I'm betting that after a few weeks, Apple will come to its senses and give away the plug adapters. A strong part of the Apple ecosystem is that everyone already has cables lying around and you can always count on finding what you need even when you're far from home. It's one thing to switch connectors, but I'm sure they could have simple charging adapters produced for 25 cents a pop that would avoid submarining their entire ecosystem of existing cables.

Give away when so many people are waiting just to shell out $30 a pop for one? I wish...

I was at the store in the Brea Mall in California on Saturday and they had a lot of USB to Lightning cables in stock... For a few minutes. On my way out I saw a man purchasing what looked to be 20-30 of them. I think he cleaned them out.

Bought 5 lightning-USB cables at the Apple store at Christiana Mall in Newark, DE. And no sales tax.

What is the purpose of ordering/buying so many??

I went to the Apple store in La Cantera (San Antonio) and they had plenty of the lightning cables in stock!

Also to add. I ordered two lightning adapters on 09/25/12 and this morning they shipped them already. Online it said 2-3 weeks but they have already been shipped in less than 24 hrs. Give it a try.

Just order some online for pick up at Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto. It is also available at the Palo Alto downtown store as well.

I got 2 cables before the phone showed up. I need more. Going to the Apple Store at Partridge Creek in Michigan today. I asked at an AT&T store yesterday and was told they don't have them yet.

$20-30 for a $2 cable. You have to be kidding me. Why can't apple ever get us some cheap cables? And release a product without needed supporting stock?!?!?!

I think the price is actually $20, and reports show that it costs at least $3.50 to manufacturer. That doesn't include packaging, shipping, overhead, ect.

Not saying that $20 is necessarily reasonable, but it's not as cheap as the prior interface.

I ordered online on Friday when the listed wait time was 2-3 weeks and I got them delivered on Monday.

Stupid question..

Sorry why is everyone buying extra cable and adapters when it comes with the iphone? I'm new to iphone. =( Would really like to know. Thanks!

1 cable comes with the phone and some people need more for various reasons.
The Lightning to 30-Pin Adapter does not come with the phone.

We are talking about the 30 pin to lightning adapter not just the power adapter? My apple store said those don't come out til October sometime. I know the lightning cables are all over the place but I don't believe the adapter most need for their old accessories to work is out yet. Please clarify this for me.

Ordered the $19 cable online for pickup at Grand Central on Monday. Since I was just popping in for a quick pickup, I didn't see if they had any "on the shelf".

Do the cables come with the white square part that goes in the wall or are those sold separately? I want both for work so I don't have to carry my one and only to work.

Or you can just plug it into a computer. It will charge more slowly than if it's plugged into the cube, but one less thing to buy and keep up with.

Walked into my local apple store this past Saturday the 22nd and they had ample lightning cords and adapters in the store. Grabbed one, self checkout, gone. 5 minutes.

I ordered a lightning cable from the Apple website two days ago, even though the website states it will ship in 2-3 weeks. Today I got an email saying it had shipped and I should have it in a few days. Also ordered 2 adapters, but no word about them (website states they will ship in October).
