Just got to share, Expected date of delivery the 25th, checked before bed last night, no tracking#, got up this morning to find tracking # and it is already on the UPS van for delivery.:D

Wow is all I can say.:D She is beautiful. Arrived before lunch yesterday. It came with Snow Leopard, so with being a total Mac newbie decided to go straight away and download Lion. The download only took about 15 minutes and another approx 25 minutes to install. Now the fun starts. :D

Well I picked my new 27in yesterday. I was going from my trusty 1st gen Intel iMac 20in from 2006. It served me well, but the hard drive died (everything backed up with Time Machine). Got a good deal and the store threw in a trackpad as well.

It really is a stunning machine. i was contemplating waiting for a Mac mini and pairing it with a Dell Ultrasharp. I'm glad I didn't as the look of the iMac really does set it apart. The screen is stunning.

Had some issues though when setting up. I directed it to restore my files and settings from my previous Mac's Leopord via time machine. It did this fine, no problems, very smooth. I was reluctant to do this as I kind if wanted to do a fresh install.

Problem came with the update to 10.6.8. The Wireless connection slowed to a snail pace. I have a 25MB cable broadband. Don't know what happened, but it was crawling at .3 MB download speed! Did a lot of searching via my iPad and it seems to have been a big issue. Had to follow instructions from posters in Apple Support forums to change the router settings to WPA2 AES, change the channels etc etc

Wasn't really working so just said, screw it and I did a clean install of Snow Leopard again to factory settings. Didn't restore from Time Machine.

It worked, broadband speeds all normal after all the updates. I'm going to manually transfer the music, photo's, movies, Doc's etc. Takes time, but I'm actually pleased as I think a fresh install is better rather then importing all my old settings and stuff in one block. Of course I have to download RealPlayer, Flip4Mac, Firefox, Handbrake etc etc all over again, but that's fine.

So just be aware folks, you may have some issues doing a migration from Time Machine at the start, especially like me if your previous Mac was running on a different OS version.

Anyone ordering, get the Trackpad. It's brilliant. Magic Mouse is OK....but I have a Logitech MX that is really awesome.

Though many users do seem to be cheesed off with Lion? Some have gone back to SL and reported it as much slicker. I'll watch with interest.....

I went for the Track pad instead of the mouse. I think I am going to like it.
I could not get the migration assistant to work for me to transfer my email account and ITunes. I think though it was user error.;)
Though setting up the email accounts was very easy, as Lion,s mail program went and got the settings info.
I will transfer my windows iTunes from my external disc. Right now I don't want to fill her up with lots of rubbish from my Windows Laptop.

I am extremely happy with my new 27-inch iMac!

I have the 2006 "white" 13-inch Macbook but I guess it finally fell apart on me. The plastic case started to turn brittle and crack :(

But this new iMac is a huge jump for me and I am glad I did it!

Mine is a 27" 3.4 i7 1tb + 256 SSD It just said prepared for shipment im hoping it ships sometime today.

Just ordered a maxed out 27" i7 :)

Anyone who ordered a 27" with SSD + HDD on or after 7.20.2011 (Lion release date) please let us know if your BTO machine arrives with Lion pre-installed. My understanding is that even on the SSD+ BTO orders, that they have shelves of pre-imaged drives with the OS to grab from and that it might be a matter of a few days after the release if not a week or two before even BTO orders with SSD HDD combos are made with Lion on them. Simply because they won't re-image the SSDs with Lion, but rather go through what they have and then start pulling from the newly imaged batches.

I personally don't want to upgrade from SL to Lion on an SSD, I'd rather wait until I know it will be on there. Congrats on your new iMacs. Thanks for keeping us up to date.

I ordered my first Mac yesterday. I'm so happy! I can't wait to get it and unbox it and install Lion on it. It's an iMac 21,5" baseline model with the Magic Trackpad. When I first ordered it it actually said it would arrive at Tuesday, 26th. But lucky me: now UPS and Apple tell it's arriving a day earlier. Maybe it comes with Lion, but I don't think so. I'm so happy!

Hey can you share the condition of the iMac when you receive it. I'm looking into ordering my first iMac and was considering ordering refurbished to save a few bucks....thanks in advanced.

Ok just got my first refurbished iMac (2011 base 27"). Packed in a plain white box. Everything else seems like it's brand new. Had all the sticky plastic on keyboard and screen. No scratches and no "yellow tint" as some reported on new iMacs. If you had a new and a refurbished iMac next to each other, I bet you couldn't tell them apart. It even smells new!

I would say if you can get a current model refurbished at 15% off (or more)... go for it. You will have 14 days to return it.

Does Fedex usually respect business hours? I selected business on the Apple website when I placed my order. I just got the tracking number for my iMac and it says it will be delivered by 7:00PM Tuesday. Well that doesn't work because my place of employment closes at 5:00. The Fedex guy usually comes around 10 - 12. Should I expect the same with this delivery?

Thanks!

I live in the US.

Well I've been waiting and waiting for a long while now, and today decided to order online.
Went with 27'' Maxed out model. Will be here in about a week i think.

I ordered my new iMac BTO last Tuesday 19th and it has just arrived with Lion preinstalled.
There was no operating system disk in the box and as this is my first mac i am not sure where to look and see if there is a copy of the OS installation disk on my iMac.

Whoa that's just quick. i didn't think it's going to be this quick for your iMac to come with Lion preinstalled. Yeah, it is confusing for some people that Mac now comes without restore DVD. All the restore done via HDD and you just can't do anything about it. Unless you'd like to switch back to SL.

That's why I think Macs that still came with SL restore dvd is more precious. At least when you mess up with HDD and completely format it you'd still have SL hanging around and do the installation as easy as it used to.

Congrats! I ordered my BTO imac, fully loaded, on Wednesday the 20th. Still shows "not yet shipped". When I ordered it estimated a delivery b/w 7/28 and 7/30. We'll see, getting excited though, ready for the status to change! :)

Bought mine from B&H Photo recently:

Apple

8GB (2x4GB) RAM
2TB 7200rpm Hard Drive

GPU 27" LED Backlit 16:9 Widescreen Display
etc, etc..

Added CS5, MS Windows (For Mac 2011), 4TB external Back-up) and about to get the free Lion upgrade..

Very happy with my iMac so far...

I ordered my iMac on the 20th and it arrived today.

1920 x 1080 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory

And the box was even new with Lion desktop images, and there was a new guide called 'Hello' (actually 'Hallo' because I'm Dutch :p). And the keyboard was also new. I was very surprised that Lion came on it.. And I'm very happy with the Mac btw :p

Where you from Belmana ? Ordered my iMac BTO last Monday and it's not here yet :(

I'm getting repetitive strain injury from checking my order status ;)

Just a quick point. I got mine last week and although I have the key to upgrade to Lion, I'm not doing it. Go to the Lion forum and see all the myriad of issues users are having. The latest is widespread freezes on playing Flash video's. The Spotlight indexing is killing some machines as well.

There seems to be a lot of bugs which is maybe understandable, but after reading so many users wishing they could just go back to SL, I'm definitely holding off until the updates come for Lion. 10.7.2 is already in the works I see.

Hold command+r when booting, there is a complete recovery system now with Lion.

I am in Perth Western Australia. The original delivery date from Apple was the 1st of August. My iMac was shipped on Friday and the delivery date was changed to the 29th July.
When I got to work on Monday I checked and found that it was out for delivery and by 9:30am I had my new iMac.
I was rather surprised by how quick it arrived.

This was a tough one for me but I wanted some change anyway...

Finally after plenty of soul searching and endless checking of pros and cons decided to make the leap into the Mac pool (been using PC's pretty much from the start).

Asked from local reseller and they said it takes 3-4 weeks to get the customized iMac here. Apple Store on the other hand said 2-4 business days...

I ordered my iMac July 22nd, 2011 from Apple Store. :D
- 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
- 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
- 1TB Serial ATA Drive+256GB SSD
- AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5
- MAGIC MOUSE+MAGIC TRACKPAD-Z
- APPLE BATTERY CHARGER-INT
- Apple WL Kybd+User's Guide-K
- COUNTRY KIT,IMAC-IEA

Also ordered 16GB of RAM (4x4GB) from Crucial which I should be getting any day now.

Decided to buy the software from app store since they are cheaper there and I really don't need to have them packages.

Apparently my iMac is coming out from Shanghai (to Finland).

I selected overnight delivery, so I'm wondering if it will ship out today and arrive tomorrow....but I'm think more like the 28th (Thursday)

How long does "Prepared for shipment" usually last till you get a tracking number?

Mine went to prepared for shipping to in transit from union city in about an hour!

Yeh, mine just did the same...about 1 hr too. Now its showing it will arrive tomorrow by 3pm. Amazing that I ordered a BTO iMac late Friday night and it was customized and arriving at my door on Wed.
