Upset about the whole SSD mess but...

But placed my order for a :

3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (Buying 8GB more from NewEgg)

2TB Serial ATA Drive (Really wanted SSD but alas, not keen on waiting till mid-June.)

AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB

I'll just figure out a solution for SSD, maybe Ill be brave and swap it or just wait for a TB drive option in a month or so.

Just bought my first desktop ever, the brand new Sand Bridge version iMac :) only the base tho, 2.5 i5 processor 4gb Ram and 500 gb HD.

Wow, its awesome. Loving everything about it thus far.

Just a quick question. Do BTO iMacs come with BTO boxes? For example, if you get an Core i7, will it be reflected on the outer box? How about if you opt for a Magic Trackpad instead of a Magic Mouse?

The pretty Apple box is encased inside a plain brown box so don't worry.

Please restate your Magic Trackpad question, can't figure what you are trying to find out.

Just ordered the i7 with 2gb 6970m can't wait. Wish they just made all configurations available in store....

just ordered:

Refurbished iMac 27-inch 2.8GHz Intel Quad-Core i5 processor

Saved almost £300 on what the price was yesterday!

So exciting

Hey guys,

I hope someone can help me over here. I am going for my first ever iMac, the 27" one.

The standard RAM and Processor are more then enough for me, though I am not sure about the graphiccard. Are 512MB enough or shall I go for 1024MB? Let me rephrase, for what do I need 1024MB for? I like watching movies, I type a lot of documents (mainly spreadsheets), surf the interenet and play some simple games.

Last question, is the CD drive blocked with a region code? I have loads of region 1 DVD's but I live in a region 2 country, will I have problems playing them on the iMac?

Thanks a lot for now...

Hello-

I wouldn't be too concerned about GPU memory, for your work load. Either one will work just fine - but by the same token, keep your future in mind too, meaning... if you're thinking you might play more complex games in the next 3 years, you'll want the 1024MB VRAM.

In answer to your final question: Yes. All DVD drives must be set to a region code, and furthermore you can't just change the region code at will.

Sorry if I was being unclear. If you go to the Apple store and buy a 27" iMac with base configuration, the side of the box will list the features. I am talking about the retail box with the pretty picture of the iMac on the outside. For example on the side it will list a Core i5, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, etc.

If you order it online and customize an iMac with a Core i7, 16GB RAM, and a 2TB HDD, will it list those exact components? Do they print a special customized outer box as well?

Usually on the box it will say what is included such as a Magic Mouse. If you order the Magic Trackpad, will the box list it?

That is what I bought myself for Christmas. Great machine. Obviously a faster newer machine would be faster and newer, but I can't see how it would be better for me at thsi time.
Refubs are the way to go.

Thank you for your help. I am going for the 27" with 2.7Ghz. I can't wait ;-)

Nice, i ordered nearly the same:
- AppleCare Protection Plan for iMac
- 27-inch iMac
- 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
- 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
- 1TB Serial ATA Drive
- AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1GB GDDR5
- Apple Magic Mouse
- Apple Remote
- Apple Wireless Keyboard (dutch)
- Accessory Kit (?god knows what this is, it just popped up on the list)

& also paid using a banktransfer, whats waiting 3 more days or so if you've been waiting for over a month anyway right.

(ps: @the gfx card, i never play any games, so.. dont really need a better one)

Nice

Just curious, did you recieve a payment confirmation yet? I don't like the fact that my money is 'nowhere' at the moment

My order has shipped, it said it would ship in 3 business days, but shipped today and be here by Friday here in the UK.

This may give hope to people who had a long wait in the shipping estimates.

I'll be checking the tracking number with UPS to see how long it will take to get here.

Just ordered last night:

27in Imac
3.4 i7
6970 2gbvram
4gb ddr3 (having 16gb coming from OWC)
2tb hdd

I opted against the ssd because I did not feel like waiting till mid June .. plus the machine is still going to be fast regardless .. plus the SSDs were kind of expensive .. maybe next refresh Ill get one with a SSD

I just got an email confirmation about my order and it says schedule delivery is the 6th-10th .. so maybe this friday

I'll just be patient then

any one have any idea to why my UPS states my iMac is shipping from Ireland to here in England? It says the origin destination is in Cork Ireland.

I always thought apple shipped from china

Maybe they are storing them in a warehouse - one would think that they have brought a boatload (literally) to market since they are larger items. Having them already available in bulk local to the market where they are being sold makes sense monetarily and logistically.

I have just placed my order:

3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
2TB Serial ATA Drive
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5
Magic Trackpad
Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (English) & User's Guide
Accessory Kit

Plus I ordered an Epson All-in-one wireless printer taking advantage of the rebate - I have a B&W laser currently but having a color printer / scanner would be nice...plus it only cost me $44 after rebate. :D

yes probably come to think of it, would make sense to have a warehouse

I'm looking forward to getting my new iMac sometime in the next few days. I was hoping to pick it up at my local Apple store, but they don't carry the 21.5" model with an i7 processor, so instead I ordered it online.
2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive
AMD RadeonHD 6770M 512MB GDDR5
APPLE MAGIC MOUSE
Apple WL Kybd (English)+User's
COUNTRY KIT,IMAC
I also ordered 2 x 4 GB from Amazon.com to add to this, giving me a total of 12 GB which will be fantastic!

where do you find the 'Accessory Kit'? My order didn't list it..

i just went to the order status page & checked my order details. On the email i recieved & when i first ordered it, it said accessory kit on the list.

now, on the order status, i see 'COUNTRY KIT,IMAC-IEA', so maybe accessory kit basicly means the correct power-cables for certain regions etc ? (im from belgium).

@above post:
Does the imac have 2 or 4 ram-slots ? i thought it only had 2

Just bit the bullet and ordered mine. Hopefully it will ship sooner than 4-6 weeks I can not wait for all that increased screen real estate coming from my 15" MBP.

3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
MEMORY 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
HARD DRIVE 2TB Serial ATA Drive+256GB SSD
GRAPHICS AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5
MOUSE MAGIC TRACKPAD

Cheers to everyone,
Mike

mine sais 'COUNTRY KIT,K60/K62' (dutch), but an accessory kit is not listed anywere. Ah well, i suppose it's the cleaning cloth, OSX installation discs and indeed the powercable.

From what I've read online, it has 4 slots.

When you customize a system on Apple's web site, one of the memory expansion options is 16 GB (4 x 4 GB). That's only available as a configuration choice when building a 27" iMac, but I'm hoping that the 21.5" iMac also has 4 memory slots.
