Long time PC user - new 27in
About a month ago now, I bought a new iMac

after a lifetime of being a PC user. I had already bought my wife a 20" iMac in hopes of making things like email, pictures, etc., easier for her (she is not very computer literate). She's had her's for over a year and after playing around with hers, I decided to go with one for myself when my Dell HD finally crashed about a months ago. Heres what I got:
27-inch:
2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
2560 x 1440 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory
1TB (Western Digital) hard drive
AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 512MB
I struggled with whether to upgrade the memory when I bought it, but glad I didn't. I've read on here how easy it is to upgrade to 12GB, which is what I plan to do once I feel I need more memory.
I also bought a Time Capsule which we both use as a backup device. In addition, I bought a fireproof 2TB
ioSafe Hard Drive for periodic "safe" backups (i.e, in case the house burns down). By the way, one of the ioSafe reviews on there is mine.
Since I have a ton of PC software that I'm not keen on tossing out, I also bought Win-7 and installed under Bootcamp (very easy process). Now, simply by holding the Option key on power-up, I can select Win7 or Mac OS. Win-7 runs like lightening on this iMac!
Before I purchased, I struggled over which version to get (i5, i7, how much memory, etc) but think for what I use my computer for, the entry-level i5 will keep me happy for a very long time, especially after I upgrade to 12GB memory. I opted for the entry-level vid card also as I'm not a big gammer, although MS Flight Simulator runs very nicely on this machine (much better than my previous PC for sure) and I've had zero issues streaming videos from Hulu and Netfllix.
I have learned a bit about the iMac by playing with my wife's, but I know that I still have a lot to learn. Glad I found this forum - seems like a great place to discuss and learn about my new iMac.
