You can check online to see if your local Apple Store has the USB-Lightning cables in stock.

Just to to this Apple Store Link and click "Add to Cart" then select "Pick Up in store" and enter your zip code. It will tell you if its in stock at several Apple Stores around you.

I was in the Destiny USA store last night and they had all kinds of lightning cables and adapters in stock on the rack.

I'm going to be picking up a 0.2 m lightning adapter and a lightning usb cable for a grand total of 60 bucks for my car. Ouchies, but oh well, I love the new connector. It clicks in nicely and doesn't feel like it would snag or break easily.

Congratulations. You have been to the only store in the world that has adapters on the shelves.

Not that I don't believe you but how about a pic next time?

Thanks.

Why? either you believe him or not. Get on the horn and call the store and have them confirm. :)

Sure I believe him.
I bet he also saw a unicorn walking around the store.

Some folks should *read* more & post less IMO.

Clearly not aimed at you Zimmy, as you clearly get it amigo. Others ...... well let's just say some never will.

I could be mistaken but my understanding was MR's forums exist in large part to share solid & validated information, sharing good intel if you will.

I think the reason we are seeing USB cables and not adapters in stock is Apple is prioritizing the USB cables since more people need them.

With a USB to lightning cable, you can use your phone. The adapters on the other hand are for additional functionality, such as using accessories.

Best to get the basic cable into as many needy hands as possible, then start making the luxury toys.

Must be adapters, because I spent a couple of hours on the phone calling several Apple Stores in SoCal. None have had adapters in stock yet. They're all quoting the same October date.

Thought so. Did any of them quote a specific October date? I need one bad for my car.

Wow, my bad I totally missed the whole discussion here. They were NOT adapters, sorry.

No worries

Nope, no one knew a specific date beyond "October."

I need one bad for my car.
Me too. My car's stereo has a hard-wired 30-pin cable, and I can't get an adapter, and I can't get a date for the audio company to release a Lightning cable for replacement. I'm pretty much screwed right now. :(

I use a cd changer kit with a 30-pin cable so I need an adapter for that (hopefully it works?). My $80 proclip dock is now useless as well

Oh, man, if it's late October, I'm going to scream.

I'm 95% the adapter will work until I can get a dedicated cable. I threw my iPhone 4/4S specific car mount in with the sale, along with the dock. I'll miss them both, but they're useless to me, and my friend will get a lot of good use out of both.

She's very excited; she's been waiting to buy my iPhone since hers broke in June! She has waaaaay more willpower than I.

I plan on buying another proclip pass-through holder so I may end up waiting on the release of that. I'm hoping they have an option for a 30pin input rather than lightening. Then I could skip the adapter all together. iPhone accessories... ugh...

I wouldn't trust those "October" dates from apple. I think they are there just to slow down the order rate or something, but they obviously don't mean crap.

I was reading in this thread that people were purchasing them even though they said "October delivery" and then got it the next week.

So just ordered a lightning cable on the website (which said october delivery) and that was two days ago. Welp, its already in transit, and ill be receiving it today.

As bad as the iPhone 5 sucks down the battery, it's no longer a wireless device.;)
It has to be plugged in all the time and you are going to need 10 lightning cables and adapters.
