How does the adapter work? Is it just plastic which makes the size bigger? and Does it change the gold contacts on the bottom atall or is there just a hole so the phone reads straight from the nano sim?

Imagine you put the sim tray down on the table facing up,
You then put the adaptor in the sim tray and the nano sim into the
Adaptor, also facing up (contacts up)

The adaptor is just plastic to make he nano fit and contacts line up with the phones contacts.

There's. Little hole in the adaptor, just if you wanna pop the micro sim out easy.

Does anybody know if it is possible to swap your sim for a nano sim if you are on Three PAYG? I would like to keep my number but not opt in for a contract, at least for now.

Cheers,
Seige

Just spent 45 mins trying to get through to T-Mobile. I eventually spoke to a CSR on upgrades, who went off to check with their manager. When he came back, he informed me that, at this time, nano sims do not exist on their system, so they are unable to supply me with one.

He said this could change over the next few days, but he couldn't tell me when.

When I queried why a network which is trying to position itself as THE network to get iPhone 5 on didn't have any sims, he offered to transfer me to customer services. My call was then promptly dropped

Just cut my Orange sim down, meant actually cutting through the gold contacts carefully, (but I know the "chip" is only central under the gold contacts) .

Still works in my full size sim phone with an adaptor, so I'm comfortable and a lot happier that I wont need to chase Orange for a new one now :)

Yes! So happy to hear this! Was it easy to do or difficult to get it right? and did you follow a guide or just guess where to cut? :) + Did you get your adapter from 3?

Yes, all handled in store when you buy a Nano (£5.11 with adaptor)
Mine transferred in 2 hours.

easy peasy, used the template earlier in the thread, yeah a "borrowed" 3 adaptor to test it, but now the sim is just sat in my current phone on its own, just correctly aligned and still working fine ..

Vodafone twitter seem to be saying ask in store. When I asked in a Leeds store yesterday they said if I come in when the device is available they will swap it over.

Sounds good, Still have to wait until next Friday to cut mine as I don't have an adapter to test it anyway :3 Now all I need it double sided tape!

Hi all

I ordered a sim free from Apple, went to T-mobile telesales and the guy ordered me a nano sim to arrive on Friday for the full monthy 21.00 plan :)

He said I could have it on Monday if I want.

Here is the twist, went to upgrades for my other line, and they said they can't issue me with a nano, I'll just have to pop into 1 of there stores, he put me through to the customer services and they also said they can't do it its not on the system, so I asked them how did sales do it?, Ummm they put me through back to sales, and sales said they can only do it on new sims ordered ie new contracts.

Hope it helps some people

Brilliant! Thanks! :D

Kept the micro In my ip4 expecting it to take days.
Then two hours later my ip4 lost all signal.
Swapped out the old micro, slapped in the new nano and
Boom, its working.

Called my number from a landline to make sure, lovely jubbly

It's pretty much the same deal with Orange, it's funny how they have nano sims for people who are going to be signing up for a 24 month contract but they have none in stock for people who are already paying.

Thanks mate......off to annoy someone in the sales department now! :D

Seriously?
This is the news I've been waiting for - you can trim a sim to nano and it works???

I thought the new tray on an iPhone 5 is thinner in depth - so concerned??

If it works i'll be delighted.....:D

https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=15671240#post15671240

Yes, I'm not even using an adapter, just popped the newly trimmed and thinned nanoSIM into the remains of the original SIM held in place with a little sticky tape :)

NB. You can make out the SIM chip in the middle of the nanoSIM, it's the darker rectangle visible through the plastic. You barely need to sand off anything as we're only talking roughly a tenth of a millimeter.

Hope that helps although there seems to be a number of conflicting stories floating around!

That's T-Mobile (UK) right? If so then this will probably be the same date for Orange as they're both operating under EE.

are 3 sims locked to 3? or can i port a o2 number across and make it a o2 sim lol... surely its possible ?

a three sim will always be a three sim.
You can port your O2 number over to Three by obtaining a PAC code from O2

Then you will be ON Three, but using your old O2 number.
Should you want to move it again later, just get a PAC code from three
And take your same number with you.

It's all about the PAC, ;)

Thanks for the info.

I've just tried to pull some strings with the business account customer services (we have a business line too). He said that he CAN see them on the system, but is unable to order one from his department. He put a note on my account explaining that nano sims definitely are available, wished me the best of luck, and transferred me back to customer services.

I'm going to try 3 again today (no joy with them yesterday) and see if they'll swap mine over for a nano.

I went in to my local 3 store yesterday and walked out with a free Nano SIM (which should go live today) and an adaptor set.

Once the Nano's live, I'll put it in the Micro SIM adaptor and straight into my 4S until my 5 arrives next week, when it will go straight in sans adaptor.

----------

I got a nano from Three (Camden) with adaptor yesterday £5.11
Number transfer took 2 hours.
Everything working fine.

So to confirm, that's a Nano in a micro adaptor in an iPhone 4. WORKING.

As for cutting: http://www.airportal.de/How_to_cut_Mini_and_Micro_SIM_to_Nano_SIM.pdf

I've cut COUNTLESS mini's to micros for friends and family by hand, never used a punch (don't trust em)

As for nano being 'thinner', remember with the iPhone 4 you could have a micro & gevey ontop.
So there's a little play room in the iPhone 4 sim slot.

I think if you cut a micro down it may slip into an iPhone 5 still, we won't know till we get our hands on the iPhone 5.
But if not, a little rubbing on some fine sandpaper won't be so hard.
Now we know the connector plates are constable.

Interesting.

How did you know the Nano was live-did your current one just stop working?

[Edit] - Just tested my Nano in my 4S and it's not live yet.

Spend 20mins on line to T-Mobile, they're a joke, no idea when the SIMs will be available.

Yep......customer services again telling me they don't exist on the system, and they have no idea when they'll be getting them.

The T-Mobile CS told me they're of no use since the phone's not released and I told her about Three handing them out with adapters and she shut up.

They should try spending some of their advertising budget on planning.
