Between 140 and 145 on my Yamaha FZ1, the bike was still comfortably accelerating and I decided that I wouldn't try to figure out how much faster it would go. Daytime, Route 66 in Virginia. Great ride though.

In the open air on a bike.....far different than sitting in a steel container car.

So now I know who all those people I saw were! All the people posting in this thread!

^ About a year ago, we were driving in heavy traffic, at about 85mph, and 4 (count 'em — 4) heavily modified silver Porsche Carreras drove by at about 150 mph...weaving from one side of the road to the other, often across 4 lanes in one pass to avoid the traffic. They were in and out in about 3 seconds. My other experience at driving *around* other nice cars was actually this past summer, when I was the passenger in a Mitsubish Monter (big clunky SUV) doing about 60 mph. A Viper with its top down sidled up in the lane next to us, and I quickly wrote "Wanna Race?" on a piece of paper and held it up to the window. The Viper driver stuck out his tongue and dropped back out of sight around a slow bend. About 10 minutes later the Viper roared past us at what had to have been almost three times our speed.

Damn I want a fast car.

This thread has been bouncing around lately with the arrow showing I posted in it...checking on my post (from four years ago) I realized I never actually answered the question.

As a passenger: 150mph in a VW Passat wagon on the German autobahn. We were quickly passed by what appeared to be a limiter-removed Audi A8 W12 that made us look like we weren't moving. :D

As a driver: Around 120mph in the ol' Honda Accord on a number of occasions. The '09 model is actually very tame over 100. Also somewhere around that speed in my friend's Volvo S60R, which was fun.

I've also been in a barefoot ski boat going 100mph on a lake, which was interesting to say the least.

What's funny is that i have a 2004 pontiac vibe and it tops out at 117 and it has the exact same engine and everything as the matrix, the only thing thats different are the body molds and the pontiac symbol

The pontiac vibe and matrix are the same....i once confused them one for the other:p...to bad... General Motors will stop making them pontiac vibes due to going bankrupt:D

r u a minor? (95MPH on a 25MPH Speed Zone!!!:eek::eek::eek:) i would never do that!:D

only on freeways.....:p

Yeah, I'm 16. It's the road I live on, a straightaway where you can see from end to end.

It's just too tempting. :p

(I've only gone that fast once, and probably never again...an SUV like that gets a little unstable at that speed.)

At this point in my life, I don't have any need for speed. But it would be nice to merge onto the highway with plenty of power to spare. Today I saw the Mazda Speed 3 for the first time and this car has been compared favorably to the top of the line Jetta in its class. This is the class I like since its realistic vs. the Ferrari thing.

The car that I previously saw was a souped up Mazda 3, and the difference was that the Mazda Speed 3 said so on it's logo.

MAZDASPEED3

I want one. :)

Trust me i know, i love my car. Although i am trading it in soon, just getting to be high miles and i wanna get rid of it before it becomes more of a problem than anything. But i've loved the thing since i got it. It has AWD which is great in this new england weather, it heats up fast and keeps up with just about every other midsized car in everything while also getting great gas mileage. It really is a shame they went bankrupt because i honestly would have just traded up to a newer one, but now i kind of want an audi instead.

New England huh?...must be snowy....:p u mos def would need a AWD or 4x4 or SUV like a hummer or so...

but if you want an audi that's like a matrix or vibe... i recommend the audi a3

performance + good MPG + looks like a matrix/vibe.

138mph in a 1988ish mazda mx-6 turbo with 5 people in the car. Quite possibly one of the dumbest things I have ever done. I also took my 1986 Cavalier Z24 to the point where the car shut down. Nothing like doing 115mph and the car shutting off on you. Lost power steering and power breaks.

Fortunately, both instances ended with out incident. Never again. Not worth it.

315km/h = 195mph in a Ferrari F40 owned by a friends father. Going down A95 Munich to Garmisch on a Wednesday night. We were trying to see if we could make it to McDonalds in Garmisch before they closed at 1AM.
Cheers,

Ahmed

They have a MacDonalds in Garmisch now! Well ok, I was there 30 years ago but still in Garmisch...

You don't need some SUV with a center of gravity over my head to make it through snow in New England. The bumper of a Subaru makes a handy plow.

that depends on were you live....:p

it might be a couple of inches to some feet...and a subaru....what type of subaru??? the SUV or sedan type?

90 mph wile receiving fellatio in a Plymouth Relaint K car--yah not the fastest but it was a wonderful Sunday drive:D

Trust me i would love nothing more than to have a brand new audi, especially the a3 with quattro but i'm an almost 21 year old college student with barely any funds, the vibe is the only piece of value i have to use towards a new car and even though its in good condition i was coming home from work 2 years ago after a rain/freezeover/snow storm and hit a patch of covered black ice and hit a tree doing 20 and even though the car was able to be fixed it hasnt been the same since. but if i could afford a new one i would, right now i'm looking at a 2005 saab 9-2x aero. saabaru wrx is more like what they should actually call it. And to answer your question yes; awd, 4x4 or suv is a must up here in the winter.

127mph on a 1987 Yamaha Fazer. It would have gone faster, but I was getting nervous and you travel a lot of ground at that speed in a short amount of time.

In my younger days I owned a 1970 Ford Bronco. It was lifted and with a hopped up engine, it was also pretty fast. The speedo went to 110, I had it past that and on the pin at the bottom of the gauge. 120 maybe, who knows. Not bad for a lunchbox on wheels. I've also had my 1950 Willys up to 78 miles per hour....that's like what I would imagine re-entering the atmosphere in the space shuttle would be like.

~160 in my souped up sti a long time ago. I had to do it once. The only excitement comes from the danger and the possibility of getting caught. I'll never do it again... running it on the track (the twisty sort) is far more fun (and safe).

Eh, 95 MPH in a Ford Escape. (Though it was in a 25 MPH zone...) I just got my license four months ago, I don't need a ticket. Or death.

Yeah, I'm 16. It's the road I live on, a straightaway where you can see from end to end.

Hey, um, where do you live? What road is that? I NEED to move there... :D;)

I live in New York, where you are first eligible for a permit at age 16 (I'm 16 and got it a week after my bday) and must wait until age 18 for your license unless you take a defensive driving course (which I am doing) and by doing that you get one at age 17. And with a leaners permit, I can't drive in any of the 5 boroughs of New York City without car equipped with dual brakes, which means my dad can't legally take me driving on the street, but we do anyway, almost no one follows that rule.

I heard in some midwest states you can get your license at 14..

110 mph in my Eclipse. It was at night so I didn't really get the sense of how fast I was going. Didn't seem much different than driving at the normal speed.
