145mph in my Celica. But that was on a disused airfield, not a public road so probably doesn't count ;)

Last night, I got my mother's '04 LeSabre up to 110MPH, then the governor kicked in  It was still accellerating pretty quickly too. 205HP, 230 lb.-ft. will do that. I'm just pissed that 1) it's governed at 110, and 2) the speedo goes up to 140. Why make the speedo go that high if you won't let the car go that fast!

i agree that it's stupid, but most cars have a governor like that. not sure why though. On my Nissan Xterra, it has a governor at 100 mph. and the speedometer goes to like 125 i think

Around 130mph in my 2004 Hyundai Tiburon. Could've gone faster since my car doesn't have a governer and the theoretical top speed is in the 150s.

This was on interstate 44 late at night in the middle of nowhere...i'd never do that during the day

Track day Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire Ferrari 360 modena , its was about 150 mph not much of a straight so not that long to glance at the Speedo:p

On the road about 130mph (quiet night) in an Alfa Romeo 166 Twin Spark

Fastest I've driven a car was about 4mph on my aunts farm in Poland :) thats the only time I've been behind a wheel. I'm 20, driving doesn't interest me yet. not until I'm out of uni and in a full time job.

I clocked a good speed on my bike once, going down from Diggle to Huddersfield. I hit terminal velocity which was fun.

What's the fastest speed you have driven at yourself ?
Airborne in a car --> about 110 mph (Lucky to be alive)

XR4Ti --> about 130 mph

AH-1S Cobra helicopter --> about 160 mph (skids were on the ground!) :D

190 Knots in a Mooney Ovation..oh wait, driving. :p

Prolly 100 in my old Audi 4000 when I was 16. Then I started flying, and it just didn't seem the same. (Not trying to be arrogant, it's just the truth.)

This discussion reminds me of a quote out of the book, "Sled Driver."

In his book, Sled Driver, SR-71 Blackbird, pilot Brian Shul writes:

"I'll always remember a certain radio exchange that occurred one day as Walt (my back seater) and I were screaming across Southern California 13 miles high. We were monitoring various radio transmissions from other aircraft as we entered Los Angeles airspace. Though they didn't really control us, they did monitor our movement across their scope. I heard a Cessna ask for a readout of its ground speed."

"90 knots" Center replied. "Moments later, a Twin Beech required the same."

"120 knots," Center answered. We weren't the only ones proud of our ground speed that day as almost instantly an F-18 smugly transmitted,

'Ah, Center, Dusty 52 requests ground speed readout.'

There was a slight pause, then the response, "525 knots on the ground, Dusty."

"Another silent pause. As I was thinking to myself how ripe a situation this was, I heard a familiar click of a radio transmission coming from my back seater. It was at that precise moment I realized Walt and I had become a real crew, for we were both thinking in unison."

"Center, Aspen 20, you got a ground speed readout for us?"

There was a longer than normal pause ..

"Aspen, I show 1,742 knots" No further inquiries were heard on that frequency.

135+mph(the speedometer needle was bouncing) in a car that I my dad bought me, a Ford Galaxie 500, thinking it would be safe as my first car and that it still had an air of cool. I disagreed, but felt slightly better after I tasted speed on an Arizona highway...and after I got a new 51/4" floppy drive for my C64.:D

From the book Jonathan Livingston Seagull:

You will begin to touch heaven, Jonathan, in the moment that you
touch perfect speed. And that isn't flying a thousand miles an hour, or a million, or flying at the speed of light. Because any number is a limit, and perfection doesn't have limits. Perfect speed, my son, is being there.

I love old motorcycles and my old BMW R26 goes 70mph maximum. I don't need more, it is just perfect how it is. I drove many different cars in my life (of course I didn't own them all) and with some I was going very very fast... but who cares? I find driving more than 125mph for a longer period of time (and that only when the road is almost clear of other traffic) strenous and dangerous, it isn't worth it... So what is the point of bragging about the top speed somebody was going already in his life? That he was closer to death? That he was so fortunate to drive a Ferrari or a Lamborghini? Big deal...

Again:

... any number is a limit, and perfection doesn't have limits. Perfect speed, my son, is being there.

In a car, about 120MPH. This was in a rented Mustang convertible. ;)

On a bike, just over 135MPH, in Hawaii riding my grandfather's Yamaha V-Max 1200. I admit to not wearing a helmet at the time. The fact that there aren't helmet laws in Hawaii makes it difficult to want to put one on (especially considering the heat at times). :)

My car won't go any faster then 175 km/h -- - my dad's 210 km/h --- i don't get much face time with my moms car but i know it does 165 km/h very easily and smoothly

at those speeds i'm to scared that i'll get caught and loose my license ... especially anything over 150 km/h

my car rarely goes faster than 60Mph, as it's a renault kangoo with a 1.2 engine:D

a nice car though, and one of the few i can get in without scratching my head on the ceiling.

ive drivien it at a record 68Mph. Downhill.

:D

I hope all those who have admitted to breaking the law here get a visit from the cops. Speed limits are in place for a reason. My friend killed his brother by speeding and is doing 2 years for manslaughter. Nuff said!
Sorry to hear that. Be sure to have to cops drop by and visit me.
