I received my Imac 21,5 base model with 256GB SSD yesterday. It was already in the new package and Mavericks preinstalled. I must say this thing is awesome, so perfect. I am very satisfied with overall quality. Was assembled and shipped from Ireland. :)

I'm curious, just it say Made in Ireland in the back ?

On the package of the Mac it says assembled in Ireland. It was shipped from Cork like most Imacs do. Altho I doubt the quality is somewhat better, but it feels like more quality if it is assembled in EU and not China like most stuff with :apple: Logo :D

Just pull the trigger on a 27" i7 3.5Ghz w/ 512Gb SSD. Pretty excited to upgrade from early 2008 model! I went with the trackpad option since I already have the magic mouse. Which do most people seem to prefer?

Well...I ended returning two 27 inch i5, 1tb fusion, and 780m versions because of screen issues ( yellow screen, chips in screen) and ended up working out a deal so that I could go to my local apple store and purchase a 27 inch, i7, 3tb fusion, 780m version. So far, this one is great. I'm tired if the hassle of exchanging, so I hope this is it. To their credit, they gave me credit for my SuperDrive, so that offset the upgrade price a little. Fingers crossed I can just keep this one.

Ordered a 21.5" / i5 2.7 GHz / 8 GB / 1 TB Fusion Drive / Magic Trackpad on 24 November at night. Switched to Preparing for shipment on 26 November at night. Now waiting for the tracking number so I can stalk the parcel (express delivery).

I'm switching from a rMBP to iMac + iPad. Will probably add two external monitors, most likely some Dell U2212HM's, said to match the 21.5" in size.

I am very excited that my similar machine has been ordered on Friday and will be ready Dec 12 :) 27", i5 3.2ghz, 512mb SSD. The SSD upgrade was a splurge but well worth it in my mind since I am going to be running a Windows VM too and need room for expansion.

Almost 8 weeks and no delivery, is normal?

I have ordered iMac 27" 3.5GHz/24G RAM/256SSD/GTX 780MX from Belgium through a Premium Dealer, it was ordered on October 12, has been almost 8 weeks and no delivery until now, is this normal?

When I emailed the dealer they replied after 2 days saying that is still in production because Apple has problems to deliver the new graphic card

Ordered 27" I7, 780, 500GB SSD, 8GB RAM - now the wait begins .. big decision is whose extra 16GB of memory to buy and what Thunderbolt storage solution to get.

Delivered on 28 November. Everything's perfect, I absolutely love this machine.

My first impressions were: wow, this build quality reminds me of why I still buy Apple computers to date, not to mention the delicious smell of fresh aluminium. Turning it on, oh the image quality, watching videos is going to be a pleasure (and it is). Then, the sound quality, blown away, didn't expect that. And in general, coming from a portable (rMBP), it's so much more comfortable to sit and type on a desktop machine. I feel liberated, not cramped anymore, way more productive. Not having to worry about heat, battery or disk space -- going from 256 GB of pure SSD to 1 TB Fusion Drive -- is a welcome convenience. Very glad I switched .

Update: Unexpectedly, Wi-Fi throughput (802.11n, 5 GHz) is also greatly enhanced, from 12-14 MB/s to 16-18 MB/s from the same location.

Ordered my first iMac yesterday!

I ordered the 27" iMac with 3.2FHz quad core core i5, 8gb of RAM (will upgrade
to 32gb with memory from crucial when I get the money), 256gb SSD.

Something tells me that it will ship before my MacBook Pro 13" with Retina that I ordered back on November 17th.

I ordered on Dec. 3rd: 3.5 i7, 1 TB Fusiondrive, 775M 2GB graphics, 8GB RAM. I´ll upgrade the RAM to ≥16GB within the next few months, 8 gigs will do fine until then. I was on the fence if I should get a Mac Pro, but I kinda dont really need that much power and the 27" display is a nice bonus. I´ll mostly use it for editing photos/videos in Lightroom/Photoshop/Final Cut Pro X, doing layouts with InDesign, some gaming in bootcamp and the usual mail/web/business stuff. Oh and finally watching HD movies on an appropriate Display!

Anyone knows what Apple does if a 2012 motherboard dies? Or whatever breaks that requires a replacement? Do they send you a 2013 with equivalent specs or do they have 2012 still in stock (different models, BTOs and such)?

After considering pretty much every mac currently avail and not yet avail over the last 3 months,

i finally made my choice and just ordered the following

  • 27-inch iMac
  • 3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
  • 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM
  • 256GB Flash Storage
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
  • Apple Magic Mouse
  • Apple Wireless Keyboard (British)

fingers crossed it will be here next week

Nice way to join these forums by saying that I ordered 27" iMac with I7, 780M, 512GB SSD and 32GB RAM a few weeks ago. Really excited to finally upgrade my early 2011 13" MBP.

Just joined the forums to say that I'm replacing my mid-2007 iMac with a brand spanking new 2013 iMac from the Australian Apple Online Store.

Went with:
-27"
-3.5GHz Quad-core i7
-16GB DDR3 SDRAM
-3TB Fusion Drive
-Nvidia GTX 780M 4GB
-Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (International English) - for the two extra USB ports
-AppleCare

It cost me a bit but it's nearly 7 years since an upgrade so I think it'll be worth it. I ordered it Friday December 13 about 6:30pm. And the estimated order arrival is sitting at 30th December. I'd be pushing it to hope for it to arrive before Christmas I reckon. It'll be nice to bring in the new year with a new iMac anyway.

What I ordered is probably overkill for what I'll use it for but I hope to not have to upgrade for a long time like with my previous 2007 iMac (It's slowed to a halt in terms of practical usage). I hope to use it as a media server, web browsing, gaming, Pixelmator, Spotify and my brother will use it for image and video editing. I'm also hoping to get a Word and Photoshop subscription with the new found power I'll have. (My previous iMac is now dead-slow)

So thanks for reading and I'll be playing the waiting game from now until it comes to my door.

Cheers.

Just got mine.

Finally was able to order the refurb i5 3.4 2013 27 inch model. Can't wait I have external ssd I want to get hooked up to it. Now if I could just find a place to unload my i7 2.3 Mac mini and not pay ebay fees that would be great.

Picked my order up on Wednesday and I am extremely happy with the purchase!!! 27" iMac is pixel perfect with no color issues that I heard about from other buyers on the forum. The machine flies and with the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test I am getting write speeds of 697.1 MB/s and read speeds of 716.3 MB/s on my 512gb SSD :D:D:D

Just ordered my new iMac 21.5" base model plus FD ;) Hope, that they gonna deliver it to me on Christmas days ;).
Actually I was planning to buy model with better GPU but I hope that Iris Pro will be enough just for Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 ;)

2009: iPod Touch, 2010: iPad 1, 2011: Apple TV, 2012: iPad 3 & iPhone 5, 2013: finally iMac :) checklist completed.

Now I'm considering AirPort Express and SuperDrive.

Merry Christmas everyone ^^

First Mac desktop

I have been a PC stalwart since my early teens in the 90s, constantly upgrading to the latest and greatest. I was given the white Macbook in 2007 from my uni as part of my research but to be honest I hated the thing (was too hot, had to go back to Apple three times for repair, never got on with OS so I ran Windows vmWARE)

Fast forward to this summer, and I took the plunge on a 2013 MBA i7, which has to be the best laptop I have owned. I also got on with the OS more than I did before, and I think I may prefer it to Windows 7.

My PC currently is a hulking tower with 2x24" screens. Albeit powerful and runs everything I throw at it, it was rather bulky looking. I then decided to get an iMac 27 with i7 and 780m upgrade with mouse and touchpad, which just arrived today. Sadly have not been able to try it as I am at work!

So excited and cannot wait to try it! What do people recommend as must have apps? I have Office 2011 as I work from home occassionally, but interested to see what apps are out there! Also can you snap windows like you can in Windows 7 or will I need an app?

There's an app - BetterSnapTool

Well my new iMac has landed and i think i have a problem with it

i can here a very faint whirling noise from the fan when running at its lowest speed 1200rpm - always there with a distinct clicking noise

I have another iMac and a MBP in the house and they are both silent

i really don't want to send it back, it was my xmas play thing

I have installed iStat menus to force the fan to run flat out for 10mins on the hope it would quieten down, but its not

I really hoped this iMac would be silent

Thoughts / advice please

Refurb Question

I am considering a refurb 27" iMac. In your experience, are the refurb models throughly checked and issues resolved in the units? My concern on a refurb, would be getting a unit that may still have issues. In reading posts in the forum, I see there have been returns due to screen issues primarily.

I would assume a refurb is checked more throughly than a new issue prior to shipping, I just wanted to see if you feel the refurbs are a sound purchase? Thank you for your time and feedback.

My thoughts on the matter is that a refurb is actually less likely to have issues than a brand new unit (the unit has gone through quality control twice and had any issues the first buyer noticed examined). I purchased a refurb and I'm extremely happy with my purchase.
