezel)
20.6" - 32.0" 16:9 Dell UltraSharp 32 6K U3224KB (but it has a tall top bezel)
21.0" - 32.0" 16:9 Apple Pro Display XDR

This bodes well for the Asus 6K and LG 6K monitors, but I don't know for sure as I don't have minimum height specs for those.

Mine is the 28.2" Huawei which has a very small bezel so the top of the viewable screen is at about 19". I actually find that already on the tall size, but I can work with it.

18,18" - 32" 16:9 Kuycon G32P 6K Display

I always measured the top edge of the monitor. (Was that correct?)

Hehe, Yes, I have now read your explanation. Before that, I was a little confused by the values (I should mention that I am used to centimeters at home and not inches... so it took me a while to realize that your table meant something slightly different ;) ).

Good take. Thanks.

I thought this was fixed in MacOS 14?

I guess I’m back to waiting:

Gurman is really just guessing at this point, he now states 2 new monitors but refuses to accept one will be a Pro Display XDR? What is Apple going to do? Launch a more advanced Mini LED Studio Display 5K that walks all over the 6K Pro Display XDR for less than half the price?
No, I think Apple will update BOTH size monitors at the same time. Although give me a 32” Studio Display ANY day of the week!

The LG apparently doesn’t ship until Oct. 20.

BTW, there was 1 available for back order at Best Buy Canada yesterday, but that is gone now.
