the compass doesnt work while driving..or atleast it didnt for me..kept saying it couldnt calibrate cuz of interference...

wtf?

anyone else?

You actually shouldn't need the compass while driving if the maps application were written correctly. The GPS is able to determine the direction in which you are heading based on triangulation of the satellites combined with your movement. This is what TomTom does and I'm sure will do when they release their app. Perhaps Apple will add this feature at some point as well.

Love mine! I thought the switch from my first gen to the 3GS was incredibly easy. I have been playing with it since I got it.

The only issue I have is that my visual voicemail is not working. When I hit the voicemail button the phone calls voicemail instead. Any ideas?

If you haven't already try reseting the phone. That did the trick for me.

i also had the same VM problem for a few minutes. i checked and deleted all my VMs then got a message to type in my password. after that VVM started working properly.

Was on the fence to upgrade to the 3G S. Got caught up in the hype and went down to ATT and upgraded. Suprised they still had 16gb ones available. Been using it for a couple of hours now and i am glad i upgraded. noticeably faster than the 3G.

to enable battery percentage go to usage and then turn on battery percentage. :) so stoked on this feature too.

Thanx for this! I've been looking everywhere! So sweet!

And here's how my day was:

I pre-ordered June 12th at AT&T. I was told I would have to wait 7-10 days from order date. Cool.

I get a call yesterday afternoon stating my iPhone has arrived. About 10 minutes later, I get an email. (On my 1st gen iPhone)I thought; Great!

So this morning I called in (work) and headed to AT&T at 6:15. They had told me in the phone call they would open at 7:00 am for people who pre-ordered. So we pull up (friend with me, who also pre-ordered) and see a line of about 15 people. To be honest, I was expecting more.

Because it's before 7, I thought people knew they were opening early because of pre-orders. We were parked right in front of AT&T and the people in line kept staring. Around 6:30, 2 more people show up, so we decide to get out the car and stand in line. Of course, more staring. Dunno why. lol

15 mins pass and an employee comes out. He asks who pre-ordered. Only my friend and I raise our hands! Everyone, AGAIN, is staring at us! Haha, they looked mad. That's what they get for mean-mugging. lol

So they open the store at 7 on the dot and we pass up everyone in line. I overheard some people say they had gotten there at 5 - ouch.

The process takes about 15 mins, and I'm out the door by 7:15, new iPhone 3G S in hand. For the fourth and final time, people stare as we walk out with our phones. It's kind of sad that we didn't have to wait that long. We were literally there for only an hour! Even sadder is that fact that about 10 AT&T employees and a hot woman cop, were laughing at people in line, calling them "normals." Wow.

:)

This is my first iphone I absolutely love it especially since I can tether and do MMS. This phone is like no other phone I have ever had! It sure beats a blackberry anyday

Waited from 3:30 am outside my store was 5th in line on the non reserve line lol my store actually ended up havin a line that was about 80 people long by the time the doorS opened. other then waiting so long the process was awesome fast and flawless. This is my first iPhone and am absolutely loving it. So far the camera Is about on par with my htc fuze and I have gotten every feature to work flawlessly. Really happy with my purchase and wishing I had had an iPhone from gen 1. Overall this phone is just perfect and I am happy that I waited a while outside the Apple store for it.

in-ear headphones

I absolutely love my new 32gb black 3GS much like a child.

I'm so happy that the apple in-ear headphones I purchased for my 3G actually control the volume.

I thought that they would fix that in general with the 3.0 update. Still won't control volume on headphone remote on 3G running 3.0. But will work on 3GS!! I know it's a little thing, but it's worth loads to me!

I'm loving my iPhone. Initially I thought that it wouldn't arrive on time, since my Fedex tracking did not update in 23 hours. It just stated "Information received from sender." However, Apple pulled through and I received my iPhone around 2:30pm. I was so excited that I could not sleep the night prior to the arrival. When I finally had it in my hands, I was so elated!

This is my first iPhone. I was waiting for the phone to improve drastically before I decided to purchase one. My previous phone was a Tilt (HTC 8925). It was a decent phone. However, it was laggy and eventually became very frustrating to use. This iPhone is extremely fast, and I love it! What I love most is the apps. I'm going through some, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the process.

Beware!

WiFi reception on this phone seems to be pretty bad compared
to the 3G.

I have read complaints earlier in this thread, and I can see it
for myself as well. Within my home, one room away from the
router, I only get 1 bar of signal (as opposed to 5).

I'm not sure if this has already been pointed out, but to me, it seems like the chrome bezel of the 3GS has a slightly thicker initial edge to it, than the 3G.

I didn't get one, but I went into my O2 at 9 yesterday (Friday) and there was only one person buying one, and 2 people outside the store looking at the poster. There weren't any on display though, and the 3Gs have been taken off display also. I felt kinda jealous of the guy who got one :(

In-Ear Headphones & 3G S

I got a small question:

If you have Apple In-Ear Headphones, can you verify whether the volume controls (in the control capsule on the cable) work with iPhone 3G S?

(With 3G, even with 3.0 software, they don't.)

Thanks in advance

Edit: Ah, sorry, this was already answered above. :)

Has anyone else noticed that the calculator app is different than on the 3G. The background between the keys on the 3G S is greyer and has texture. Either that or my old 3G screen is too dark to show the texture.

The perfect phone. So much faster then my 2G on Tmobile.
The data network in at&t is so much faster the tmobile edge.
I can actually use the browser now!

Any Audiophiles?

So, i understand that the speaker is better, and that is obviously a big plus. What about the microphone though?
Has anyone tried any thirdpart recording applications? If so, how is the quality of the recordings?
What about the native record app? Different settings for quality? 44khz/16 bits?
What about the DA converter? How is the sound quality out when using customs headphones?

Cheers!

S.

I don't know if this is a 3.0 bug or a 3GS bug. But if you listen to a podcast on 2x speed the scrub bar doesn't seem to keep up.

I'm impressed with the quality of the video. I also was curious as to the size of video files so i did a 10 second recording and emailed it to myself. It said it was compressing it and the file size was 1 meg. So 1 minute would be about 6 megs and an hour would be 360megs. But my question is has anyone looked to see if the file on the phone itself is not compressed. I haven't had a chance to sync my phone to look at the file itself?

First impression!

I love it, I finally upgraded from the first gen iPhone, the difference here is night and day! The compass is awesome and the voice dialing works well! I got the white 16GB and I love the feel of it in my hand!!

Can someone tell me that if I used the backup with my old iPhone when I activated the phone should my usage times revert back to 00:00 or will it stay the same as it was from mylast iPhone and also how do you close down programs now? And also do I need to pay 4.99 a month to AT&T to use the voice control? Thanks guys!

I am completely happy with my purchase. Some things to note...

The chrome bezel around the case seems to be implemented way better than my 3G. It fits seamlessly into the case and I can barely even feel it there at all when running my finger of it. It feels like one solid phone. And on that same note, the home button is the same way. It almost feels like more of a dent in the plastic instead of an actual button. On my 3G, all of the edges were rough and they stuck out. It feels like a lot more care went into making the 3GS.
