The "I just ordered/bought/got my new/refurb iMac" thread [merged]

ordered but have a wait

I'm in Korea and ordered the 27" imac yesterday at 6 am. I was hoping to beat the rush. Turns out there is a 4 week wait. I already expected this but the price was $4-500 more than the US as well.

Well, the silver lining is that all of you that are getting theirs right away will be able to test these new models and work out the kinks so mine will be perfect when it finally gets here.

Did you BTO with SSD? If yes, that's probably the reason for the wait.
From what I've seen, people who didn't add SSD should be receiving theirs May 12-16, but those who added SSD have a 4-6 week wait.

If you order it online and customize an iMac with a Core i7, 16GB RAM, and a 2TB HDD, will it list those exact components? Do they print a special customized outer box as well?

Usually on the box it will say what is included such as a Magic Mouse. If you order the Magic Trackpad, will the box list it?

Yes it will state on the outside of the box what is inside.

Just ordered my 3rd iMac! (since the original iMac in 1999 and the iMac G4 in 2002) have been using a late 2006 macbook pro since.

8 GB Ram (not from apple)
6970M with 2GB VRAM
1TB HDD + 256GB SSD

Bummer i have to wait 4-6 weeks though, but i guess it's worth it!

Ordered my first iMac :)

3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1GB GDDR5
Apple Magic Mouse
Apple Wireless Keyboard (Nederlands) & Gebruikershandleiding (Nederlands)
Apple Battery Charger
Accessory Kit
AppleCare Protection Plan voor iMac

+ 4gb extra memory ordered somewhere else

I went to my local apple store yesterday lunchtime, no sign of the new iMacs... They hoped to get some in the late afternoon, but maybe not until this morning. Would I like to wait? No I said, I will come back later.

Popped in a few times, no sign of the delivery. 4.15pm... DELIVERY!!! Took them a while to bring it through, but soon I had my new baby: The top standard spec 27" iMac.

I asked if they would swap the magic mouse for a trackpad, as this was an option on the apple store... The guy went away, and came back with one. They wouldn't swop it, but they gave it to me for free instead. Excellent service!! £60 saving (or rather not having to pay for my impatience!)

Lovely machine, going for a nice clean install and gradually copying things over from my old Powerbook G4. At nearly 7 years old it has earned a quiet life.

Hope you all enjoy your new machines as much as I am going to.

Is this standard procedure? Can anyone from the US also confirm?

I have had my 27 imac for about 4 days and what a learning curve, still fumbling around at the minute, no complaints just different :D

How have you had it for 4 days? New iMacs have only been out for 2 days

No. I asked and they said I could only get the trackpad if I ordered online. I wasn't going to wait a week to save $60 on an accessory and since I didn't have a magic mouse already I just bought the machine and figured I'd get a trackpad later.

Tomorrow is the day, I can't wait no longer ;-) I even cleared my desk already…

Does any one know how hard or easy it is to transfer my data (from a PC) to my new iMac, especially my iTunes library?

You realize that you missed the increased processor speed for the same cost by 2 days, right?

If it were me, I'd return the one I had just bought and then turn around buy the new model equivalent for the same price and get a speedier computer as a result!

That RAM is such a waste. $100 later at Newegg, watch as people start sticking 8GB of 1600 RAM in and selling the stock RAM.

Then you should get an apple TV too. It syncs it all up to your TV plus streams Netflix!

I just ordered a 27 inch quad i5, 4g ram, 1 tb. My 17" inch core duo died last week.

I was looking at it last week and the cost was 1699. I left it in my cart. I went back today and the price dropped $250 so I had to buy it!

2 questions:
1. Anyone know why the dramatic drop in price?
2. Anyone know how long it generally takes and where the refurbished imacs ship from? I'm in the San Francisco bay area.

The price drop in the refurbished iMacs is due to the update on May 3rd. Not sure where they ship from but I ordered a refurbished 27" quad core i7 on the 4th and was quoted a delivery date of 12th with standard shipping (I live on the east coast). Also just ordered 16gb ram upgrade from OWC.

Just got confirmation from apple that it shipped and will arrive Saturday. They must be shipping it out of Cali.

I had no idea they deliver on Saturdays. Sweet!

Today after work, I bought the high-end 21.5" iMac at the Best Buy with the 2 year Geek Squad service plan by my home and I opened up a Best Buy credit card account that offered 18 months no interest payment plan. I also bought the Apple wired keyboard with a $50 rebate Visa gift card. So far I'm happy with this iMac and liked it better than my Asus N61JQ-X1 laptop with the Intel i7-720QM CPU. Come to think of it I might end up selling my Asus laptop because its 99.99% on my desk, and also I will be selling my Xbox 360 that I bought 11 months ago because I don't use that much and I lost interest in playing videogames.

Before I made my decision on the iMac, I was planning to buy the Dell XPS 8300 tonight through www.dell.com but changed my mind when I saw it at Best Buy, because it was falling apart and had the famous "Blue Screen of Death".

So far I don't think that I have the yellow tint problem on my iMac, if I do have it; it may unnoticeable. I hope that I made the right decision on purchasing the iMac.

The bad thing about Best Buy's service plan is the 2-3 week turn around.

Congratulation on your purchase ;-) My iMac has been shipped too, it should arrive today. I am sooo excited ;-)))

I got my low end 27" on Tuesday. ;D I was planning on ordering online, but my husband went out and picked one up at an apple store while I was at work to surprise me. The service he received at the store was lousy. I think I want to complain on his behalf.
