The great UK nano sim swap

Sales have just confirmed that I can get a nano sim by monday if I sign up for a new contract, but I can't get a nano sim replacement. Apparently, they may get stock in this evening of replacement sims, but they're now sure. She did however say, that her local store has nano sims in now.

Off to call the local store.

The obvious answer would be to go in on Friday, but I'm working all next week, and I'll be unable to get to a store at all until the following Monday. They also won't allow me to send the wife in as the account holder needs to be present 😡

With which network?
 
I went to the 3 shop on Oxford street and they said the already have the nano's but won't start to sell them until the 22nd (i hope he at least meant the 21st). It's annoying as obviously other people have managed to get nano + adaptor from their 3 store.
 
Just walked into my local Three store (Blackpool) and was able to get a nano SIM with adapters for free

Not impressed, why can't they provide them AHEAD of time?

Went into O2 today in Norwich and they said they should be receiving the nano sims next week (Tue or Wed?), they advised me to come and get one before Friday as they come with an adapter, to revert them to micro size to fit in the iPhone 4S until my 5 arrives on Friday.

What surprised me more though was the old lady in front of me in the queue, who I thought must have been lost on her way to the bingo, asked the same question as she had also pre-ordered this morning!

I bet what's happening here is down to 2 reasons.

1. More and more people are ditching contracts and buying their phones sim free as contracts are tending more towards 24m and are very pricey and you often don't even get the phone free anymore. O2 are not interested in these customers as they are not tied in and they don't make as much money from them.

2. They have very limited stock of nano sims and don't wan't to run out on launch day for all the people coming in to get the iphone on contract.
 
I did want to switch to orange or T mobile (on giffgaff atm), but after ringing them both and being told they have no idea when nano sims will be available ive gone ahead and signed up with the 1 month sim only contract with three. Will see what they are like before i decide to stay or not.

What a sham...
 
Tesco will stock from 21st September

Tesco Mobile have confirmed they will stock the sims from 21st September:

Ainsley: Yes, you casn get the Nano SIM card with your contract and number on it.
Paul: Excellent. What would be the process for this? Phone customer services, or pop in store?
Ainsley: We'll be stocking the Nano SIM card from 21st September 2012. If you purchase the iPhone 5 elsewhere, for example directly from Apple, you'll need to contact us from Friday 21 September to order a Nano SIM card.

I don't know if this has already been posted but Orange told me I'll be able to buy a fresh Orange nano sim from the Apple store and my existing contract and number will be transferred over to it, as soon as I phone them.

So I phoned Apple store in Cambridge and the guy confirmed that this would be the case.
 
I am currently with GiffGaff and want to move to t-mobile. Would I be off getting a micro-sim for my 4S now and then try and replace it with a nano SIM on 21st or just hold fire and try and sign up with t-mobile (PAYG) on a nano sim on the 21st?
 
Hi everybody. Just spoke to a smaller and more remote O2 store and they told me that they are expecting stock of the nano sims imminently and to call back early next week and they will take care of transferring my O2 contract from the 3FF Sim to the nano there and then.

I am in contract and per ordered the iPhone 5 through apple online.
 
Orange on twitter have started saying that they'll have more info on getting hold of nano sims for current customers next week and they'll definitely be offering the service!

Better late than never...
 
For existing Three customers its free, not £5.11. I know a few have had to pay, but according to their twitter feed and my own experience (mine was free) you shouldn't have to pay. Not that it really matters, just saying.

Interesting, wonder if I'll be able to claim that back.

For info Three store Southampton do not have nano sims / aren't giving them out yet, I was told to come back next Wednesday.

Three store Eastleigh however have replacement nano sims and are selling them for £5.11. http://twitter.com/jackatjack/status/246898003338731520/photo/1
