Got my 3GS today (previously had the original) but have some minor annoyances.

Really fingerprinty in comparison with the original (god knows what the 3G must have been like if the 3GS is meant to be better)

Display contrast ratio appears to be worse than the original, blacks appear more white

Larger gap between surround and display leading to the display being 'framed' by a border of black plastic. The rest I can live with but I definitely do not like this.

On the plus side though the extra speed, storage, autofocus camera, video and voice control are brilliant and outweigh the gripes I have regarding the design of the 3G itself.

I have been postponing my iphone purchase since the first one launched over two years ago. I am the supreme apple evangelist amongst the people I know and I think I am the last to have an IPhone

Anyways, I walked into the main Fido store in Montreal's downtown area at around 9am and I think there was maybe an other 5 people there with me. Not sure if less people are buying or they have gotten extremely efficient at dealing with customers.

As they were filling up my credentials on the computer, they warned me that the systems were failing all across the country. "Just great" I thought to myself. But thankfully everything went through without a hitch!

Got to the office and registered and synced my new phone up.

I'm very happy to finally be an IPhoner. :)

I finally received mine at 4:00 PM today. Couldn't get it activated so I called AT&T and they were very helpful and had it activated in about 10 minutes. First thing I absolutely love the screen. It is really warm, sharp, and vibrant. Much better than my previous 3G. I'm very impressed with the speeds and the overall feel of the phone. It was definitely worth the upgrade for me. It doesn't seem like the wifi gets quite as good coverage as my 3G did. It shows less bars where I would normally get full strength or close to it. It doesn't seem to affect the speed much if any though. Overall I'm extremely pleased with it!

I got my 32GB about a hour and a half ago and absolutely love it. I am upgrading from a 2G iPhone so this is speed is even more amazing. Great pictures and video. I love the new speaker as well. I know some phones have had voice command for a while, but it's still cool. I think I made the right choice by not swithing to the Storm.

First impressions, from the iPhone 2G:

- Miss the bluer screen
- Kinda appreciated the recessed Home button
- Liked the smaller form factor + metal body of my old phone

I'm having issues activating the phone, so not really sure what to expect from 3G. I am kinda second-guessing myself, but my old iPhone was cracked, so I pretty much needed to upgrade.

I had some problem as well. I fixed mine by switching my SIM card from my old iphone to my new one. Works great now.

First impressions after using it for 15 min side by side my 2G iPhone.

AMAZING!!!!!

The speed is incredible. I notice it in every app, from load times to smoother graphics in games.

Well worth the purchase.

Just got mine

The process was ridiculous.
But compared to my 3g. It is definitely quicker in every way.

Definitely a nice change. It would have been nice if they matte finish would have followed through though

After I wrote that, the iPhone automatically activated after a final restart. Working great now =)

Still miss the bluer screen, though :(

the only beef

I can come up with is Voice Command Play My Chemical Romance Playing Great BIg Sea. Fine np I say PLay Great Big Sea Calling JR  makes me wonder if I have to go back to speech class!

everything else I fricking love though!

"Holy Sheeyat this thing is FAST" has been the one first impression that has lasted in the few hours I've had it so far.

Camera is, as the reviews say, not going to win awards for megapixel or lens size related quality but is FAR better than before and that new touch focus/exposure technique is going to be revolutionary.

The oleophobic(sp?) coating is _amazing_ .. I haven't been able to "see" it but the effects are obvious: it gets very little in the way of smudges at all and those it does get can be wiped off with a t-shirt sleeve with the same thorough squeaky-shiny-clean effect as a microfiber cloth (which is understandably no longer included). Quite a technology. Plz make iMacs from it kthx.

One bright pixel but really small / not a stand-out colour... I don't notice it unless looking for it, so not going to kick up a fuss.

Did I mention it's fast? Wow. Safari is *Blazing*, in fact I may even have to compare the performance with the desktop version. Long loading apps/games are slashed. Pinball Dreaming no longer stutters. Ambience 2.0 is finally usable. It's all very good stuff!

Difficult to find any criticism. Bright areas are a little smudgy/uneven on one of the edges? Probably just the LCD they've chosen... again not something you notice unless looking for flaws. The voice control is hopeless in my experience (YMMV) but I always expected it to be - I've never known good voice recognition yet. It gets embarassing when you have to explain to someone you haven't called in ages that you were simply trying to change music tracks and it ended up dialling them instead, so it's not something I'm likely to use.

Very much a worthy upgrade, from the 2G at least, probably so from the 3G for speed alone.

Honestly I think my first impression is just that I am impressed...

I was really wanting this phone for the video recording, and wasn't expecting to feel like had a completely different device in my hands, but I do. Everything is so fast! Even just opening an closing applications is remarkably faster, and I think it's something I will really appreciate in the long run.

One of the complaints I had about the original iPhone and the 3G wasn't the camera quality, but just how long it took the darn thing to open! By the time it finally came up my little brother or baby cousin or whomever was already done being cute/funny/stupid. Not so anymore, the camera opens almost twice as fast, and with 3.0 allowing you to set the double-click of the home button to the camera app it is just that much more convenient.

For a somewhat minor upgrade, I really am impressed...

My 1st iphone but I do own a 32 gb touch so I feel like I have had it for a while. So far I like it. The speaker volume is much better than my htc touch pro was. speaker phone volume is fine. External speaker sounds a little rough at too high of a volume when using the ipod. Battery life is still in question right now, but I have been playing with it all day. Fully charged to 30% in about 12 hours. So far compared to the touch pro I have been using for the last year, I'm happy with my purchase.

What a great thread! Mine was delivered today... but... to the hotel that I'll be checking into on Sunday! I was concerned that if delivery got pushed back to monday, I wouldn't be here to accept it - so it's waiting for me at the *** *** hotel in NY :D

Really, really terrific speed. It speeds up every single aspect of the iPhone system.

the ONLY issue I'm having is my Wifi signal seems to have weakened a lot. My wifi router is in the next room (literally 10 feet away, through one wall) and I have 1 bar on the 3G S and 5 full bars on the 3G

Anyone else seeing this?

Just got it as a family/Father's Day gift for hubby and me!!! The keyboard is still a bit frustrating, but I'm getting better at it. The speed is great. Synched worked right away. Looking forward to depleting the battery with videos and camera. All told, glad I waited for my 32GB, 3GS

yeah, like everyone else said, it's pretty f-in fast. going from a jailbroken 1st gen to this is great.

I believe the correct command would be " Play songs by My Chemical Romance" or "Play album by My Chemical Romance."

I received mine at about 9:00 this morning. I'm upgrading from a fairly plain flip phone. This thing is completely awesome in every way. I activated it myself in about 2 or 3 minutes. Everything downloaded correctly and the speed and the screen just blow my mind away. Every piece of Apple kit that I get just seems to get better, and the way they work seamlessly together is awesome. In the words of Rick Blaine in Casablanca "...... Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship." :D

There's no doubt that it's much faster all around.

The 3G network with full bars consistently is great.

The front screen is sweet. No need to put a protector on it.

Video is much better than I expected. Having the 32GB was necessary.

All the changes with the 3.0 OS are significant. Apple should make an official list of them.

I was going to wait until the next release, but was able to get the new phone for the upgrade price. It's just really sweet. The best phone of it's kind with all it can do. Apple has continued to raise the bar higher than anyone else can reach. Thank you :apple:!

Correct. I thought this thing was broken but once I realized you have to say "Play artist" or "Play album by" it all worked flawlessly. Silly that one word throws the entire system out of whack.

Cool thing, though, is that if it does make a mistake, as soon as the lady finishes talking you can say "No" or "Nope" and it will cancel the command.

Love mine! I thought the switch from my first gen to the 3GS was incredibly easy. I have been playing with it since I got it.

The only issue I have is that my visual voicemail is not working. When I hit the voicemail button the phone calls voicemail instead. Any ideas?

I had the same issue. It took three calls to ATT to get it going. Call them. (ask for Joe lol)
