I just ordered my first ever too. I'm really nervous. £1000 and i might hate it..

I am a heavy windows PC user, i love to upgrade my PC, and play plenty of games.

I am not getting rid of my PC though, but it's just worrying spending the money on a Mac.

Pulled the trigger on my first iMac this morning, coming from a refurbished 2008 MBP / 2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo.. going to an iMac 27" / 3.4 i7 / 2GB GPU. Stock HD, putting my own RAM in later. Looking forward to selling my Macbook Pro and having one Mac!

I thought I was going to buy a new iMac, but I spontaneously jumped at a 2010 refurb. 27" 2.8 i5-Quad Core, 5750 1GB, and of course some crucial 2x4GB crucial RAM. I think I'll be happy saving a few bucks.

I just purchased my first ever iMac yesterday and am brand new to the forum as well. I am very excited and also pretty nervous to use it since I dont know anything about Macs really.

I ordered a 27" i7 3.4 with 2TB HDD and 2gb video card. Cant wait to get it.

Congratz! Remember when I was waiting for my first iMac, so excited also:D You won't regret it;)

Wow definetly jumping in with both feet for your first mac! You wont be dissapointed, I did the same thing 3 yrs ago and was glad I went for the top iMac at the time.

Just ordered the same spec as you just with a 1TB HDD instead. My current iMac will be going to my cousin who is just as excited about getting his first mac.

My advice to you if you've never really used macs, is to visit a nearby apple store, as they are always doing basic presentations, which will show you the slight differences between the Windows & Mac Operating Systems

Slight? Hardly. The UIs are similar, yes... but the internals are radically different. Then again, knowing the internal differences matters most to programmers.

Ordered a new one last night:

3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5
Track Pad
Wireless Keyboard
I'll pick up more memory and Windows 7 through a 3rd party.

I was able to get $750 from gazelle.com for my old '08 3.06ghz iMac I'm replacing. Also have a 6% corp discount and $450 in Apple gift cards on hand that I acquired using Amex MR points (at a pretty good conversion rate). So when all said and done, the cost is not so bad (~$1200 w/tax).

Says 1 - 3 business days until it ships - I haven't received a confirmation email but the order is showing in my account and there's a pending charge on my Amex card. Can't wait! Now need to get everything ready for migration...

Yeah my goal is to hopefully have this for 3 years without needing a new one. I also ordered 8GB of crucial RAM to go with it.

I was thinking about going to one. But just thought it would be full of computer illiterate people who dont know how to use any tech. I have a couple friends with Macs so I will probably be using them for help.

I am trying to decide if I wanna do boot camp and put on windows 7 or not. I have a tuning program for my car that cant run on Mac OS. I could just keep it on my laptop that im keeping but would be nice to have it on the new Mac. Just dont know if its worth it to put windows on the Mac and I was told you can still get viruses on the windows side as well.

If your just going to use windows to run a few programs, probably would be better to just run Windows7 in virtualisation on your Mac. You can use VMware Fusion, Parallels or VirtualBox which is free.

Ordered this morning:

27" iMac
3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SRAM - 2x2GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5

Was thinking of getting a SSD with it but I think I'll rather get a thunderbolt drive and having it now rather than in 6 weeks.

Already super excited for it :D

Ordered exactly the same, as I've already got 8GB RAM from Crucial.

I've also ordered a Vertex 3 SSD and Seagate 2TB HDD, but after reading that article about HDD upgrade.....I'm a bit worried!

Yeah mine is taking forever to ship out. Seems like everyone else was one day. Mine is 5 days at least now and that's if it ships tomorrow.
