The "I just ordered/bought/got my new/refurb iMac" thread [merged]

Leaving work in a few minutes to go to my local FedEx to pick up my new iMac. I wasn't home yesterday when they tried to deliver it. I had them hold it at their facility. It better be there!

27" - i7 3.4ghz - ssd+2tb - 2gb 6970

ALL THE UPGRADES!

edit: ok, not all the upgrades. saving the ram upgrade for OWC ;)
 
I see a lot of people have bought the i7 3.4 with 2GB VRAM.

It seems doubtful that many will truly realize the potential of this beast and that the extra horsepower will mostly go to waste. I imagine a lot of these machines will really be pushed very hard.

I just got my new machine (stock i5 iMac 27"). I originally went for the 21.5" but I had to return it twice after screen issues (Apple customer service was really friendly about the whole thing). So after 2 tries with the 21.5" I decided to give the 27" a try and so far so good. I also just doubled my memory from 4GB to 8GB for only $30 via Newegg (a savings of $170 compared to what Apple charges)!

Now I just have to sell my Macbook Pro 13" and my HP Pavilion PC & Monitor to cover the cost of this new machine. :eek:

Of my 2gb VRAM i7 and boy is it fast in I tensive work like video rendering and editing, even my last self- built Very high spec Windows machine used to struggle.

My iMac edits in true real time...just move the slider a little in any clip, and the sound and images move as they would when being played in a completed project.

I guess some high spec iMacs won't use the full capabilities they have, but I up specced mine for just this purpose, and I have been delighted with the performance it provides!
 
I bought the lower model 21.5 last week from Best Buy..

came with SL, upgraded for free to Lion same day.

I've had freezing issues after waking up/playing videos. My screen has also flickered numerous times.

I don't know if it may be defective or if they are generally all like this..

On Friday August 5th, I ordered the $1,499 US 21.5 iMac w/numeric keyboard. I'm going all Mac in my home after 20 years of windows PCs. My other Mac is a 2007 white Macbook. I keep checking the order status obsessively!

hi all, hope you are all well

im in abit of a pickle.. im off to uni in sept to do my masters in architcture. i have had a 2008 mbp since, well 2008.. it has served me well and has been a loyal partner. it still works fine and is as good as it was new ( apart from the battery).

i now wish to upgrade to either a top spec mbp or a top spec imac.

the portability issue is not a biggie as i plan on keeping my current mpb.

i will be using the machine for 3d modeling, image rendering and photoshoping.

im am drawn to the imac as i dont wish to keep a new mbp plugged in constantly for rendering which could take upto a day or more. as i know the battrys are a liitle sh*te and will probs bugger up.

so the questuions are these:
could i make do with a low spec system that would happily work as fast as me when modeling and rendering or do i really need somthing powerfull. i can pick up cheap imacs of ebay with great spek for around a 1000 quid as opposed to a spanker from apple for around 2200...

an insight into the power of these machines will be greatly apricated
 
Ordered my first iMac today, can't wait!

Since 1994 I have been building and using pcs, I finally decided to just jump in and get a mac, my most recent pc got a zap from lightning and after lots of testing most of it is dead...

I went into the apple store and spent a good 45 mins asking questions and messing with things, but sadly they didn't stock the options I wanted, so I came home and ordered up the following system that should be here within the next week and a half.

Imac 27 inch
3.4ghz i7
4mb ram (I will add more later)
amd graphics w/2gb
2tb 7200 + 256 ssd
magictrackpad and keyboard w/ numbers,
apple care and a remote.

I figured if I am gonna jump in go deep, ill most likely run windows on it via bootcamp just so i can still dabble with a few windows only based things I love, but can't wait to start exploring the apple side of things.

Is my new iMac a refurb

OK guys - I just got my very first iMac, got it direct from Apple . . when I went through the setup for the first time it asked for my iTunes account details only the box was pre-filled in with someone else's email address . . . does this mean I;ve taken delivery of a refurb instead of a brand new iMac ??

Have been using PC's even before Windows was around. Always wondered what a Mac would be like. Well, my windows machine crashed for the LAST TIME!

4gigs ram...Ordered 16gigs should arrive 1 day before the iMac
amd/1mg graphics card
256ssd...already have a 1tb and a 3tb external drive for storage
Magic mouse
Keypad

I am a photographer and play only the occasional game so figured the 1gig video memory was enough. I am looking forward to learning the Mac ways! :)

lol I ordered my imac on Aug, 1st and every 3 hours i check my shipping status. (has been in Reno,NV for 4 days)

4 days in one location! Why would that be? I'd be calling Fedex if I were you. What delivery date does the tracking page show? Hope you get it soon!
 
I can't even figure out how to check the status of my order altho to be fair it's only been 24 hrs....hehe

I enter my order number and shipping zipcode at apple.com/orderstatus and I can see the configuration info on right under processing items, but on the left side I can't see the view item info or print invoice, when i do that it asks me to sign in, and apparently there is a glitch because after trying to sign in (same email as I have an apple acct with) it says i can't see this order (agent said it's because its a small business acct and a personal acct and they can't be merged).

Oh well hopefully once it ships I will get a tracking number I can follow online, funny thing is i still don't know what my total cost was as the invoice i got via email was before i made a few changes via phone, whatever it is I can't wait to get my first mac here (altho all the weird Lion comments are scaring me)....

Ordered my iMac on July 29, received it on Aug 9. It came with Lion. Yeah!

BTO, 27", Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, 1TB Drive, Magic Trackpad, and Numeric Wired Keyboard.

Just wanted to take a moment to appreciate my former iMac. 20" Intel Core Duo. Bought in April 2006 and still working for the moment. Oh, sure it's running hot, DVDs take longer to burn, the S.M.A.R.T. status on the drive says "failing", but 5 years and change is a long time in computer years.

New imac came!

Yesturday My 27" imac, 3.4, i7, 4gb ram, 2TB graphics card came in! I was too excited to post yesturday and was up all night with it, being my first mac computer ever! I must say I love it! So far so good, no yellow screen or very minimal. Very fast, Lion is great, cant wait to install Parallels 6 so I can run my sign program and have photoshop and illustrator all open at once ! Im like a fat kid that loves cake!

Hey all

New here as you can tell :)

Well took the big leap yesterday and ordered the 27inch imac with i5 processor 4 gigs of ram and upgraded the gfx card to 2 gig 6970.

Hopefully it will come sooner then expected :p

If any of you ordered in the uk how long did it take for yours to arrive ?

Did it come sooner then the date they gave you ?

Cant wait to get it :)
