I guess I was just confident knowing that there are 2 apples stores near my home and 1 near my office. In a large city. So I was pretty confident there would be no issue.

I just got back from Grand Central, NYC. I placed my online pickup at around 3:15 am, didn't get a notice until 9 am that it was ready. Friend ordered at 6 am, she's not getting hers today. Whilst I was there, I heard a genius say to some customers that they are all out of 16gbs. NYC, city of crazies I suppose. :)

Meanwhile, for those going to Grand Central thinking to sneak out of work for 20 min, go during lunch break. I went at 9:30 am and still waited an hour. Line to get in, line in the store (and I bypassed the walk-ins!), and unholy amount of wait time to actually find my order with my name on it. But I am now happily staring at my new iPad air. Ish so purty!! :D

Just got back from the Apple Store in Lake Grove, NY. The store was PACKED but I simply walked over to the genius bar, told a guy there I had in store pickup for the iPad Air and he ushered me right to a sales guy.

He was really nice and we had a good conversation for about 5 minutes about ripping movies with Handbrake and stuff. He was an older dude... very fun to talk to. We chatted while I waited for another guy to bring my iPad Air from the back. The guy almost DROPPED it when handing it to the salesman I was speaking to and the guy gave him the most evil eye ever! LOL

He handed me his iPhone to sign for it and then we chatted for another 10 minutes just for kicks.

He told me that the iPad Air is in huge supply and it wasn't even necessary to stay up till 3am to order it. I could of walked in at that same moment at 11:30am and purchased the same iPad Air right there even with the store packed like that. But I told him I didn't want to take the chance just in case the rumors about ample supply were false. He laughed and said he understood.

He also told me that they plan to do in launch day in store pickup for future devices and get rid of the pre-order model altogether. Since it went well this time. But he said with the iPad Mini Retina you'll have to be one of the lucky few to actually order one... and thats when you'll really have to be up at 3am.

We shook hands and I walked out with my new 128GB iPad Air... I started feeling self conscious carrying a hugely noticeable Apple bag... clearly shaped like an iPad. So I quickly walked back to my car LOL.

Safe to say... I played with it in store for a bit while waiting and loved it then. I love it even more having my own brand new one!

Walked into best buy about 10:30 am and picked up the Verizon 16gb space grey and the wife a 16gb silver no problems. Guy at the store said they have plenty. That said I was going to get a 32gb but they didn't have any in space grey only silver. Didn't want silver as my 5s is space grey.

Walked in to best buy this morning, no line, left 5 mins later with a 16gb space grey ipad.

Ordered at 3:02 this morning. Couldn't do in store pick up as my local Apple Store didn't have the a 64gb Verizon Space Grey available as an option. Going to the store and trying to buy wasn't an option as I got 10% off for using my Discover Card to buy it from the online site (5% for linking through Discover's site to Apple and another 5% for any online orders through December). I'll have it Monday, so that's not too bad.

I ordered an Air from ATT after 3am this morning (oh boy it's going to be a rough day after being up most of the night), and ATT is telling me "ships 11/6-11/8". So i guess ATT must not have gotten very many. Mine was 16b silver + cellular, so should have been a high stock one.

I'm in Canada... Stopped by a local FutureShop, and the only units they were shipped was the 16GB black. They even opened up the store early (8am instead of 10)... Fools!

So I drove the extra 20 minutes to the nearest Apple store, got in and out in probably 10 minutes. No line ups, no waiting. Had to talk to a "greeter", who directed me to a "ticket holder", who finally handed me off to a genius who actually got me my iPad and processed my payment. Whatever... They were out of the 128GB models already, about an hour after the store opened. I got the 64GB black LTE model I wanted, so I was good.

As an FYI, this was in the Edmonton area (downtown Futureshop, Southgate Apple store).

I'm happy... Got my iPad charging even as we speak. Avoiding playing with it, as I'm supposed to be working. :)

Clint.

Got to Walmart at 7:50 and stood in line behind 3 other guys waiting for 8:00 to roll around. The registers wouldn't let them ring one up until exactly 8:00. Kind of silly. #3 in line wanted a 128 GB, which they didn't have. Only 16 and 32, and only 2 32's. Both guys ahead of me bought 2 each. With my one, Walmart now has 5, and the phone was ringing for them. $479.

I'm impressed with it. Very light and fast. With a Smart Cover it should still be very light.

This whole thing has been a trip. Long time Apple user but never before purchased on a launch day. Ordered online just after 12:01 and now have my email saying it's ready for pick-up. It was way too easy to drop that heart palpitating chunk of change.

Now imbibing scads of coffee to wake up and make the drive.
Still can't believe many of us are getting ours the same day WITHOUT standing in line during the wee hours. Fun times, eh?

ok, So I changed my mind

I had previously posted that I had decided not to get the iPad Air an wait one mroe year before upgrading my 3rd Gen iPad. But as it happens my neice would like one for Xmas and my sister is willing to match what Gazelle will give me minus my contribution so I pulled the trigger.

Went to Best Buy, Paramus this AM, no line at the store, walked in, got my iPad and walked out. I did not get the LTE version this time as I didn't use it enough to warrant the extra expense, besides I have free tethering with my cell phone.

Ordered at 3:06, and I just got my pickup email. Missed my pre-work and lunch windows. But, I'll have it for the ride home at least.

!!Whew!!
I completed my transaction at 3:02 - 128GB/black/Verizon.
email at 6:31 saying it was ready for pickup. Showed up exactly at 8am when store opened. 2 lines, one for pick up and the other for the in line over-nighters.
Must have been about 25 of them. Seemed like I had to wait for a while for them to "open the box and get one". A while being about 15 -20 mins. Finally got mine and left to go set it up. I am at work and have to wait to get home for all the apps to download. :apple:

Spacey gray is really popular. I wouldve thought white would be more popular.

I haven't had a chance to see the space gray one yet, but I did see the white one and it just looked too much like the same old iPad to me. I was really torn, but having seen the white/silver now I think I made the right choice.

Having had every iteration of the iPad, this is definitely the best upgrade to the brand since it's inception. I've been waiting for it to get slightly smaller and this is now the perfect size. Comfy in every position in the hand, and lighting fast.

Quite happy I sold my ipad 4 a few weeks ago. :)

This is how I feel too also having owned every single iPad.

I just picked up an Air for myself, and for significant other.

Went to BestBuy to get a price match with Walmart. The guy at the counter had to fight with management for the price match though. Finally, as the manager reluctantly punched in the approval code, he told the cashier that this was the "last time we are price matching for the iPads." Gotta love best buy.

Full disclosure, I ONLY bought the iPads at BestBuy due to the 18 month financing deal they run. While I have the money to pay for them upfront, it makes things a little easier to spread the purchase amount over a few months. (I don't think i've ever taken a purchase the full 18 months).

ordered online this morning for in store pickup. once i got the email that it was ready i called to cancel since I wanted to get the cellular version instead. I paid partially with gift cards but they haven't been refunded yet!!

So I didn't realize that I could get an EPP discount so I cancelled my shipment order then did an in store pickup at 11am, got an email at noon that it was ready and headed to the store by 1pm. No line, was in and out in 5 minutes.

Just ordered an iPad Air from Apple by phone, and the delivery date is Friday November 8th. Ordered space/gray 128gb cellular. Sure gonna be a long week waiting. :).

I did the in store pick-up option for two iPad Air(s) with SmartCase(s) and AppleCare+ at 12:01 AM this morning. By 4:14 AM all items except the Space Grey 128GB AT&T. I went to the Apple Store after 12 noon and was able to pick up the items that were ready at 4:14 AM. The 128GB Space Grey was still processing. The associate said it could be end of day before its ready because there were higher than expected in store pick-up. She confirmed there was stock for the 128GB Space Grey, but it was a preparation issue. Confused how the rest of my order was prepared so separately.
