I'm buying my iMac this week. None of this ordering online though, I'm too impatient - I'm just getting it directly from the store given that I've got a shop just 10 minutes from my house, I can't wait! :D

My First Mac (I Hope)

I have been a PC user for just about my whole life. My experience with Apple has been limited to iPods and iPhones and the Apple IIe way back in the early 1980's. Well, my Dell laptop has starting showing its age (5 years) and its needs to be replaced. I have decided to go with Apple this time. I wouldn't consider myself a power user by any means, pretty much a novice using a computer for web browsing and light photo editing. I hope to get an iMac 27" on Monday from the Apple Store. I'm going with 2.7 GHz i5 with 4 Gigs of RAM and the 1TB hard drive.

The one question that I do have is about my wireless network. Currently, I have a Cisco wireless router that is a 2.4GHZ 802.11g model that I have had for about 4 years. Is it worth the money to upgrade to the Apple Airport Extreme Base Station in order to take advantage of wireless N or are there better options? As a side note, I live in an apartment, so there are tons of wireless signals from routers and phones here.

Thanks

Hey guys, I've been lurking around for a while on this forum and yesterday i went into town and joined the mac world lol.

I had to carry this 27" sucker back to my car and i was pretty tired out after a mile or so lol. My GF got her self a nice wee Macbook Air, so it was a good day for us both all in. Just need to figure out how everything works now.

All the best

Andy

Just bought myself a 27" iMac, 3.4GHZ i7, 4g RAM (will be upgraded to 16g soon), 1g gfx.

It's a beautifull machine too bad I could only play with it for a day and then had to send it straight up to where I am staying on the mine site!

Can't wait to get my hands on this sucker and have a play with it more (First time Mac Owner) can't wait!

I also have an iPhone 4, iPad 64g now a 27" iMac, slowly getting my :apple: products on :D

Thanks,
Chad.

Just ordered my first iMac yesterday evening. As the power supply unit of my old desktop windows computer just exploded some weeks ago, I've decided to get a Mac for my next desktop computer as well (already have MBP/iPhone/iPad).

27", i7 3.4GHz, 16GB RAM, 2TB+256GB SSD, ATI Radeon HD6970M 2GB

Can't wait to receive it. Unfortunately it might take some weeks, as I need to postpone payment until beginning of October. I'm pretty excited though.

Just ordered:

27 i7 3.4 iMac with SSD only (the dream of a silent computer) & 16gigs of ram from Amazon + the free rebate hp printer, edu discount & 100 bucks free apple card.

***** That was a scary expensive purchase, but boy am I excited.

Upgrading from a 2007 1.8 intel Mac mini 1gig of ram. This will be my first iMac, my first SSD & largest/highest resolution screen I will have ever owned.

Just received my iMac !! Wow !!

Got an SSD plugged on it, not as good as internal but nevertheless pretty fast !!

My order went sooo fast I can't believe it.

Order : Monday 11 PM.
Shipped : Tuesday : 1PM.
Delivered : Wednesday : 5PM.

:)

Just ordered our new iMac last night. 27" 3.4GHz i7 w/ standard options of 4 GB DDR3 RAM and 1 TB HDD. I will most likely upgrade to a SSD, as I already have 3.75 TB waiting to be put into external enclosure that are coming from my homebrew PC.

I built my own gaming PC about three years back. 2.66 GHz i5, 500 GB HDD, nVidia GTX 260, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, etc. A couple months later, I stopped seriously gaming and now play The Sims 3 every so often. Last Thursday, the computer died. Long-story short, the PSU went out, which also blew out three of four RAM slots and a SATA port.

We already planned on getting this iMac in March, when we get our tax returns. But BillMeLater will be even better - six months more of use for the same price (well, it may have dropped in price by then, but eh).

I will most likely end up allocating a 1 TB drive to Windows (it's already there, after all), but we will transfer over all of our pictures and what-not.

Have been away for too long! Three years is too long to be without a Mac! All I've had is my iPhone 3GS. Haha!

Just got my iMac...

I've switched from Windows and was just wondering if there's anything to note in regards to using the thing, learning curves etc when I set it up tomorrow.

Thanks!

I would also STRONGLY recommend getting yourself a 1-2TB external HD and format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and begin backing up your system using Time Machine. Don't scrimp on the HD, you want a good quality drive. Because you are new to OS X here is an Apple Newsletter that advises how to format an external HD.

arrived yesterday with 8gb of ram when i ordered 4!

score!...

Yeah, that happened to me, too. I'm not quite as happy, though, as I have to return the extra RAM I ordered in advance. The only thing that worries me is whether Apple is slipping on quality control. What else did they miss in my refurb?

I am also new to OSX and the Mac platform in general, those links will help a lot, thanks!

As for my order...
27' Core i5
1 TB HD
8GB Ram
Apple Remote Included

(I ended up spending over £1,500 on this baby, I hope it will serve me well, not that I doubt it or anything ;) )

Came a day early, as a matter of fact :D

Edit: Quick, slightly off-topic question, how would one put the Apple logo in signatures and posts? Thanks.

OK It arrived and this is by far the best computer I have even owned, let alone used. I am sooo glad I got the SSD and only an SSD because this computer is absolutely silent. Not a peep, no fans anything! The only sounds you can hear when she starts up are the chime and the superdrive doing something. The SSD is blazing fast. Yeah I contemplated OWC SSDs but seriously it costs more , messes with warranty stuff and the anxiety that comes with that. The 16gigs of ram are on their way.

I just got my brand new iMac! :D it's the base model and I bought it from Best Buy. It didn't come with Lion installed so how would I get that?

Don't know whether they still do it but inquest into the up to date program? It *was* on the Apple website when you went to order one online, I'd double check, however.

I got an extra 1 TB...

We received our iMac last Friday and have been having a blast ever since. Can't believe I spent two years on Windows!

Well, last night, I was looking at the new features in About This Mac. I clicked Storage and... 2 TB?! Wha?! So I open Disk Utility. Sure enough! A 2 TB HDD is inside my iMac!

We ordered the refurb May 2011 iMac 27" with 1 TB HDD, Radeon 6970M, and 4 GB RAM. It is the one going for $1,856 on the refurb list currently. We are pleasantly surprised that we ended up with an extra terabyte for FREE.

Apple continues to impress me! I have had a 3GS since June of the year it was released. Since then, Apple has replaced it FIVE TIMES for free. One was even clearly water damaged, with the red indicator and moisture inside the camera housing. Some people say Apple has a one-time water damage grace replace that they do not officially warrant. Another time was a drop, where the display cable came detached (I believe). It showed no signs of abuse though.

Anyways... Super happy! Now, hopefully the issue it had repaired never comes up! And, hopefully I can get it to recognize my external drives, as it is currently not doing (see my recent topics).

Cheers!
